SOUTHERN METRO CRICKET REGION - CRICKET SCHOLARSHIP TO THE UK In a new innovation for the Southern Metro Cricket Region, the Region Committee is offering a young cricketer a Cricket Scholarship to play a season of club cricket in England from April to September 2014. Under the Cricket Scholarship, a Southern Metro Cricket Region cricketer will spend a season with an appropriate league club in England. Details will be arranged and coordinated by noted former Dandenong Coach and ex Victorian player Brendan McArdle. The Region Committee reserves the right to offer more than one Scholarship if the calibre of applicants is high. The scholarship will include the following: A return airfare to the UK (note: a player may have to cover additional costs if over $2,500) Assistance with employment and accommodation while in the UK. Club Membership in the UK. Cricket gear valued at over $500. The selected player will be required to – _ Gain own flight and travel insurance (could be around $400) Cover luggage charges (could be up to $800 depending on amount of gear taken) Gain a working visa for the UK (approx $80) Gain an Australian passport Book own flight in conjunction with the Region Committee. Buy a Club Uniform from the hosting Club in the UK. Recommended have around $1000 money in cash on arrival. Gain international drivers licence (for a manual car). Assist with clinics & promotion of cricket in our region before departure. Cricketers from the Southern Metro Region aged between 18 and 25 years are invited to submit an expression of interest by Friday 24 th January 2014 addressed to the Southern Metro Region Cricket Committee. The expression of interest must include the following: a) A brief summary of your cricketing achievements and details of your current Club in our Region. b) Details of any cricket coaching courses or other coaching roles you have completed. c) A statement of your future aspirations for cricket, study and employment. d) The reasons why you would like to spend a season playing cricket in the UK. e) Your current resumé with details of your schooling and employment history. f) Contact details for two referees. g) A signed agreement from your parents or guardian approving your application and confirming financial commitments can be met. The expressions of interest will be assessed on merit by a Selection Committee made up of members of the Region Committee, Brendan McArdle and Adrian Jones the Regional Cricket Manager. The main selection criteria will be cricketing ability and potential, leadership qualities, maturity and sportsmanship. The successful applicant will be announced in February 2014. Following the announcement it is expected that the successful applicant will be available to assist with several initiatives to promote cricket in the region in early 2014.
