New JBL CWT128 offers full 160° coverage

JBL Professional is ship-ping its CWT Crossfired Waveguide Technology loudspeaker, an all-new

design that delivers a full 160 degree wide-angle coverage pattern.

A typical challenge of many sound re-inforcement applications is to provide high quality, full bandwidth sound evenly dispersed across a coverage area greater than 100 degrees. This is often addressed by mounting two speaker systems splayed to achieve wider horizontal coverage.

This approach produces interference where the coverage patterns overlap (see box), resulting in uneven sound fields and compromised intelligibility. JBL engineers created an innovative solution to this problem: the CWT128 Dual 8” 2-Way Loudspeaker System featuring CWT Crossfired Waveguide Technology.

The CWT’s compact size and footprint takes up about a third of the footprint of two speakers arranged side by side. Because one speaker can be used in-

stead of two, installation costs can be lowered by reducing the number of cabinets, cabling, man hours and other costs.

The CWT128 is specifically designed to work in a variety of performance spaces including performing arts fa-

cilities, houses of worship, auditoriums, lecture halls, and conference facilities. For larger, public spaces, applications include transportation facilities, theme parks and sports facilities.

BSS BLU-Link card for Si platform

The range of option cards for the Si Se-ries consoles has expanded with the re-lease of new options cards from Sound-craft, BSS Audio and Riedel.

BSS Audio’s BLU-Si Blu link card enables Soundcraft Si Expression, Si Perform-

er and Si Compact consoles to connect to other HARMAN BLU-Link compatible devices, including the dbx PMC16 Personal Monitor Controller, BSS’s Soundweb London platform, and various Crown amplifier models.

The BLU-Si card provides a 32 x 32-channel interface over a standard Cat 5e cable.

Soundcraft has added the Multi Digital and Dante Cards to its offering. The Multi Digital Card has USB and FireWire interfaces for connection to a Mac or Windows computer for recording and playback, as well as ADAT optical con-nections and is capable of 32x inputs and 32 outputs simultaneously.

The Dante Card provides Primary and Secondary ports for Audinate’s pro-tocol.

Riedel manufacture an in-terface card for connect-ing an Si console to their RockNet audio distribution platform.

The new cards join CobraNet, Aviom, AES and MADI options already available from Soundcraft.

Providing even more comprehensive and cost-effective audio solutions HAR-MAN’s JBL Commercial is expanding its lineup with the introduction of five

mixer/amplifiers that incorporate Crown’s exclusive DriveCore™ amplifier technology for improved per-formance, lower cost, reduced size and weight and efficient operation.

The DriveCore chip com-bines the amplifier driver stage into the power output stage along with additional audio-signal functions, yet is about the size of a postage stamp. It enables signifi-cantly reduced size and weight – all mixer/amps are just 1U rack space high and most models are only a half-rack wide.

All models can drive 8 ohm and 4 ohm loads and can be used with 70V and 100V distributed audio systems without the need for a separate transformer.

The CSMA mixer/amps offer unmatched ease of use, with a clean, front panel featuring only volume con-trols for each channel, master volume adjustment, adjustable bass and treble controls and a power

switch. All the volume controls are surrounded by an illuminated ring, making them easy to see and operate in dark-ened environments.

In addition to balanced mic/line inputs, unbal-

anced RCA inputs and speaker connections, all units include RJ45 connectors for use with JBL CSR-V in-wall volume controls.

Crown DriveCore Install amplifiers ship - the new standard for installed sound

Crown Audio’s new DriveCore Install (DCi) Series power ampli-fiers are shipping in

the UK.

Successor to the company’s ac-claimed CTs Series, the new DCi stereo and multichannel amplifi-ers incorporate a host of improve-ments including HARMAN’s exclu-sive DriveCore™ technology to set new standards in reliability, sound quality, flexibility and efficiency.

At the heart of the DCi Series is the proprietary DriveCore ampli-fier IC chip, which combines the amplifier driver stage into the power output stage along with additional audio-signal functions, yet is about the size of a postage stamp, dramatically reducing size

and power consumption require-ments.

The DCi Series comprises of twelve models ranging from 300 watts to 600 watts (into 4 and 8 ohms and 70Vrms and 100Vrms) with 2, 4 or 8 channels per ampli-fier.

The DCi Network models include network monitoring and control over Ethernet, BLU-Link digital

audio transport, GPIO and digital signal processing. DCi Analogue amplifiers integrate into control and monitoring systems over eth-ernet.

HARMAN introduces Architectural Media Systems

Sound Technology Ltd is providing additional

sales and support services for installed audio clients with the promotion of Joe East to the position of Business

Development Manager where he will work alongside the technical Project Team.

The Project Team was set-up four years ago to provide pre and post sale support for customers and clients involved in medium to large scale audio projects.

The team provides a local base of technical expertise and system design skills to work with customers and consultants on HARMAN audio system solutions for installation projects.

In addition, Hugo Burnard has joined the technical project team itself, working as project engineer alongside Senior Project Engineer Ben Todd and Product Specialist Danny Kyte.

Sound Technology offers free BSS Soundweb training for our customers. We run two courses - Introduction to Soundweb

Designed for venues that would typically use larger point-and-shoot speakers, JBL’s

CBT70J loudspeakers incorporate technical advancements that al-lows them to vastly outperform competitive systems, with a level of user-friendliness that virtually eliminates the challenges of de-livering great sound.

The CBT70J models have the ability handle both speech and

full range, high-power music ap-plications with spectacular levels of fidelity while the asymmetric horizontal coverage assures even coverage from front to back.

The CBT series is particularly suited to tackling difficult acous-tic spaces and as audio installers and AV integrators - who have been using the range with great success to solve the typically complex challenges presented in houses of worship - have found.
