I hope you had a very enjoyable Easter break and we are all looking forward to another fantastic term at our wonderful school. A big thank you to the students, their families and our staff who supported our school on Tuesday at the Anzac Day March. We had approximately 120 students march and participate as part of the South Grafton community at the formal ceremony held at the South Grafton Cenotaph. This was by far the largest representation of any of the schools who attended the ceremony. The ceremony was very moving and our students were very respectful and represented our school in an excellent manner. Our two leaders Isaac and Lucy presented a wreath on behalf of our school. This year we also provided two of our marquees so our students were able to sit in comfort out of the sun while the ceremony was being held. Congratulations to Andrea Thomson who competed at the State PSSA Swimming carnival last term in Sydney. Andrea swam very well finishing 29th overall in the state, which is a great performance. Good luck to Rahni McGrath who is representing North Coast at the State Tennis PSSA carnival next week. Education for your child is important and regular attendance at school is essential for your child to achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options. NSW public schools work in partnership with parents to encourage and support regular attendance of children and young people. When your child attends school every day, learning becomes easier and your child will build and maintain friendships with other children. What are my legal responsibilities? Education in New South Wales is compulsory for all children between the ages of six years and below the minimum school leaving age. The Education Act 1990 requires that parents ensure their children of compulsory school age are enrolled at, and regularly attend school, or, are registered with the Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards for homeschooling. Once enrolled, children are required to attend school each day it is open for students. The importance of arriving on time Arriving at school and class on time:

Ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day

Helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine

Give students time to greet their friends before class

Reduces classroom disruption Lateness is recorded as a partial absence and must be explained by parents. Any questions you have regarding attendance should be referred to Mr Jones.

Modern ways to teach money skills with the CommBank Youth appThrough the School Banking program, CommBank has been offering engaging ways for Australian children to learn the value of saving and smart money management since 1931. In 2017, the introduction of the CommBank Youth app, an innovative digital banking tool, will help enhance the School Banking program.

With the CommBank Youth app, your child can:• Check the balance of their Youthsaver account.• View School Banking deposits in their transaction history.• Track the number of Dollarmites tokens they collect.• Set up savings goals and monitor their progress.• Create a list of chores they can do to earn pocket money.

Explore more about the CommBank Youth app, and how to get your child started, by visiting commbank.com.au/schoolbanking

Learning the value of digital moneyDid you know that approximately one in five parents are trying to teach their children about cashless transactions and digital money management? CommBank research shows parents are alternating between cash and online bank transfers when giving their children pocket money, and actively demonstrating ‘tap and go’, online banking, mobile applications and how ATMs work.
