I. COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course offers fundamental concepts, theories and principles of economics which will able the student to rationalize and evaluate the utilization of individual’s and economy’s resources. In addition, economic policies and problems especially land/agrarian reform and taxation, vis-à-vis issues, are given emphasis in this study. This gives student opportunities to be exposed to current economic news, both local and global that will help him/her appreciate and realize the application of the learned principles and theories of Economics. In the end, this course will equip the student with knowledge, skills and values in making wise personal decisions and in understanding other people and sectors, that could contribute positively to the economy as a whole.

III. FINAL PRODUCT

The goal is to produce and present a final paper (individual/group of three) focusing on Philippine economic situation (economic indicators, economic problems and others)/ Philippine land and agrarian reform programs/Philippine taxation.

You will do research work preferably field research to get primary data from the different members of the society regarding the basic issues of the topics discussed.

You will analyze social and economic issues, including that of the land reform and taxation and how they affect the peoples’ daily lives applying the basic theories and principles learned.

Microeconomics: Demand & Supply Learn how the market works by understanding

the forces of demand and supply through the concepts of quantity demanded and quantity supplied; demand schedule and supply schedule; demand curve and supply curve.

Use these concepts in understanding the Law of demand, Law of diminishing marginal utility, Income effect and Substitution effect and Law of supply.

VI. COURSE POLICIES

A. The use of mobile phones and other electronic gadgets is prohibited during class hours unless a special permission to do so is granted.B. Students are allowed seven (7) absences inclusive of tardiness for a 1½ hour-class; four (4) absences inclusive of tardiness for a three

hour-class; and All absences thereafter shall mean excessive absences which are equivalent to a grade of 0.0.C. Two tardiness equals one absence rule is applied. Tardiness is defined as fifteen minutes of any class meeting time. D. Assignment must be submitted before the class begins; unless otherwise indicated.E. Make-up quizzes are given at anytime during the period (prelim, midterm and final). Students who missed any quizzes should see the

subject teacher during his/her consultation hours.F. Extra credit will be given to students who will have perfect attendance for the whole semester and who is always punctual in the class. G. Uphold academic honesty. Plagiarism and cheating are prohibited. This could merit a grade of 0.0.H. Special major exams are scheduled one week after the administration of the major exams. I. Concerns (grades, activities, performances, etc) must be discussed properly with the subject teacher.
