LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

A publisher emailed me asking, “What is Southern Writers Magazine? What do you do?” Well, I set about to tell him, and immediately paused. I could tell him this magazine highlighted authors and their books. I could tell him our mission, which is to inspire authors and promote their books. In addition, could tell him our vision, “To get good books out into the mainstream.” However, was that enough? Did that really answer what he was asking?

I pondered the question and realized it was so much more, and I needed to share that with him. Southern Writers is a promotional arm for authors. We help spread their names on a national basis; we share their books, not just one, but all of them. We promote their events, awards, book covers, excerpts, video trailers, and even assist them in developing their social media platforms. Just to name a few of the things we do.

Moreover, I could tell him how we bring successful authors together each issue to share how they achieved their successes, along with instructional articles and articles of inspiration. We created a magazine that is like a “mini-conference”, an educational and inspiring publication helping writers spark their creativity and meet the authors who are willing to give back and share with other authors how they succeeded.

I also wanted him to know our magazine was for serious writers. Writers who want to learn the ins and outs of this industry and reach their goals. These writers are worth reading and worth publishing because they spend the time and money to develop their craft.

Our September/October issue lives up to just that. We have brought you successful authors Davis Bunn, Cassandra King, Pamela Binnings Ewen, Lisa Wingate, Janet Lee Barton, Sharla Lovelace, Mary Hart Perry, and Cindy Sproles, just to mention a few. We included instructional and educational articles like “Why You Need a Book Proposal”, “What to Do If Someone Steals Your Book Idea”, “Book Signing Success”, “Creating a Virtual Tour”, from voices of experience.

We hope you enjoy this issue as much as we did creating it for you.

Happy writing!

Susan Reichert Editor-in-Chief Southern Writers Magazine
