AREA ADMINISTRATOR Dear Members and friends, Monthly Meetings 2nd Thursday of the month, 8:00pm. Since last writing for this column, I have spent some hours at the local cemetery, looking for tombstones Workshop Nights of some of our early settlers. You could say I am 4th Wednesday of the month, 7:30pm doing the ground work/walk for a proposed Cemetery Walk in conjunction with Warrnambool's Research Library 150th celebrations. The library is open at various times I came across a tombstone (a family reunion was (Mon to Sun) when staffed by held a few years ago, and a book written) and volunteers of the group. Ring Flagstaff thought "there's one we could use". Back at Flagstaff Hill on (055) 64 7841 between 9:30am & Hill, I checked the microfilm of the cemetery records, 4:30pm Mon to Fri to check if the looking for the grave number and row. To my library is open. amazement this death was not included on the list of burials for the year 1865. Newsletter edited & produced by Maybe this could be the reason why we cannot find Lorraine Smith. Photocopying courtesy records of burials for some of our enquirers. of Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum. Sometime next year our group should check this typed list against the originals for any other possible omissions. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• OPEN DAY Our Open Day, held last month, was attended by a small but very interested group of people who gave us very positive feedback on the day. Our books sold quite well, as did the refreshments in the kitchen. Ian Morden from Mapworks did very well with the sale of his maps and has expressed an interest in being involved in other functions like this that we may put on in the future. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the event a success. All were agreed that it was worth the effort and discussions will be held re another one next year.
