Procedure Overview

To prevent transmission of infectious agents from isolation rooms to regular patient and other staff through carriers such as stretchers, trolleys, and personnel handling the isolation rooms. To clean the area effectively including floors, walls, windows, tables, and other non medical equipment will be effectively disinfected and cleaned. To keep Isolation Rooms free from dust, stains, odors, trash, and infectious waste. To follow infection control accordingly.

010Thoroughly wash hands using germicidal solution.PLCY0010-01

020Put on disposable latex gloves.Ensure that you are not allergic to gloves being used.

030Place the equipment and materials required for the task onto the housekeeping trolley in an orderly fashion.

4. Mop Stick, Clean Mop Head

5. Toilet Rolls, Paper Towels

6. Two color coded Cleaning Cloth

040Assemble mopping equipment and solutions.Ensure the manufacturers MSDS. Do not endanger the welfare of yourself or others.

050Move to the assigned room.

060Place the Housekeeping trolley and mop buckets adjacent to the entrance of the assigned room.Do not obstruct corridor, fire extinguishers, fire alarms, or fire exits.

Do not disturb the patient(s) or make unnecessary noise.

070Place the Cleaning in Progress safety sign board in front of the assigned room as appropriately.Ensure that the sign board is visible for everyone walking on the corridor.

080Wash your hands outside room or apply hand sanitizing gel and scrub well before entering the room.PLCY0010-01

090Put on your PPE garments, face mask and gloves.PLCY0091-01

100Collect and empty all general waste. Infectious waste should be double bagged in yellow medical waste bags and disposed of in accordance with the appropriate policy.STP HKPG0750-01

110Remove window and shower curtains and send for laundering (during discharge only).

120Clean air-conditioning vents using the appropriate mopping device and spray disinfectant.STP HKPG0030-01

130Damp-dust surfaces of furniture and fixtures and fittings using the germicidal solution and colour coded J cloths.STP HKPG0170-01

140Damp wipe non-medical equipments using the germicidal solution and colour coded J cloths externally only.STP HKPG0170-01

150Rinse and dry wipe immediately using a clean J-cloth if found excessive moisture or solution water on the non-medical equipments.

160Wet wipe all surfaces in and out bed/cot, plastic wrapped mattress covers, pillow covers, over bed table.STP-HKPG0680-01

170Manual clean all marks from hard surfaces.STP HKPG0330-01

180Clean interior glass (during discharge only).STP HKPG0220-01

190Clean all exterior surfaces with germicidal solution. Polish stainless steel surfaces.

200Damp wipe and clean the patient bed.STP HKPG0680-01

210Wash toilet walls, curtain rails.STP HKPG0080-01

220Clean the shower tray or bath tub.STP HKPG0370-01

230Clean the mirror and wash basin.STP HKPG0130-01

240Clean the bidet and commode.STP HKPG0390-01

250Clean the toilet roll holders and paper towel dispenser.STP HKPG0140-01

260Remove U trap beneath sinks of room and toilet and clean draining plug thoroughly with feeding bottle brush (during discharge only).STP HKPG0350-01

270Wet mop entire floor of room and toilet.STP HKPG0260-01

280Rinse off shower curtain and hang it back on the rails well spread out.

290Return all furniture inside room, having wiped off all streaks/ stains from the dried surfaces.

300Replenish with fresh paper towels, toilet rolls, soak and sacks.

310Discard remaining chemical solution and mopping solution. Rinse mop buckets thoroughly.

320Clean and wipe dry all equipment, machines and materials on completion of the task.STP HKPG0410-01

330Remove safety sign board. Make sure the floor is completely dry before removing the Wet Floor sign.

340Return cleaning equipment, machines, and materials to the proper places.

350Remove your disposable latex gloves and wash your hands thoroughly using a germicidal soap solution.PLCY0010-01

360Complete the Check list and obtain the signature of the Area Housekeeping Supervisor.
