Who We Are

Southern LED Solutions are a green energy specialist, who provide Domestic, Commercial & Industrial LED lighting products, to suit any application and environment.

With over 30 years combined experience in the electrical industry, we utilise our vast knowledge and subject matter expertise, to deliver the highest quality products and service to our clients.

Our aim is to completely understand our clients requirements, and deliver suitable, high quality products, which result in maximum cost and energy savings being achieved, across any given installation.

SOLAS is our own brand, and we supply cutting edge technology, at extremely competitive prices, placing a strong emphasis on building lasting customer relationships, and supplying energy efficient and environmentally friendly solutions to enhance any electrical installation.

Our ‘Made to Order’ service, allows us to provide LED lighting solutions, outside our mainstream range, for any job specification and project, giving us the ‘One stop shop’ capability, to fulfill our customers lighting project requirements.

LED lighting is an exciting industry, and as a company we are buoyed by the opportunity to work with clients from varying backgrounds, and help them achieve their goals in making the switch. To date we have partnered with domestic households, schools, retail outlets and manufacturing companies, just to name a few.

At Southern LED Solutions, we can supply our products Australia wide, and take care of the complete installation in SA, VIC and NT, whether it be a ‘retro-fit’ scenario or new application. Alternatively, we can work in with our clients preferred contractors, regarding installation, to ensure the desired outcome is achieved.

We hold public and product liability insurance up to AUD $20,000,000, covering all of our lighting products, which gives peace of mind to all clients we work with.

Why Make The Switch?

Reduced power consumption…

Switching to LED lighting heavily reduces overall power consumption, in comparison to common forms of lighting, such as metalhalide, halogen and fluorescent. An example of this, is a standard High Bay metal halide globe, rated at 400W, compared to anLED High Bay, rated at 150W. The LED light not only provides a much higher quality light output, but also brings with it significantly reduced power consumption (250W per fitting).

Reduced operating costs…

Substantial cost savings go hand in hand with reduced power consumption, which is another huge plus of making the switch to LED. As an example, by replacing 100 x 400W metal halide High Bay lights, with 150W LED High Bays, a business running their lights 10 hours per day / 7 days a week, would save approximately $21,000.00 per annum, applying an industry average power rate of $0.25 kW/h.

Reduced ongoing maintenance costs…

A key driver for making the switch to LED lighting, is the reduced ongoing maintenance costs they bring with them. The lifespan of LED lights can be anywhere from 3 -10x time longer than other common light sources, and especially in commercial applications, with large quantities of light fittings, this a huge advantage. An example of this, is the comparison of LED tube lights to standard fluorescent lights, with their lifespan being approximately 5x longer. Reducing maintenance requirements also results in less disruption to business, bringing about even greater savings.

Environmentally friendly…

Reducing power consumption also reduces carbon emissions, by switching to LED the carbon footprint of any household or business can be significantly reduced, which is also a key benefit of making the switch to LED.

Within the ever growing LED lighting market, there are a varying range of products available to the consumer, and from a qualityperspective, there can be vast differences from product to product. At Southern LED Solutions we ensure, by working directly with our manufacturer, that all the products we supply are of the highest quality, from the driver to the LED chip, which is supported by excellent warranty terms. We may not always be able to offer the cheapest product on the market, but we believe that what we supply will eliminate the need for call backs, and unnecessary maintenance work, which ultimately makes a cheaper product a more expensive one. To date, we have a less than 1% return/defect rate on all the products we have supplied, something we areextremely proud of as a supplier.

We supply our own brand of products, SOLAS, and we do not attach our brand to any product which we believe is sub-par in the quality stakes. At Southern LED Solutions we are not just a company of salesman, trying to ride the wave of the ‘next big thing’. We believe in this industry and the products we supply, and don’t recommend anything to our customers which we don’t believe will be beneficial for them, in terms of cost savings and reduced energy consumption. Our in depth and hands on experience in the Electrical Industry, totaling over 30 years combined, allows us to advise and recommend solutions which we know first hand will achieve the results our clients desire.

Ongoing Support…

From our experience, a key deterrent for not switching to LED lighting, is the lack of education provided about what a particular product should deliver, and after sales support. Southern LED Solutions prides itself on ensuring that all our clients receive the necessary information required ,to make a calculated decision when switching to an LED lighting environment. We also provide in-house warranties on all our SOLAS products, giving peace of mind that what we supply will deliver what it’s meant to, and that our clients call will always be answered regarding any queries, even after warranty periods are complete.

LED Lighting Technology

LED technology is a fast moving industry, and at Southern LED Solutions, we use only the most advanced LED chip technology on

the market in our products.

As an example, San’an, who produce the LED chips used in our downlights, tube lights, panel lights and shoplights, are regarded

as a “Leading LED Enterprise” and invest heavily in R&D to continually provide the latest cutting edge technology to the market.

Philips, regarded as a world leader in the phosphors industry, produce the LUXEON M LED chips used in our High Bay light fittings, which deliver high flux density with tight correlated colour temperature control. These LED’s are perfect for indoor and outdoorcommercial and industrial applications, which are driven towards high efficiency and low cost.

Southern LED Solutions continually works closely with it’s manufacturer, to deliver and produce the highest quality products at the right price, ensuring clients achieve maximum benefit from switching to LED lighting.

We are also highly motivated to deliver products to the market which our clients desire. In order to do this, we constantly seekfeedback from our clients regarding products they want to see available. By doing this, we not only build strong client relationships, but also ensure that the products we supply meet and exceed client expectations.

All our LED lighting products are SAA certified where applicable, and approved to be sold within Australia & New Zealand, along with the rest of the world. We also provide a minimum 3 year warranty on all of our products from time of purchase, and are always on hand to answer any of our clients general and technical queries.

This potential savings example is based on the lights themselves, and doesn’t take in to account additional savings which can beachieved as a result of switching to LED lighting, such as lower operating costs for air-conditioning. At Southern LED Solutions we understand that LED lighting changeovers can be a significant investment, so it’s important to see

how that investment will work for you financially. The below example outlines the potential return on investment (ROI) for a commercial LED lighting solution. In reality the ROI is likely to be lower, as the LED lighting installation will also reduce the running cost other equipment, such as air-conditioning, as previously mentioned. We believe that any return on investment below 4 years is excellent, and we aim to have our solutions providing an ROI of around 2 - 3 years.

Energy Audits

With power prices continuing to rise (Australian prices have doubled from 2004 - 2014), we believe that understanding your current electrical installation is important, so you know where your money is being spent and how you can subsequently cut costs.

At Southern LED Solutions we can carry out energy audits across any domestic, commercial or Industrial installation to show our clients their current energy consumption, and thus total cost of their existing electrical installation, so they can see where their money is being spent.

Power consumption can be measured across various individual circuit types (power and/or lighting) to give the most accurate breakdown of energy consumption.

The example to the right tracked power consumption for multiple lighting circuits over a 2 month sample period (1 month pre LED and 1 month Post LED), with varying types of LED fittings replacing existing Non-LED fittings.

A kW cost rate of $0.25 was applied, and the end result showed a projected annual savings of $19,205.55. For this particular installation the return on investment (ROI) was approximately 2.5 years.

Southern LED Solutions is extremely committed to protecting the environment throughout all the projects it’s involved in. We are listed advocates for the FluoroCycle scheme, and active in raising awareness about it’s environmental benefits.

We encourage all our clients to utilise the scheme, when carrying out LED changeovers that produce waste, such as fluoro tubes and metal halide lamps, which is a candidate for FluoroCycle disposal. As a company, we can take of all the details for arranging the disposal (including seeking quotations from registered scheme collectors) of mercury waste, on behalf of our clients, giving them peace of mind that they too are contributing to protecting our environment.

‘FluoroCycle is a voluntary product stewardship scheme that seeks to increase the national recycling rate of waste mercury-containing lamps. Lamp recycling can help reduce the amount of mercury sent to landfill. The scheme targets the commercial and industrial sectors where the bulk of waste lamps are generated.’
