O listen to the sounding sea That beats on the remorseless shore,O listen! for that sound will be When our wild hearts shall beat no more.
O listen well and listen long! For sitting folded close to me,You could not hear a sweeter song Than that hoarse murmur of the sea.

Janine Dexter has a rich musical background as a pianist, conductor and arranger. She earned her first dollar as a young twelve year-old musician, playing piano at the historic Gold Country bar, Pert’s Place, with a fiddler and old Mr. Pert on his drum set, all under the watchful eye of her Dad who was playing the bones. The formal music education and the more recent music endeavors of Ms. Dexter can be found on the Colla Voce website: www.collavoce.org.

Brian Steckler is the owner of The Stickhouse Studios in Meadow Vista where he is a full time recording producer.
Our concert opens with the World Premiere performance of another of Brian’s choral works. It is an honor to be the performing ensemble of choice for the introduction of this new composition into the choral canon. Commenting on his inspiration for this piece,
he writes, “As I began work on this piece, the themes of sky and sea immediately brought to mind the text of Genesis 1. The first few measures represent the formless void, and then in very few words, and in relatively fast succession, we read of the creation of everything. We are given a moment to reflect on what was created each time we hear the phrase ‘And God saw that it was good.’”
