Steven Thomson is the Program and Communications Manager at the Van Alen Institute.

Van Alen’s work is inspired by two fundamental questions: How do cities impact our minds

and bodies? And in turn, how do we impact the environment? Their goal is to develop a

better understanding of these complex relationships through the lens of design. In his

position, Thomson works at the intersection of media and the built environment.

Noah joined the Foundation in June 2014 with previous experience at the Daniels Fund and El

Pomar. He has managed a portfolio of grants in areas of aging, alcoholism and substance

abuse, amateur sports, early childhood education, K-12 education reform, ethics &

integrity in education, homeless and disadvantaged, and youth development.

+ Curt Bean, Artist and Art of War Project

Curt leads the charge for veteran services through the Art of War Project, which he founded

to provide creative resources to veterans. Curt has been recognized for these efforts

through a Creative Leadership Award in 2015 from the Governor of Colorado and is a 2017

Westword Mastermind. He is a veteran who trained and led soldiers in Iraq with the U.S. Army.

+ Paul Tamburello, Owner & Broker, Generator Real Estate

Dubbed the “Godfather” of Denver’s Highland neighborhood, Paul has developed and

consulted on several well-known projects, including: Highland Lofts; Root Down and

Linger restaurants; and LoHi Market Place (Olinger). He is now working on five adaptive

reuse projects in Denver's Sunnyside neighborhood. Paul’s mission is simple; develop

buildings that will endure for residents, visitors and the community at large..

Kyle Zeppelin is President of Zeppelin Places, a recognized developer of innovative mixed-use

projects that have played a major role in transforming Denver’s urban core. Notable projects

include: TAXI, the repurposed 20 acre former Yellow Cab terminal; and The Source, a new

generation urban market completed in 2013. Broader efforts in the community are focused on

improving bikeability, walkability & transit.bikeability, walkability, and transit.

+KRISTIN TOOMBS, HOMELESS PROGRAMS MANAGER, DEPARTMENT OF LOCAL AFFAIRS

Kristin Toombs is the manager of the Homeless Programs Team where she provides leadership

on homelessness, housing and services to meet the needs of Colorado's most

vulnerable citizens.

+ Eric Mamula, Mayor of Breckenridge

Breckenridge Mayor Eric Mamula opened his bar and restaurant, Downstairs at Eric’s, in 1989. He

began his political career in 1994 & has served on several boards and commissions.

+ Elizabeth Garner, Colorado State Demographer, Co. Dept. of Local Affairs

Elizabeth Garner is the State Demographer and joined the Colorado Department of

Local Affairs in 2004. The State Demography Office produces population and economic

estimates and forecast for use by state agencies and local governments. Current

areas of research include aging in Colorado, characteristics of migration and poverty.

Julie Burros, Chief of Arts and Culture, fills a City of Boston cabinet level position

reporting directly to Mayor Martin J. Walsh. She leads Boston Creates, the City’s

cultural plan, and Boston AIR, a program that positions artists as leaders of

system-wide change. Her office is charged with enhancing the quality of life, the

economy and the design of the City through the arts. Burros trained as an urban

planner and is a 20-year veteran of municipal government public service.

+ Sarabeth Berk, Innovation Strategist and Scout, Univ. of Colorado Boulder

Sarabeth is an Artist/Researcher/Teacher/Designer who studies multiple professional

identities and the intersections that form within professional spaces. She works

comfortably in both creative and analytical spaces, and is a boundary crosser who

regularly translates ideas amongst art, design, education, innovation, and

entrepreneurship.

+ Brianna Firestone, Director of Customer Experience & Marketing, Denver

Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA)

Brianna Firestone oversees DCPA customer experience, ticketing and loyalty campaigns

and front of house operations for the Theatre Company. Since joining the DCPA in 2012
