The So.Re.Com Joint-IDP Activities
During the months of August and September 2015, the Early Stage Researchers have first enjoyed their well-deserved vacations and then departed for their secondments, spread all over the world, from China to Mexico, from Canada to Brazil, from many EU countries to Argentina. As in the last month, the task of carefully checking the data and meta-data that is going to be imported to the SoReCom “A.S. de Rosa” @-library was continued – by dr. Laura Dryjanska - in view of the new massive data import.
Moreover, a routine of weekly monitoring during the secondment was established with all the Early Stage Researchers in order to discuss the meta-theoretical analysis carried out on previously selected publications.
Following previous formal communication (September 4), on September 15, 2015 a special online meeting was held with the ESRs, Project Leader, Sapienza Supervisory Board and co-tutors at the host abroad institution in order to: • check if everything was fine with the relocation; • detect if the ESRs were ready to proceed with the implementation of the
research work plan according to the planning that they produced two months in advance of their departures and if they had encountered any difficulty in order to find solutions;
• improve the secondments and career development plans with the support of the co-tutors, coherently with the research and individual need in a compatible and realistic way to respect individual and project timeline for deliverables and milestones (as in the Annex I to the EC contract).
Following the Skype meetings, both the fellows and the co-tutors at the host institutions abroad have been invited to send their feedbacks in written format. Weekly online meetings were held with the ESRs and dr. Laura Dryjanska each Monday. The ESRs have assisted the supervision of six master students who are contributing to the development of the “A.S. de Rosa” @-Library by collaborating to the unified research program on the meta-theoretical analysis for their master thesis supported by the extra-EU Sapienza mobility scholarships in Argentina, Brazil and Canada.

Approaches in Large Classes, Monday, September 28, 2015, Vanier Hall, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ottawa. Keynote speaker: Prof. Colin Montpetit. Attended with Alessandro Reda and Martina Latini.
Summary: Without losing the summative assessment of individual performance on exams, collaborative exams were introduced in large-enrolment courses. Two-stage exams are those in which students first write an exam individually, followed immediately by a second stage in which they write the same, or similar, exam as part of a small group. During the group part students receive immediate feedback on their answers from their group classmates and are exposed to alternative ways of thinking to solve problems.

2015 IAREP – SABE - ICABEEP JOINT CONFERENCE
"PSYCHOLOGY and ECONOMICS: together for a better life”
September 3-6, 2015 The Project Leader prof. Annamaria Silvana de Rosa and the ESR Monica Panzaru have attended the 2015 IAREP – SABE – ICABEEP Joint Conference “Psychology and Economics: Together for a better life” that took place in Sibiu, Romania on September 3-6, 2015. They had two presentations, including the dissemination of preliminary research results related to the SoReCom Joint-IDP project on Social Representations of/and Economics. Besides the great opportunity to know and interact with the leading scientists in the field of Economic Psychology both from the American Association (SABE) and the European one (IAREP), the conference was also an occasion to meet again Dr. Alina Pop, an alumnus of the International/Joint PhD in Social Representations and Communication, already known during her active participation as invited lecturer during the 2015 Spring Session of the SoReCom Joint-IDP International Lab Meeting. The participants enjoyed the trip to the Astra Museum of Folkloric Traditional Civilization that presented traditional Romanian houses.

PORESI Project Submission 2015 MSCA-IF Application
September 9, 2015 Following the initial effort last year and its positive evaluation (although it was not selected for funding), on September 9, 2015 Prof. Annamaria Silvana de Rosa have submitted the PORESI Project dedicated to the polemical social representations, to be developed – in case of approval - jointly with Natalia Cojocaru (Associate Professor, PhD in Psychology Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences State University of Moldova) together with other doctoral trainees at the European/International Joint PhD in Social Representations and Communication Research Centre and Multimedia Lab.
The PORESI project focus on the following questions.: a) How various social objects of knowledge contribute to the genesis of hegemonic,
emancipated and polemic representations in three domains: politics and economy, health, work and organizational contexts;
b) how these representations are managed at the societal and intergroup levels in various socio-ideological contexts;
c) what is their dynamics in the society which influences the transformation of a kind of representation into another. In particular:
• c.1. How does the PR turn, if it does, into a hegemonic representation? • c2. If the transformation occurs, what are the socio-ideological conditions and what is
the role played by the social movements in the new communicative scenario of the web 2.0?
• c.3. What happens with the PR, which does not evolve into a hegemonic one and for how long and under what conditions the PR remain polemic?
• c.4. How are the controversial topics and PR negotiated at the societal and intergroup level?
Dr. Natalia Cojocaru will spend three weeks in November 2015 in the European/International Joint PhD in Social Representations and Communication Research Centre and Multimedia Lab, supported by a EASP grant for post-doc visiting scholars.

COST Action IS2015 Summer School "Confronting Collective Historical Memory and Emotion”
Split, Croatia, 7-12 September 2015 In this summer school for Ph.D. level students, experts in the field of social psychology and history came together to teach interactive workshops about three aspects of how history is preserved, evaluated, altered and forgotten in collective memory. After a series of initial addresses in which the teachers each present their research and perspective, and a session in which the different theories and methods of psychologists and historians are discussed, the three groups divided and engaged in discussion of readings provided before the summer school to the participants of the COST Action Social psychological dynamics of historical representations in the enlarged European Union. Students collaborated in planning literature or research projects, and presented their proposals at the end of the summer school. Among organizers there was Prof. Giovanna Leone from the Sapienza Supervisory Board. Among the participants, the SoReCom Joint-IDP ESR Ana Tomicic attended the event during the first week of her secondment planned at Geneva University from September 1 to November 30 2015.

New Book
Understanding Emotion in Chinese Culture
by Louise Sundararajan
Series: International and Cultural Psychology
Publisher: Springer
Published in: 2015
▶ The book brings to light profound insight of the Chinese about the adaptive and creative
functions of emotions
▶ It offers an in-depth understanding beyond stereotypes in its analysis of the thinking and
feeling of the Chinese people
▶ The first systematic study of Chinese emotions from a theoretical framework that seeks to
interrogate mainstream psychological theories and research on emotions
This mind-opening take on indigenous psychology presents a multi-level analysis of culture to
frame the differences between Chinese and Western cognitive and emotive styles. Eastern
and Western cultures are seen here as mirror images in terms of rationality, relational
thinking, and symmetry or harmony. Examples from the philosophical texts of Confucianism,
Daoism, Buddhism, and classical poetry illustrate constructs of shading and nuancing
emotions in contrast to discrete emotions and emotion regulation commonly associated with
traditional psychology. The resulting text offers readers bold new understandings of emotion-
based states both familiar (intimacy, solitude) and unfamiliar (resonance, being spoiled
rotten), as well as larger concepts of freedom, creativity, and love.
