Dear SPCA Members and Friends, During this season of thanks and giving, we are ever grateful for each of you...the wonderful members of our SPCA team. We’re thankful for the parents and children who have lemonade stands and who ask for shelter donations instead of birthday gifts; for the lady who clips coupons to buy pet food to donate; for the teacher who organizes class projects and encourages kindness for animals; for the students who choose the SPCA for their volunteerism; for those who donate items to our Second Chances Thrift Store; for the volunteers who magically make cool things happen; for compassionate animal control officers; for the friends who share our Facebook posts and emails; for people who take the time to report animal cruelty/neglect; for the local business- es who open their hearts to our organization; for the shelter staff and volunteers who work so hard and see things that are difficult to understand and impossible to forget; for local and state decision-makers and animal welfare organizations who advocate humanity for creatures which have no choice but to depend on us; for those who adopt and foster; for those who spay and neuter so that one day we might win this winnable battle; for the local veterinarians who support our efforts; for the Good Samaritans who rescue lost and homeless pets so that they never step paw into our shelter; and for the donors who make it possible for us to continue our mission to give our community’s pets a second chance. We simply could not do what we do without YOU. Blessings to you and yours, and best wishes for a joyous holiday season. Celebrating YOU Friend us on Facebook! Dear SPCA Members and Friends,

During this season of thanks and giving, we are ever grateful for each of you...the wonderful members of our SPCA team. Winter 2013

What’s new on our website?

So glad you asked! We have LOTS of new and helpful information, such as: How to report animal cruelty/neglect What to do if you’ve lost or found a pet How to handle pet allergies

Check us out! lenoircountyspca.org

Sponsor a Shelter Pet at Christmas! SPCA staff and volunteers would love nothing more than for all the shelter pets to find warm, lov-ing homes this holiday season, but there will still be roughly 100 adoptable pets patiently waiting for their forever homes on Christmas Day. $10 per pet will help us provide a tiny bit of “Home for the Holidays”, which will include a delicious home-cooked meal, a toy, and a special treat on Christmas Eve.

Online donations to sponsor a pet can be made through PayPal on the SPCA’s website, lenoircountyspca.org.

Donations can be dropped off at the shelter (Rouse Rd), as well as Second Chanc-es Thrift Store on Vernon Avenue

Donations can be mailed to: Lenoir County SPCA, PO Box 1481, Kinston NC 28503 Thank you for helping us make the holidays just a little brighter for these amazing animals!

Got a bunch of plastic grocery bags cluttering up your kitchen? The store would love to have them!

Volunteers are very important to the success of the store, which in turn helps our SPCA. If you’re over 16 & would like to volunteer at Second Chances, just call the store at 252-522-0787. Tammy or Ginny will be glad to talk to you!

Start the New Year off right, by decluttering! Second Chances is ALWAYS needing donations of furniture & household items. When you drop off your items, store staff will gladly give you a tax receipt for your donation.

We have adoptable cats/kittens at the store every Friday & Saturday, so come on in and meet a few of our awesome kitties!

Rescue News

Please, ID Your Pets!

Tag, you’re it!

Every week we receive messages from distraught pet owners looking for their lost pet, and sadly, many are never recovered. Even indoor pets can escape and become lost, so having a properly fitted collar with a current owner identification tag is one of the most important things owners can do to increase the odds of being reunited with their be-loved companions. How else will shelter staff, animal control officers, or Good Samari-tans know whom to call? In addition, many people are less afraid of approaching a pet with a collar & ID, and more willing to help them. There are many varieties of ID tags available online, through your vet, and through pet supply stores such as Petsense. We recently ordered some for only $1.99 each, no ship-ping! Please, ID your pet today!

Shelter News: Canned Pet Food Drive

Shelter Wish List

1. Canned pet food 2. Dry Puppy/Kitten food Then: Kong toys Cat litter Paper towels Pine Sol, Bleach Dawn dish detergent

We use dry pet food when able, but canned pet food is often needed, and is a big expense for the SPCA. Often our pets need canned food because they are very young or elderly, or they may be sick, malnourished or injured. Cynthia Carrano and The Baron & The Beef (Hwy 70E, Kinston) are hosting a

canned pet food drive through Christmas. Take your food donations to the Baron & The Beef, and draw a ticket for a free delicious menu item such as Salmon, Pork Chops, Scallops, Shrimp, Chicken, and of course steak! Everyone’s a winner!

Crystal Beiner will have a table set up at Vernon Park Mall on Saturday, Dec. 14th from 10-1 to collect canned food donations for the SPCA.

Canned pet food can also be dropped off at our shelter or at Second Chances Thrift Store.

We have a new rescue van! (Well, frankly we didn’t really WANT the expenditure of a new van, but it sorta became a necessity.) Since the SPCA van is driven by volunteers each Satur-day to transport pets to Virginia, it’s essential that we have a safe, reliable vehicle for them. We’ll be announcing an exciting project for our old rescue van soon, so stay tuned!

The best gifts are the most meaningful gifts. If you make a Christmas donation to the SPCA in the name of a special person, we’ll send them a card notifying them of your gift given on their be-half. The card will show animals from our shelter, with the following text:

Please include the gift recipient’s name and ad-dress for notification.
