Sober living residences provide a safe and supportive environment free of drugs and alcohol. They serve as effective bridges from a residential treatment facility to a person’s return home. Sober living residences offer more freedom than a treatment facility but have more structure and support, with less stress and fewer potential triggers than life at home. They can be used as a step-down option for those who have successfully completed a residential rehab treatment program or as a safe environment for those beginning outpatient or self-help treatment.

Studies have shown that those who transition through a sober living residence after completing a stay in a rehab treatment center have a better chance of avoiding relapse, as well as less chance of becoming homeless or being arrested. Sober living homes provide peer support from other recovering addicts, including discovering healthy ways to handle stress and other triggers, as a person transitions back to daily life. Sober living residences also provide a secure environment from which to search for a job, find a new place to live, work at restoring relationships and otherwise prepare to reenter society. The transition period in a sober living residence can be as little as 30 days or as long as a person requires.

Part of our distinctive approach to Sober Living involves providing structured framework for several hours per day as people prepare themselves to return home. Residents receive coaching to help them reacquire life skills and search for employment.

One reason our Sober Living program includes life skills coaching is that we want to help residents help themselves. We help people in recovery continue their educations. Coaching also addresses resume writing and job search skills, because we know nothing builds confidence and self-esteem faster and better than bringing home a paycheck.
