This is an interesting turn of events! Take a look at this article:

“Canadian Firm Buying Colorado’s DigitalGlode for $2.4 Billion”.

DigitalGlobe is the com-pany operating the WorldView “commercial Earth-observing space-craft,” among others

(headquartered in West-minster, CO).

MDA is the Canadian aerospace firm respon-sible for the robotic arms on the Shuttle (Canadarm 1) and the ISS (Canadarm 2). This might give us some interesting partnering

possibilities for future programs.

Samantha is actively working with Modular Robotics to get the rota-tor action cubelet re-paired. She’s also working on getting more screws to replace the ones that have come loose and a way to make sure they

as well as reflect current science and best prac-tices. This, of course has been long process since many of the manuals hadn’t been updated since before Space Odyssey was opened in 2003!

Thanks to the efforts of several

members of the Educa-tor/Performer (floor staff) team, the Space Science Newsroom, and Naomi, we’re happy to announce that 11 more updated manuals are now available on the Galaxy Guide Portal for you! Cont’ on pg.4.

As many of you know, Samantha and Naomi have been working on updating all the manuals for Space Odyssey for the past couple of years. We want to make sure that all of them have current pictures, include the correct set-up and take-down procedures,

Please Tidy Up Experiment Bar at

End of Shift!

Folks, please tidy up at the end of your respective shifts at the Experiment Bar. We’ve heard from some volunteers that the bar is sometimes messy and the Mars simulated soil is often left out. It’s helpful to your fellow Galaxy Guides who facilitate at the shift following yours to find that all goodies are organized, neat and have been put away. Gracias!

You will return home with a new appreciation for the immensity, complexity, and beauty of our solar system and beyond.

Space Tours Live! is a brand new, paid Panetari-um show that’s featured daily at 2:45 p.m. MGGs are welcome to come watch the show for free

Don’t See the Schedule on the Galaxy Stage Screen or it Needs Fixing?

No problem. Simply find the floor staff and kindly ask them to correct the schedule. Can’t find them?

Then call Museum Programs Logistics at x6494 and report it. Thanks!

Found an Issue on the Floor? Please Jot Down on White Board! Folks, we can’t say it enough! If you find an issue that needs fix-ing, please jot it down on the white board in Room 2003. A brief description and a date will do the trick. Likewise, please re-member to check that white board at the start of your shift so you know the status of fixes. Merci!

Message from Ana’s Cubie

Salutations Space Odyssey and Prehistoric Journey facilitators!

A hearty thanks for your ingenious ways of sparking curiosity in guests

and team mates.

In addition, I’d like to send a huge shout out to each of you for graciously

facilitating space and earth sciences to little and adult guests exploring

our exhibits on regular days, free days and the extra busy school spring

break season; showing the ropes to newbie volunteers, Galaxy Guides

and Team Leaders in your respective areas; answering questions of ex-

cited guests who are flocking to the highly successful Vikings temporary

exhibit; AND for still signing up and helping the Museum with Girls and

Science (over 9,000 guests), Science Lounges and New Member Nights!

Please don’t hesitate to send me an email or leave a note at my desk, if

we haven’t connected in a bit and you need something from me. As most

of you have noticed, my schedule is also included in the initial automated

response you receive when you email me. And, of course, if you’re in the

Museum, you can also find my schedule displayed outside of my cubie.

I remain thankful for your patience, as I continue to juggle a rotating

schedule and a busy season of onboarding new volunteers. See you fine

folks at briefings, exhibit halls and my cubie!

Grateful for you…

Ana

The next two “60 Minutes in Space” programs will take place on Wed., March 29, at 7 p.m. in the Gates

Planetarium.

Don’t miss out on this intri-guing (and free!) series that brings ’behind the stories’ in space science with awe-inspiring images, animation and, of course, solid scien-tific content.

DID YOU KNOW?

March is Women’s History

Month!

In honor of March being Women’s His-tory Month, Frances Kruger, Senior Exhibit Developer and Prehistoric Journey Core Team Project Manager, and Dr. Paula Cushing, Senior Cura-tor, Invertebrate Zoology, put together a list of meaningful dates that highlight issues that women protested for and gained the rights to do. In addition, in honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, Dr. Cush-ing complied a fun “Test Your Knowledge” list of pioneering women and their spectacular accomplishments based on related groupings. Kudos to Frances and Paula for these efforts.

If you’d like a copy of these listings, email Ana.
