Speakers On February 20, 2018, Mr. Ban Ki-moon was elected as the President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). His leadership enables the Institute to help its Members to successfully adopt the green growth model of development, which is in line with the work he spearheaded at the United Nations. In addition to leading GGGI, Mr. Ban serves as the Chair of Korea’s National Council on Climate and Air Quality since April 2019 and Chair of the Boao Forum for Asia since April 2018. Along with the former President of Austria Mr. Heinz Fischer, he serves as Co-Chair of the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens in Vienna, Austria since January 2018. Mr. Ban is the Chairman of the International Olympic Committee Ethics Commission since September 2017, and he is the Distinguished Chair Professor and Honorary Chairman at the Institute of Global Engagement and Empowerment at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. Mr. Ban also serves as Deputy Chair of The Elders since 2017, an independent group of global leaders established by President Nelson Mandela. Prior to the current appointments above, Mr. Ban served two consecutive terms as the Eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) from 2007 to 2016, during which time he worked to build bridges, to give voice to the world’s most vulnerable and marginalized people, and to bring transparency and effectiveness to the UN. He successfully initiated global action to combat climate change that culminated in the adoption and rapid entry into force the landmark Paris Climate Change Agreement in 2016. He worked closely with member states to shape the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to establish UN Women, the latter of which advances global gender equality and women’s empowerment. He also led major efforts to strengthen UN peace operations, protect human rights, improve humanitarian assistance, prevent violent extremism and revitalize disarmament activities. Prior to leading the UN, Mr. Ban was Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea. His 37-year career as a diplomat included postings in New Delhi, Washington D.C., and Vienna, as well as key responsibilities for a variety of portfolios, including as the Foreign Policy Advisor to the President, the Chief National Security Advisor to the President, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Deputy Minister for Policy Planning, and the Director-General for American Affairs. Mr. Ban contributed significantly to issues relating to inter-Korea relations and WMD proliferation by serving as Vice Chair of the South—North Joint Nuclear Control Commission and Chairman of the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization. Mr. Ban holds a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Seoul National University and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Ingvild Solvang has nearly 20 years of experience working in international development and humanitarian affairs. Based in Southeast Asia for nearly two decades, she has responded to emergencies, while also managing development programs for various organizations worldwide, always with a focus on poverty reduction, gender equality and social inclusion. Prior to joining GGGI’s HQ in Seoul, Ingvild was the Global Lead for Entrepreneurship with CARE’s Women’s Economic Empowerment Team. With her partner, she has also supported the management of ViaVia Jogja, a sustainable tourism social enterprise in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Ingvild has a postgraduate degree in Social Anthropology from the University of Oslo and an MFA in Creative Writing from City University of Hong Kong. Chamberlain is a Professional Civil Engineer (BSc); Certified Development Project Manager (PMP, Dip.); and Transformation enthusiast (MSc. in Innovation and Entrepreneurship). At the OECS Commission he oversees a portfolio spanning: Climate Change and Disaster Resilience; Biodiversity and Ecosystems; Land and Water Resources; Ocean Governance and Fisheries; Sustainable Energy; and Chemicals, Waste and Pollution Management. Chamberlain has over twenty years of practical experience in leading regional and national programs and projects for sustainable development in Eastern Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Lilibeth is responsible for developing the Green Growth Index and Simulation Tool in GGGI. She has over 15 years of experience in indicator development, integrated assessment and scenario modelling of climate change vulnerability and adaptation as well as sustainable development in the fields of ecosystem and biodiversity, agriculture and land use, and renewable energy. She worked as development specialist in the National Economic Development Authority in the Philippines, senior scientist in the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany, and researcher in Environmental Science departments in the universities in Japan, Belgium, UK and the Philippines. Before joining GGGI, she worked as consultant in the ADB, UNCCD and UNCTAD. She is an expert in the Task Force on Modelling and Scenarios of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and coordinating lead author of IPBES reports on Assessment of Models and Scenarios as well as Asia Pacific Regional Assessment. Chengchen Qian is the National Coordinator for China of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Coordinator of the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP). Chengchen holds an M.Sc. in Process, Energy, and Environmental Systems Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin. José is a Senior Advisor for DevTech Systems, Inc. He has vast experience developing macroeconomic fiscal frameworks (currently working on DevTech’s team for Puerto Rico’s Fiscal Plan; DevTech’s team for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Fiscal Rule; DevTech’s team for Venezuela’s Education Sector Diagnostic; and EGSA). He works on modeling for forecasting of key macroeconomic variables, and sizing of fiscal policies and structural reforms for construction of macroeconomic scenarios (including long term prospects). Jose is DevTech’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Officer. José is also a Senior Consultant working on macroeconomic modeling and indicators with the Economy Division, UN Environment. Jose was a senior researcher for UNDP Human Development Report. He has extensive research experience on macroeconomics, international trade and green economy. Prior to joining the UN, he was Deputy Director of Research at CAF Latin American Bank. He has also served as Chief Economist of VENAMCHAM, and as consultant for the Venezuelan Ministry of Finance, the Venezuelan Central Bank. Prior joining DevTech, José was Adjunct Professor of Macroeconomics and Government and Business in Sauder School of Business at University of British Columbia. José has several publications in academic journals and policy outlets, and he has two published textbooks in macroeconomics: Macroeconomía y Petróleo (2008) by Pearson Education and Macroeconomics and Natural Resources (2021) by Kendal Hunt. Ali Kerem Saysel is an interdisciplinary scholar on social-ecological resilience and sustainability transformations. He is a specialist in the field of System Dynamics for modeling and simulation of dynamically complex problems, practicing systems thinking, dynamic modeling, simulation, interactive gaming and participatory processes for resource management, policy design and building foresight on sustainable futures. He is an associate editor of the System Dynamics Review and a Member of the IPBES Task Force on Scenarios and Models (2019-22). His current research and teaching involve sustainable groundwater management in the Mediterranean (PRIMA 2020-23) and systems analysis MOOCs for sustainability transformation (Erasmus+ 2020-23). He acted as the principal investigator for the research on urban transformation in Istanbul under the Horizon 2020 project on Green Growth and Win-Win strategies for sustainable climate action, between 2015-18.
