Waste Handling Features

The waste handler has been designedwith many benefit adding featuresto enhance its performance in wasteapplications. pg. 7

Heavy-Duty Boom and Stick. The heavyduty reach boom and heavy duty 3.2 m(10.5 ft) stick are more robust thanthe standard reach boom and stick.The “heavy-duty” features include thickerplates throughout the design to handlethe increased loading experienced intransfer station applications.

The front linkage has a maximumhorizontal reach of 9.4 m (31 ft) andmaximum vertical pin height of 8.8 m(29 ft). Thus, the working range of themachine provides an excellent matchfor loading hauling units from aplatform or from level ground.

Welded Box-Section Structures.The boom and stick are designedand built for maximum durability andperformance. Efficient design of weldedbox-section structures with thick, multi-plate fabrications and internal baffleplates in high stress areas maximizesstrength and durability required for theloading conditions of transfer stationsand demolition applications.

Stress Relieved Boom and Stick.The boom and stick are stress relievedto maximize the strength of the weldjoints. The process of stress relievingalso allows for the structure weightto be minimized, allowing heavierpayload capacity.

Front LinkageThe 330D MH Waste Handler front linkage is designed to provide the excellent reach anddurability necessary to meet the requirements of transfer station and demolition applications.

Heavy-Duty Upper Frame. Upper box-section reinforcement on the upper frameprovide additional strength for improveddurability.

Horizontal mounting plate providesmore surface area for swing drive andswing bearing mounting bolts to handleincreased loading.

The heavy-duty upper frame has manyspecifically designed features for addedstrength and improved durability in wastehandling applications. It is composedof higher strength material and thickersteel sections to handle the increasedloading activity seen in waste transferstations and demolition applications.

Boom tower double plates add thicksteel reinforcements to handle the greaterstresses caused by increased loading.

Box-section cylinder mounts allow forimproved resistance against increasedtorsional loads and payloads.

Waste Handler StructuresThe 330D MH Waste Handler has many structural components that add strengthto the machine to improve its durability.

Rubber Bumpers. The rubber bumpersprovide much needed guarding to protectthe sheet metal of the machine frombeing damaged while maneuveringin tight areas.

Swivel Guard. The swivel guard, designedspecifically for waste applications,protects the swivel from the wrappingof debris. This will allow more uptimethrough the decrease in maintenanceassociated with removing video tapeand wire from the swivel.

Swing Bearing Guard. The swing bearingguard is a bolt on guard that protectsthe swing bearing from any damage byshielding it from any potential sourcesof wrapping such as video tapes andwire. It also prevents packing of debrisaround the swing bearing.

Falling Object Guards. The optionalfalling object guard protects the caband front windshield from debrisin transfer stations.

Waste Handler GuardingThe 330D MH Waste Handler is equipped with special guarding, designed specificallyfor the challenges faced in waste handling and demolition applications.

Trash Resistant Cooling System.A Trash Resistant Cooling arrangementreduces cooling system maintenance anddowntime when operating in environmentswith large amounts of airborne debrissuch as feeding shredders in scrapapplications, waste transfer stations,demolition and forestry applications.This package will also help avoidcostly engine and hydraulic repairs anddowntime resulting from overheatingcaused by a plugged cooling system.This arrangement is standard on the330D MH Waste Handler.

Trash Resistant Cooling Features.

• Debris Filters – These stainless steelmesh filters trap debris before it entersthe house, keeping it out of theradiator and oil cooler. These filterscan be easily removed and cleaned.A second set of filters minimizesdowntime, allowing the operatorto keep working while the first setis cleaned.

• Hydraulic Automatic Reversing Fan.

Cooling System. The cooling fan ishydraulically driven and controlledby the ECM. The optimum fan speedis calculated based on the ambienttemperature, coolant temperature andhydraulic oil temperature. This uniquefeature assists in the management ofengine power and improves noiseefficiency. The C9 delivered a completelynew layout that separates the coolingsystem from the compartment. The autoreversing fan is controlled by the ECMand is adjustable.

Heavier Counterweight. The 330D MHWaste Handler has been outfitted with acounterweight that is 25% heavier thana standard 330D L counterweight forbetter stability while handling wasteor demolition debris.

Cab Riser. The standard 2.6 m (8.5 ft)cab riser provides for elevated operatingheight to improve visibility while loadingwaste into a hauling unit and allows theoperator to see over obstructions in thetransfer station.

Turbine Precleaner. The standard turbineprecleaner helps keep debris away fromthe cooling system by removing debrisfrom the air intake.

The 330C MH Waste Handler is alsoequipped with the SyKlone Optimaxdual stage engine precleaner whichpurges remaining debris from intakeair, providing longer air filter andengine life.

SyKlone Gideon Cab Air Precleaner.This cab air precleaner extends cab airfilter life, increases operator comfortby effectively eliminating dust andodor, and keeps evaporator and heatercoils clean.

Cab Mounted Beacon. The cab mountedbeacon flashes whenever the masterdisconnect is on.

In-cab Master Disconnect. An additionalmaster disconnect switch is provided inthe cab for easier operator access.

Waste Handling FeaturesThe waste handler has been designed with many benefit adding features to enhanceits performance in waste applications.

Engine. Six-cylinder, turbochargedengine built for power, reliability, andeconomy will allow the machine toconsistently perform at high levels.The Cat® C9 engine is designed for lowemissions and will meet EPA Tier 3emissions requirements.

Performance. The 330D MH, equippedwith the C9 engine with ACERT™Technology, provides 9% morehorsepower as compared to theC9 in the 330C MH.

Electronic Control Module.The Electronic Control Module (ECM)works as the ‘brain’ of the engine’scontrol system, responding quickly tooperating variables to maximize engineefficiency. Fully integrated with sensorsin the engine’s fuel, air, coolant and

exhaust systems, the ECM stores andrelays information on conditions suchas RPM, fuel consumption anddiagnostic information.

Automatic Engine Speed Control.The two-stage, one-touch controlmaximizes fuel efficiency and reducessound levels.

ADEM™ A4 Engine Controller.The ADEM™ A4 electronic controlmodule manages fuel delivery to get thebest performance per liter of fuel used.The engine management system providesflexible fuel mapping, allowing theengine to respond quickly to varyingapplication needs. It tracks engine andmachine conditions while keeping theengine operating at peak efficiency.

Hydraulic Cross Sensing System.Improves productivity with fasterimplement speed and quick, strongpivot turns.

Fine Swing Control. Fine swing controlcushions swing start and stop for betterimplement control.

Hydraulic Cylinder Snubbers.The hydraulic cylinder snubbers atthe rod-end of the boom cylinders andboth ends of the stick cylinders cushionshock to improve cylinder life.

Trash Grapple. The Cat Work Toolstrash grapple has been designed to meetthe requirements of waste handling.Powered by the bucket cylinder, thetrash grapple mechanically works tocompact trash while placing it into thebed of the hauling unit. This helps tomaximize the amount of waste that canbe placed into one unit, maximizingefficiency.
