Course DescriptionThis Spanish intermediate course has been designed to further develop proficiency in the four basic areas of language development: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In this course students will be expected to use the target language at all times and demonstrate excellent work habits. Class activities, discussions and chapter projects will provide multiple opportunities to refine grammar skills, broaden students’ vocabulary, explore authentic up-to-date Spanish culture, and establish connections and comparisons between the Spanish culture and their own. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to respond appropriately and logically to a variety of situations. Prerequisite: successful completion of Spanish I and/or Department approval.

Your teacher

• Originally from Venezuela, moved to the US almost 20 years ago

• Has been at PC for 19 years• Holds a BA in Education and

Foreign Language Teaching and a MA in Applied Linguistics and Foreign Language Teaching

• Has two kids, one who is a PC graduate and another who is a Senior. Both of them are PC lifers

• Speaks 4 languages• Wrote the Spanish textbook for

Spanish V and Spanish IV Literature Honors

• Has taught 12 out of the 13 Spanish courses offered at PC

• Is here to help you become the best Spanish speaker you can be!

• This is a Spanish class, so we speak Spanish at ALL times (today is the exception.)

• If you do not know how to say something, try to find another way to say it. I will always help you find the missing word.

• Spanish is a beautiful and rich language, sometimes very similar to English, sometimes VERY different. I will show you how it works.

Technology

• You will need your computer, headsets, and your phones almost everyday.

• You will frequently use the Internet to find information and share it with the class. You will always visit sites in Spanish.

• Online translators are not allowed.

• Special characters are part of the word, you may not omit them.

• You will make and edit videos in this class, make sure your computer has either IMovie or Windows Movie Maker installed.

• Culture and language are undeniably intertwined.

• You will learn about many Spanish speaking countries in this course.

• Most of the times we will research together, and then I will add or clarify the information you shared.

The Basílica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Família is a large Roman Catholic church in Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain), designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926). Although incomplete, the church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

• You will write on a weekly basis in this class.

• We will read texts written by famous Spanish speaking writers.

• In case you wonder why: Reading improves your vocabulary, your grammar, and consequently your writing skills. It also helps to boost your analytical thinking, and reduces stress!

The Camino de Santiagopilgrimage route (most commonly the Camino Francés or French route) to the shrine of the apostle St. James the Great in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the saint are buried. Many take up this route as a form of spiritual path or retreat for their spiritual growth.

Salar de Uyuni (or Salar de Tunupa) is the world's largest salt flat at 10,582 square kilometers (4,086 sq mi). It is located in the Daniel Campos Province in Potosí in southwest Bolivia, near the crest of the Andes and is at an elevation of 3,656 meters (11,995 ft) above mean sea level.[1]
