♡ SPEAKING FROM THE HEART ♡

We spend so much of our time and energy trying to fortify ourselves with a wholesome, healthy and nutritional diet, that we sometimes overlook an obvious source of nourishment. What about the feeding of our heart and soul? As we enjoy the warmth of summer surrounded by the beauty of nature’s bounty and the preciousness of genuine loving people, take in some peaceful quiet moments of joy. The best nourishment of all is the happiness which is derived through the give and take of a shared relationship. The smallest, most unexpected and spontaneous events are very often the times that stand out as unique and special in our hearts and mind. Did you see that exquisite rainbow that spanned the still gray sky? Its brightness and color vibrantly spoke of gallant hope and a fulfilling promise when all else appeared bleak and dismal. What about that quiet, hot sticky night when your granddaughter softly approached you, ice cream cone in-hand, to sit with you and slowly begin talking about the stuff of her life and share an occasional lick of the ice cream. These moments………….in solitude or in the company of a loved one… are the epitome of peace, contentment and pure joy! Take in the beauty of these precious times. In the beautiful emotional garden of life, we can readily choose from among the sturdy buds of faith, the bright and colorful flowers of love and joy, and the sacred seeds of hope. Nourish yourself on the fruits of your investments – on the relationships which you have cultivated over a lifetime. Feed on the support, encouragement and love that blossom around you in the words and arms of those significant individuals in your life. Celebrate this moment in time – it will not come again. Pause and give thanks for the opportunity to experience another memory in the making. Slowly peel away the layers of complexity to reach the core of your unblemished beauty and revel in the simple pleasures that await your engagement. Life presents us with many struggles, pleasures, questions, doubts and possibilities. The dreams of peacefulness and joy are real and attainable when our heart is open and accepting. Let’s join together on Thursday, July 19th to learn and commemorate

Bastille Day which symbolizes the end of the monarchy and the beginning of

the democratic republic of France. “Vive la France!” Let’s talk about what freedom and independence

mean to us on both a national level and a personal level and then indulge

in some rich and delicious French inspired desserts.

A MESSAGE FROM THE ADVISORY BOARD

After the Advisory Board’s business discussions, we spoke about the suggestions to the board which were left in the suggestion box across from Betty’s office. We spoke about the success of the recent trips and discussed upcoming trips as well. Marian oversaw the meeting and was able to give us good input. Any member with trip ideas please speak with Olivia or Marci. Menu ideas can be brought to Marian. We spoke about the rest rooms and dining room being left a mess by members. We are not here to teach anyone how to be housekeepers, just to suggest that everyone please pick up whatever you personally drop. Also, those physically able please empty your trays in the garbage and return your trays. Misunderstandings have occurred during breakfast and lunch also. Please do not reach for the items on the table. The volunteers wear gloves and are able to help you. If you need extra sugar, salt, pepper, please ask. You will usually be accommodated. The board members voted not to have a July meeting. If you have anything you would like to discuss, please see a board member and they will be happy to get an answer for you. The sunshine club consisting of Denise and Winnie are doing a wonderful job. Anyone who has get well, sympathy or thinking of you cards that they are not using, the ladies will be happy to accept them. They also need to know when a table mate is absent so share your information with them please. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping the center litter free.

DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE

As the thermostat increases, new opportunities to embrace the outdoors arise. I encourage you to take some extra time during your day to enjoy the beautiful weather. Check out Marci’s Daytrips, or participate in Olivia’s Outdoor Chair Yoga. We even have a great Walking Club that will encourage you to exercise with the additional benefit of taking in some fresh air. Research shows that engaging in outside activities helps lift your spirits and increase Vitamin D intake. Furthermore, as always we will have our July 4th celebration BBQ. This year it will be held on Tuesday, July 3rd, as we are closed Wednesday for the 4th. Additionally, this Fourth of July marks the 242nd annual celebration of the United States Deceleration of Independence. Across the United States families and friends congregate together with picnics, barbecues, parades and of course fireworks. Regardless of how you choose to spend your Independence Day, do it with the ones you love in a positive environment!

All the best,

Nina Bhola

PLEASE REMEMBER SNAP IN YOUR WILL OR TRUST

There are many ways to give to charity and good causes. Bequests can serve as a memorial to honor the memory of a loved one, or establish a fund for a particular aspect of SNAP. Bequests are often a final communication one has with descendants, a way of demonstrating your values and setting an example for your heirs.

A planned gift or bequest to SNAP helps you to determine your legacy in a truly meaningful way and have a profound impact on the future of the organization. Please remember SNAP so that we can continue to provide important services to others in our community.
