“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart. ”
By Nelson Mandela.
PGCPS Spanish Immersion Spanish Immersion is an educational approach in which students are taught the curriculum content through the medium of a second language, Spanish. Children learn their entire core subjects (reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science) in Spanish. Spanish speaking teachers immerse students 100% in the target language as they learn the Prince George’s County Public Schools curriculum. In this way, immersion students not only learn the content, but also gain knowledge of the language in which it is taught. Note: Admission is limited to students entering Kindergarten. Students must be 5 years of age by September 1 to enter Kindergarten. Spanish Full Immersion model is a replica of our successful French Full Immersion program.
After School Programs/Clubs
Our students have a wide range of interests and participate in many after school activities. Here are a couple: The Overlook Drama Club (grades 2-5) Exposes students to various aspects of theater including impromptu skits, vocal music, dance, costume design, set design, props and tech crew. The club will work on creative thinking skills, encourage teamwork, and provide students with enriched learning experiences in the area of performing arts. Meeting day Thursdays from 2:15 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Girl Scouts of the USA ( grades K-5) is the largest organization for girls in the world. Through activities in science and technology, business and economic literacy, and outdoor and environmental awareness, Girl Scouting provides girls with opportunities for fun and friendship while fostering the development of leadership skills and self-esteem. Meeting day Tuesdays 2:15 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
