Ms.Manning Song of Myself Period 2

IIn the 16th century,Mr.de León searched for a fountainacross the sea.

To restore his youth, he ventured—Spain to Florida because our greatest years are our earliest years,

and perhaps the most youthful time,I should sayis when Helios is closest to humanity.

Because during this time,I never know what is to come—and yet I also do.

For every season I am sent off.I am sent off to the same destination,

Where knowledge flourishes,Where the variables exist,

But more than those from a-z,they enter abruptly like Alice, who suddenly wound up in wonderland.

And slowly, somehow,Your personas,Your social links, will be getting leveled up.

To the Hudson! To SoHo! To East River! To the Hudson! And off we go!

With the season coming to a close,we subject each other to facebook.

We may never see each other again,But we’ll remain bosom buddiesAnd keep those summer memories.

IIResiding in the planes above, father of man and creator of all,he who judges all, can I put my faith in him?

We must serve him.We must have faith in him.We must do so becausehe is righteous.

When Satan asked himwhether Job, his most loyal of servants was truly pious,on a whim he put Job to the test,

And Job was to endure

The loss of his wealth,The loss of his children,The loss of his health,

And while his faith was assured,And what was lost was regained,And his wealth increased by twofold,

Job’s trial was based off of his whims.

Were Job to end his suffering,he would be sent to the seventh circle. But he persevered and yet,

He who tested Adam’s first son,and sacrificed the shepherd in his trial, could not see Job’s devotion.

He is the creator of humanity,And yet he treats us like a game.

He created homosexuals,And yet he brands them as sinners,

Because homosexuality is unnatural,And yet there is no choice.

For you cannot be “A lesbian for a day.”

Page 3: Song of Myself

He says we are born without sin,And yet from the day we are born,we either are or aren’t homosexualand such is his will.

For he is wicked. For he is cruel. For he laughs at us up in his perch.

And I don’t want to journey to his kingdom. And I don’t want to believe in such a place.

But I want to believe that there will be a journey and that everything won’t just disappear.
