Have you heard? Earlier this year my husband and I packed up and fulfilled a lifelong dream: to live abroad—Italy to be exact! It’s been a fun, fascinating and fulfilling experience to say the very least.

It’s also been interesting to see how our adopted Southern sensibilities translate into an entirely new culture. From our manners to our dinner party etiquette, it’s clear that even when you

temporarily leave the South, the lessons that you’ve learned stick with you.

Aside from being insanely excited to host a Thanksgiving Dinner for our new Italian friends, I’m also dying to see the episode of House Hunters International that my husband and I filmed a few months back. I hear it will air sometime in September or October, so keep an eye out for our silly mugs on your television.

Oh, and if you ever doubt the yum-factor of the recipes that appear in our pages, think again! I’ve tested Cara and Phoebe’s Italian-meets-comfort-food Parpadelle with Spicy Italian Sausage, Broccoli Rabe, and Sun-dried Tomato Pesto recipe and it is delizioso!

The 5 UnsUng heroesof fall VegeTables

Summer is a tough act to follow as far as vegetables are concerned. But

after meal upon meal of caprese salad, zucchini carpaccio, and corn

salsa, sometimes as cooks, we have to say: enough already! Give us pasta, hearty sauces, and stews—and give us some sturdy fall vegetables that

can stand up to a little heat.

Here we’re celebrating our five favorite unsung heroes of the fall

harvest with recipes that will let you enjoy these veggies at their peak.

We’ll also give you cooking tips for those lesser-known members of our

list like, um, celeriac.

We love Washington, D.C. for its great mix of Northern and Southern style — and we love Emily Wall, the blogger behind DC Here Now for capturing the

eclectic style of the city’s residents.

We were so inspired by Emily’s photos that we asked

Birmingham-based home decor store and online boutique Moxii to put together three bedrooms based on some of our favorite

shots from DC Here Now. Were they up for the challenge?

You better believe it!
