Camp Hours : 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (Inside: 8:00 am to 2:30 pm Outside Rocketry: 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm) R8 pdf  The programs of Space Voyage Summer Camp are organized by level, with each level having specific requirements in knowledge, skill, confidence, teamwork and experience . This summer, Space Voyage offers three types of programs: Pathfinder awareness programs (for ages 6-8),  Astronaut Cadet programs f or ages 9-16, and the Space Voyage Leader Interns (14 and above). Shuttle Flight and Space Station Sim ulators. For the Pathfinders (ages 6-8) the program is one of awareness and exploration. With hundreds of activities to select from, the instructors design week-long programs unique to the strengths and interes ts of participants. Every P athfinder is able to earn their Space Flight Medal of Honor. Requirements are process based and include: Do your best, Ask questions, Tell the instructors what you need, and Work as a team when asked. In the Astronaut Cadet program (ages 9-16) students become part of a crew or team to explore and master the complex operations involved in space flight, building and managing a functioning space station. In the Space Voyage Leadership Intern Program (ages 14+) students are immersed in a leadership experience working with staff and cadet crews. Interns may or may not have had prior expe rience with the program .  Abo ut The Camp Staf f. Leadership for each week-long study is provided by Dr. Mark “Doc” Palmere, Ph.D. Dr. Palmere has an extensive background in inspiring, motivating and empowering high-potential students. Dr. Palmere has led the Space Voyage programs since 1987, immersing students in “thinking like an astronaut” and encouraging skill development in the areas of problem solving, communication, teamwork, aeronautics and leadership. Dr. Palmere holds a B.S. in Biological Science, a master’s degree in Educational Psychology and a double doctorate in Psychological and Cultural Studies; and, School Administration, Curriculum and Instruction. Camp Counselors and Certified Instructors at Space Voyage Summer Camp are carefully screened, are knowledgeable and are good role models. Students from metro Denver and Colorado schools and from as far away as Chicago, New Jersey and California, Egypt and Japan have attended as a vacation destination. Space Voyage Summer Camp is designed for students with an interest in the area of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math. This STEAM camp immerses students in “thinking and working as-if they are astronauts.” To be successful students should: 1) Be interested in one or more STEAM subjects, 2) Be capable of independent work; 3) Have the maturity of a child his/her age. Everyone Achieves Their Own Medal. 

Specific objectives for each program are given tothe students at the beginning of the program week.Instructors and Camp Counselors assist, guide, andmonitor progress of each student, signing offrequirements upon completion. When all objectivesare complete, an instructor formally recommends the

student for recognition of completion of that level. At an awards ceremony, a Space Flight Medal ofHonor is presented. Space Voyage Summer Campis designed for every student to achieve.

 Abou t the Astronaut Cadet Levels... Fo r ages 9-16. 

The different cadet levels are based on theknowledge, skill, confidence and experience needed tocomplete the objectives for that level. The scientificmethod, vision and persistence are the cornerstones ofour achievement model. Each level of achievementbuilds on the one before, al lowing the students toexperience an open-ended and sophisticated learningexperience that takes place across time.

 Ast ronaut Cadet Levels… For Ages 9-16.

Level 1  Exploration and introduction to spaceflightmission planning, space flight operations, space stationconstruction and teamwork.Level 2  Mastery of spaceflight mission planning,

shuttle flight, space pod control, flight documentation

and teamwork.

Level 3  Proficiency in spaceoperations. Successful constructionof a space station and managementof a research project aboard theirSpace Station.

Level 4  Expertise in spaceoperations. Successful constructionof a space station and managementof multiple research projectsaboard their Space Station.

Level 5  Author a novel or radio drama based on actualevents that could occur aboard a space station. Level 5cadets share their expertise and interests about spaceflight. 

Level 6 Contributor / Inventor. Work with senior staff to

invent, design and test a new technology that can be usedto learn a new concept or skill.

Space Intern Program... For ages 14 and above.  

This leadership program immerses high schoolstudents and college students to a leader-in-trainingprogram. Interns work under the direction of Dr. Palmereand will learn about leadership first hand. Participatingstudents will have the opportunity to observe, read about,apply their new knowledge, and reflect with senior staff.The leadership models used will be based on the SpaceVoyage Instructor Certification program as L5 Leadershipand the work of John C. Maxwell and others. Upon

successful completion of their internship, each student willreceive a Certificate of Achievement, be able to list theinternship experience on college applications, and use Dr.Palmere as a reference. For questions, please callDr. Palmere at 303-985-3143.

 A. Regist rat ion Process. Discuss camp with family, select possible weeks(s),print Registration Form (page 3 of brochure), fill out registration form and mailin with your payment. Make checks payable to Space Voyage. Please sendpayment to: Space Voyage, 1504 South Johnson Court, Lakewood, CO 80232.Upon receipt, we’ll E-mail you a letter of confirmation, receipt and more.

B. Refund Policy and Fees.Full refunds, less a $25 administrative fee, are available if requested beforeMarch 31, 2015. Partial or half refunds, less a $50 administrative fee, areoffered until May 15, 2015. Returned check fee is $30. Replacement receiptsare free. We can E-mail you a .pdf as needed.

C. Summer Camp Location, Address and Directions. 

Space Voyage Summer Summer Camp will be set up at Ken Caryl MiddleSchool, 6504 W. Ken Caryl Ave, Littleton, CO 80128. Driving Directionsand maps are available on our website in the summer camp section.

D. Transportation. Transportation to and from each program location is a parent responsibility. Acar pool list will be prepared and E-mailed to parents requesting carpoolinformation on the registration form. Only those marking YES for Car Pool Info

E. Crew Size.Crew size is typically two to four students. Students are encouraged to attendSpace Voyage Summer Camp with their friends. Each crew designs a uniqueMission Patch.

Q1: How are the students grouped?Crews are formed based on program level, age and conceptual level. Studentsattending with friends are can be placed on the same crew.

Q2: Can I complete a Level in a week? Or, more than on Level in a week? A) All Pathfinder levels and Astronaut Cadet Level 1 and Level 2,are designed to be completed in one week. Astronaut Cadet Levels 3, 4 and 5take longer as levels are competency based. Cadets can continue their Levelfrom one camp week to another and from this summer to next summer.Leadership internships can last one or more weeks. B) Inspired and motivatedstudents sometimes complete Cadet Level 1 and Level 2 in one week. Youand your crew work at the pace you choose.

Q3: How does each day break down? Students arrive between 7:30 and 8:00am,Morning program runs 8 to 11:15am, Lunch from11:15-11:45am; Afternoonprogram runs 11:45am to 2:30pm. Program moves outside for Rocketry andwater based space labs from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Students picked up at 4 p.m.
