for a friend.” That’s why we sing what a friend we have in Jesus. When he died the earth did quake and the rocks split. Nobody else died like him. His body was buried in Joseph’s new tomb. His spirit and soul went into hell to serve our sentence. The good news is that He did not stay there. After three days and nights, he was res- urrected from the dead. That’s why we celebrate Easter.

Jesus came to restore the kingdom of God on earth. The resurrection is the sign, indication, and validation that the kingdom of God is come to us. Because of the resurrection we can now make a kingdom connection. Make sure that He has risen in your life and you have made a kingdom connec- tion.

“For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” Matthew 12:40

It is during this month that we celebrate the resurrection of our Christ. However, there are many who celebrate Easter but are ignorant of the resur- rection. Eggs and rabbits have nothing to do with the resurrec- tion. The resurrection is king- dom validation that Jesus is Lord

of the kingdom of God. The scripture says, “And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.” It further says, “And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.”

Jesus is the first fruit of resur- rection. He was not the first to be raised from the dead. He raised others from the dead and they all died again. However, to be resurrected from the dead is to die no more. We celebrate because we have a living savior.

Jesus was born a virgin birth. He lived a virtuous life. He died a vicarious death. They did not kill him. He voluntarily gave up His life. “Greater love hath no man than this to give up His life

Mission of NLWM

NLWM was established to teach the uncompromising Word of God and to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our goal is to minister by precept and example, teaching the body of Christ to walk in victory and to adapt a lifestyle that is irreproachable.

On Wednesday, March 25th, NLWM kicked off a week of celebration to commemorate the 16th church anniversary. The kickoff began with Joint Bible Study. The theme for the evening was, “A Time to Wor- ship” taken from the scripture text Ecclesiastes 3:13. Associate Minister Tracy Williams guided us through the evening by serv- ing as Master of Ceremonies.

The Wednesday night cele- bration included: music, dance, mime, poetry and the Word.

Associate Ministers Steve Brown (top– L), Shelton Richardson (Top-R), Lawanda Barnes (Below -L) and Michael Mims (Below-R) present the Word for the Joint Bible Study.

CHECK MATE, UNO, DOMINO, Left Hand, Red; Right Foot, Blue….sounds familiar? The NLWM 16 th

Church Anniversary committee sponsored “A Time to Play” Game Night Thursday, March 26th in the Family Life Cen- ter. The atmosphere was noisy and festive with members and non-members enjoying them- selves. With more than twenty game tables available, the com- mittee made sure there were games for all ages.

The youth really enjoyed playing volleyball as well as

other games such as a comput- erized dance game, Connect Four, Memory, Limbo, Uno, and many others. Adults had the opportunity to show off their analytical skills with Word Search, Spades, Dominoes, Chess, Checkers and Catch Phrase just to name a few.

The concession stand was a popular place too. Hot dogs, chili dogs, chili pies, drinks, candy, cakes and chips were available; and I admit the hot dogs were off the chain!

On behalf of the Anniver- sary Committee, we thank all the ministries for assisting in

many ways. We could not have made it a success without YOU! Thanks again!

Saturday, March 28th was a day of good food, fellowship and games. We started the day with prayer at 9:00a.m. followed by the 2nd Annual Helps Ministry Tailgate at 10:00a.m. Eight tailgating booths filled the Family Life Center parking lot where vari- ous helps ministries joined together to prepare some of the delicious dishes. This year’s winners of the food con- test were as follows: Best side dish– 50 and Over Ministry;

Best Meat-Marriage Ministry; Best Desserts-Music Ministry; Best Overall– 50 and Over Ministry.

At 1:00p.m. the Chil- dren of Faith Basketball Game began. Children aged 6-12 battled for a win. It was the Red team, coached by Lawanda Barnes, who took home the victory over the White Team, coached by Ray “Homey” Saulsberry, in overtime.

The Men of Faith Basketball Game followed the children’s game and provided a very close and entertaining

show for all in attendance. This year’s game included teen- agers as well as adult men. The White Team, coached by Dr. Larry Proctor, took home the victory over the Red Team, coached by Adrian Rogers, in overtime. Steve Brown of the White Team was the lead scorer with 23 points followed by Keith, “Old School” Kelly of the Red Team with 20 points.

When the basketball games ended the volleyball net went up and the co-ed Faith in Action Volleyball games began.

New Living Word Minis- tries’ (NLWM) 16-year anni- versary celebration came to a close on Sunday, March 29, 2009. The day’s celebration began with prayer, leadership and Sunday School. The Sun- day School messages were presented by Associate Minis- ter’s Kia Baldwin-Richardson, Rixie Thompson, James Hardy and Daryl Kennedy. The day’s celebration included a chronicle of the church history, reflec- tions, a time capsule burial, poem, spoken word, and din- ner. It was truly an awesome day to be remembered.

To get things started, Kia Baldwin-Richardson chronicled the church history, with an emphasis on Pastor Baldwin’s vision to purpose from the inception of NLWM to the

present day. Afterwards, sev- eral “charter members,” includ- ing Charlie and Valerie Hudson, Jeff and Gloria Miller and Ros- coe and Genevolyn Rollins followed by long-time members Andre and Pam Stringfellow remarked on their journey’s from the beginning of their experiences at NLWM to the present day, with an emphasis on their spiritual, personal, and financial growth as a result of receiving good instruction, increased insight, and a zeal to be obedient.

Next, a time capsule with artifacts from the beginning of NLWM to the present day was presented by Deborah Robin- son then buried on the church grounds by associate ministers, James Hardy and Tracy Wil- liams and Keith Kelly. The time capsule will be used to measure how far we have come 10 years from now because growth is

absolutely expected. After- wards, Pastor Baldwin brought a word on The Kingdom Church. And, just moments before he closed the sermon out, he opened up his pulpit to Associate Minister Robbie Wil- liams. Mrs. Williams came with a slam dunk, original poem titled “Why Do We Cele- brate?” Her poetic flow was like a dash of hot sauce on an already hot main course. It was the perfect complement.

And finally, to top off our festivities, dinner was served in the Family Life Center. Every- one was invited to partake of a wonderful spread that included, chicken and dressing, green beans, greens, macaroni and cheese, rolls, cake, and punch. The celebration brought inspi- ration and renewed dedication to the vision of our beloved pastor. And, our minds, bodies, and spirit left ready to partici- pate in what is yet to come.

The Usher Ministry has been very busy serving our church, members and commu- nity. We visited the hospital and Alpine Nursing Home in Ruston. To show our love and appreciation for the residents, we showered the Alpine resi- dents with Valentine good- ies. Pastor Baldwin and Mrs. Baldwin are always busy making sure everything and everyone is taken care of; therefore, the Usher Ministry showed appre- ciation on Valentine’s Day and

we blessed them with a gift certificate to Rabbs Steak House. They also reported that they are enjoying their complimentary year long lunches (gift from Usher Minis- try) at Sweet Peas Restaurant.

Thanks to all the Ushers who participated in the 16 th

Church Anniversary. The tail- gate was another success! We had p lenty of GOOD food. Special thanks to Andre’ Stringfellow and Gloria Miller for organizing and Barbara Jewitt for creating our sign.

As the summer ap- proaches, Brother Stringfellow and Deborah Robinson are

finalizing our plans for a trip to Six Flags for the Ushers. The purpose of this trip is to cele- brate our youth and their ac- complishments in school and at church. The cost of the trip is $56 for Ushers and $66 for non-ushers. This price includes round-trip transportation, one meal and entrance ticket. The NLWM Ushers, their children and spouses have first choice; however, the fees must be paid by April 30th. All money should be paid to Ernestine Jordan, and all questions should be directed to Deborah Robin- son.

YOUTH MINISTRY

on March 8, 2009 with a dodge ball tournament . Five teams competed in the dodge ball tournament. The team cap- tains were as follows: Edward Eugene, Christopher Osborne, Kevin Jackson, Joe Evans, and Derrick Fields. In the end, Edward Eugene’s team came out on top with Christopher Osborne’s team next in line. The event was fun for all the youth who came out both from

NLWM and the community.

The youth were on task and on point while ushering on the 3rd Sunday. The youth also sponsored a tailgate booth for the anniversary. The Youth definitely turned up the praise by ministering through mime, praise dancing, singing and step- ping during the anniversary. Great Job youth. Keep setting the bar with enthusiasm!
