In the Classroom

After studying The Crucible, Mr. Collier’s

CP English class created a grand finale with

artistic flair. Each group selected a favorite

scene and set about gathering props and cos-

tumes to support the depiction of that scene

using facial expressions and body positioning

in tableaus. Upon hearing their “curtain call,”

each group had 60 seconds to get into posi-

tion, and then “freeze the frame” for the 2-

minute tableau. To the delight of all, students

were highly invested and had a fantastic time.

What a great way to bring lessons to life!

Out of the Classroom Congratulations to the Marching Cardinals

for outstanding success at their 1st Annual Car

Show. The 47 participating cars drew a huge

crowd to provide a necessary base for fund-

raising success and netted the Marching Cards

$1500+. Of particular interest was the number

of participants who sported Southport memo-

rabilia, including a Southport yearbook, jackets,

shirts, and the like. Once again, SHS proved

that loyalty and traditions run deep.

Senior Kathryn Chappel recently joined an

elite group of 20 Indiana students who were

named as 2011 Out-

standing High School

Junior Award Recipi-

ents by Phi Beta Kap-

pa. Each young lady

was awarded a $100

Barnes and Noble gift certificate in honor of

high school achievements. Thank you,

Kathryn, for representing Southport so well!

Athletics Congratulations to Zoey Freese who fin-

ished 11th in the first round of play at the state

golf meet last Friday. Zoey’s prowess on the

golf course has already earned her a position

on UIndy’s golf team next year.

Remember to visit www.iHigh.com and join

as a Southport fan. Maddie Beck (SMS) was

last month’s fabulous fan and won an IPod.

This month the Athletic Department will be giv-

ing away two all-season sports passes and a

Southport spirit shirt. Support Southport Ath-

letics on the Web!
