About the Conference

As healthcare spending continues to dramatically increase, employers are taking control in an effort to curtail costs while improving the overall health of their workforce. Also, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the primacy of health and wellbeing has never been more profound. Surveys have indicated that over one third of employers have implemented on-site employee clinics, while many others are in the process of either establishing their own clinics or are interested in creating one. Today, a health center can offer a full array of services spanning primary care and prevention to diagnostic testing, chronic condition management, pharmacy dispensing, physical therapy, lab work, wellness, etc. The overall results have been positive, reflecting improved employee health and productivity, attraction and retention, as well as well being and satisfaction. Human resources, benefits and wellness leaders, as well as medical directors will discuss the value of on-site clinics as a successful strategy in controlling health care costs, enabling easy access to medical services, improving employee health, enhancing engagement in worksite programs—and ultimately increasing employee productivity and loss of absenteeism. You will also learn the benefits associated with expanding the present services of current on-site health clinics, and practical solutions to operate a cost-effective healthcare program while providing quality healthcare and wellness programs.

This is the only conference on On-Site Employee Health Clinics that will equip you and your organization with innovative practices, case studies and tools to succeed with reducing healthcare costs, improving workforce health and productivity, and boosting employee engagement and satisfaction. By attending the 2021 On-Site Employee Health Clinics Congress, you will learn what highly regarded organizations are doing to improve employee population health and productivity.

7:15am – 8:00am Conference Registration & Networking Breakfast

8:00am – 8:15am Chairperson’s Opening Remarks

8:15am – 9:00amImplementing Value-Based Care Principles to Achieve the Quadruple Aim through Full Risk On-Site Care Delivery Arrangements and Harmonized Healthcare Benefits Design

On-site and near-site workplace primary care clinics have long sought to offer high quality primary care to the self-funded health plan members - employees and their family members. Accessible, high quality on-site and near-site care facilitates better health for the employees and their family members, helps lower healthcare costs, and has other tangible benefits, such as higher productivity and lower employee turnover, absenteeism and presenteeism. Such paradigm, however incrementally beneficial, largely has fallen short of realizing a fundamentally higher value in healthcare. In this presentation, we will explore how value-based care design and associated risk-based contracting with a primary care delivery partner, aided by a strategic health benefits alignment, promises to unlock the next level of value in workplace healthcare delivery: the elusive quadruple aim.

9:00am – 9:45amOn-site Health Clinics & Wellness Programs: A Unique and Successful Partnership

Adding an employee health clinic and integrating it with your in house wellness program can take your program from well to wow! Onsite health clinics can be just the impetus your employees need to make lasting health change.

Paired well, these two programs help identify at risk employees, educate them about their health needs, reward them for healthy behaviors and provide access to preventive medical advice and services to make those changes stick. This session will highlight one company’s unique, hands-on approach to cultivating an innovative partnership between its Employee Health Clinic and their employee wellness program. The talk will highlight tangible examples that can used to make this partnership a successful driver of employee health and wellbeing.

10:15am – 11:00amThe Vital Role and Onsite Employee Health Clinic Plays During a Pandemic

Organizations across the world are being fundamentally challenged by the pandemic. Companies need to optimize all existing tools to safeguard business continuity. On-site employee health clinics play a vital role in keeping businesses safely open. They are a frontline defense; and a central hub for detecting, evaluating and managing risks. From helping to set physical distancing guidelines and managing possible exposure, to timely hospital referrals and disease management, these clinics are proving invaluable. This session will examine the advantages of on-site clinics that go beyond government mandated requirements.

11:00am – 11:45amLegal Implications for the On-Site Clinic as an Employee Benefit Plan

On-site clinics are often treated as a group health plan, subject to the same rules as a company’s medical, dental, and other employee benefit plans. How an on-site clinic is treated will depend a lot on the services provided by the on-site clinic and how those services are priced. This presentation will explore those rules and help you understand what is required under ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, the tax code, and other employee benefit plan laws.

1:45pm – 2:30pmIntegrating Behavioral Health Services into Your On-Site Health Center

Encouraging employees to seek care for mental health can be challenging and aligning it with an on-site clinic must include careful considerations. This session will share insights on how the employer identified their population’s unmet need for mental health services, identified the model for their location, and successfully implemented a thriving program. This discussion will address topics like how to protect patient confidentiality with an on-site model, finding the right level of care, building trust and credibility with a local provider, and lessons learned from a first-time implementation. The talk will explore how, built on a “culture eats wellness for breakfast” model, the employer has embraced employee well-being as a core principle of how they do business.

4:00pm – 4:45pmImproving Employee Health with an On-Site Health Center

It is no secret that healthcare in America faces difficult challenges, particularly in rural areas. This session will discuss how an onsite health and wellness center does not just improve employee engagement, as data suggests, a health center also makes financial sense by encouraging preventive health and diverting employees away from costly urgent care centers and emergency rooms. A properly structured onsite medical facility can provide employees with convenient, high-quality, low-cost, and easily accessible healthcare services, which can help improve the physical and mental health of employees, manage costs and outcome efficiency, and increase productivity. The talk will also highlight the biggest benefit for an onsite health center is peace of mind for your employees. It shows the employer is listening to its employees and is willing to make their wellness part of its culture.

Michele GranitzHead of BenefitsNATIONAL LIFE GROUP

4:45pm – 5:30pmMeasuring the Improvement and Performance of Your On-Site Health Center

An onsite clinic can be a strategic population health strategy for your employees and reduce overall healthcare costs; but it’s also a significant investment. How do you know if the clinic is working? It’s important to know how to measure the effectiveness of a clinic and the impact on your organization. This session will talk about ways to measure the success on an onsite clinic such as the reduction of inappropriate ER visits, increased employee engagement, medical spend reduction and patient satisfaction. If done right and measured, it can improve the health of your employees and the health of your organization’s bottom line.

11:00am – 11:45amEmployee Engagement Strategies to Increase Utilization of On-Site Health Centers

All good things take time and trust. Is this always true? An onsite clinic can generate excitement and apprehension at the same time – how do you address each of these, while building momentum for an effective onsite clinic. This session will highlight some effective ways to fully engage your employees with the clinic team and services offered, even prior to opening. There are ways to create buy in and accountability for the success of a clinic

with employees, families, and your partners. It is also very important to create an ongoing experience that represents your organization’s culture, while meeting and/or exceeding your leadership team’s expectations with regard to employee wellness, financials, and other important measures. After all, what gets measured, gets attention! Identifying what’s most important to the organization and its employees, while setting clear expectations and delivering on them consistently will create an environment for greater utilization and ultimately improved health and well-being for your most important asset – your employees!

11:45am – 12:30pmFactors to Consider When Selecting an On-Site Clinic Vendor

Whether you are new to considering an on-site health clinic or re-evaluating your current vendor services, this session will cover key aspects of the vendor relationship. A customized fit to your population, aligned goals, accurate reporting, service flexibility and delivering a strong ROI are all key questions to be covered. Are you asking the right questions? This talk will discuss best practices when working with an onsite clinic vendor.

12:30pm Conference Concludes

Comprehensive health care for your employees should produce a sustained outcome that includes improved health status, enhanced wellbeing, and coordinated care resulting in reduction of overall cost. With the addition of an integrated on-site health center, your employees will ideally have care coordination between their primary care providers, preventive care, wellness programs, lab services, physical therapy, occupational health, pharmacy, and potentially dental and vision services. Linked through one electronic health record, the provider will be able to see the wholistic view of a person’s health history and assess the complete picture of their treatment plan.

The employer must make decisions about how to best create solutions for the rising healthcare costs, and on-site clinics have become a popular answer to this challenge. There are several models an employer will need to understand to determine what will be best for their population. Complicating this decision are the realities of a post pandemic world. Fewer people are expected to return to a physical

worksite location. Does that mean the worksite healthcare center is in jeopardy of downsizing their services too? We are seeing the effects of the post pandemic shifts in the marketplace, and this webinar will address some of those challenges.

If an on-site or near-site location is considered the best option, there are several management models to consider. An employer may decide to operate a health center; hiring the staff internally. However, most employers don’t want to take on the compliance, staffing, administration, and billing tasks associated with clinic operations, and choose instead to outsource these services. The vast majority of employer-sponsored clinics are contracted out to third-party vendors. This may be with companies who manage health centers as their line of business, or hospitals or physician groups, who hire their own clinic and administrative staffs. Some hospital systems operate the health center as an outpatient clinic, using the primary care management model similar to their healthcare system’s existing outpatient clinics.

An increasing number of employers are participating in shared, multi-employer clinics, located either at one employer’s worksite or in a geographically-neutral location. Other models include companies who have set up pre-established, “concierge” clinics, contracting directly with employers. In this model, the vendor will have existing clinics and solicit employers to utilize their clinic in a specified geographic area.

This workshop will help you determine which health center model is right for your organization, as well as how to:• Communicate with employees to increase or

maintain engagement• Effectively choose the right primary care provider

or participate in the provider selection process• Establish center oversight• Create multi-year strategy and policy direction
