IMK/IAA Retrievals Scientific processor, independent from ESA

level 2 processing Different retrieval approach Fixed altitude grid, finer than tangent altitude

spacing - Regularization (Tikhonov-Phillips) Retrieval of additional parameters beyond

ESA standard products

IMK/IAA Retrievals Presented results are based on reprocessed Level

1b data (improved spectra quality) sophisticated retrieval baselines, based on

experience gained with NRT spectra. baselines consistent for all results consistent data from Sep 2002 until March 2004 approximately 1 complete day processed ever 10

days.

Water VapourBaseline version H2O_11

– Improved microwindow set– Relaxed regularization than previous products

(increased vertical resolution)– Consistent pre-retrieved shift and temperature

Conclusion Seasonal differences and peculiarities in water vapour

distributions were observed Increased H2O vmr around 30-40° N during July can be

attributed to the Indian Monsoon region Interannual differences for September (2002 vs. 2003) are

clearly visible Temporal evolution of water vapour fields show a clear

tape-recorder signal in the tropics and subsidence over South Pole

The IMK/IAA water vapour data set provides accurate data for analysis of initial 18 months of MIPAS measurements
