Ávila is most known for the medieval city walls, that were constructed of brown granite in 1090: surmounted by a breastwork, with eighty-eight towers and nine gateways.

They are still in excellent repair, but a large part of the city lies beyond their perimeter.

They were declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1985.

The City of the Arts and the Sciences is an entertainment-based cultural

and architectural complex in the city of Valencia. It is situated at the end of

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra was a Spanish novelist, poet and playwright.His magnum opus, Don Quijote, often considered the first modern novel, is a

classic of Western literature and is regularly regarded among the best novels ever written. His work is

considered among the most important in all of literature.

He was born on the 29th of September in 1547 and died on the 23rd of April in

1616.

Don Quijote, fully titled El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha (The Ingenious Hidalgo

Don Quixote of La Mancha) is a novel written by Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes.

It is the second-most translated book in the world, after the Bible.

Published in two volumes a decade apart (in 1605 and 1615), Don Quijote is the most influential work of literature to emerge from the Spanish

Golden Age and it regularly appears high on lists of the greatest works of fiction ever published in

modern Western literature.

Alonso Quixano, a retired country gentleman in his fifties, lives in an unnamed section of La Mancha with his niece and a housekeeper. He has become obsessed with books of chivalry, and believes their every

word to be true, despite the fact that many of the events in them are clearly impossible. Quixano eventually appears to other people to have lost his mind from little sleep and food and because of so much reading.

Holy Week is the annual commemoration in the Christian

calendar of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.

In Andalucía and other regions, some people walk in procession through the

streets carrying on the sculptures of Virgins and Jesus from the churches,

among other activities.

The Falles are a Valencian traditional celebration during the week leading up to 19 th of March.

On the final night of Falles, around midnight on March 19th, these falles are burnt as huge bonfires.

The festival of San Fermín is celebrated in Pamplona (region of Navarra) for

one week from 6th to 14th of July. The most famous event is the encierro,

the running of the bulls. It involves hundreds of people running in front of

six bulls and another six steers down an 825-metres stretch of narrow streets of a section of the old town of Pamplona.Another event is that a replica of the

statue of Saint Fermin (the co-patron of Navarra) is accompanied by dancers,

street entertainers and thousand people along the streets.

The week-long celebration involves many other traditional and folkloric

events.
