Fuel Consumption. With ACERTTechnology, the C13 meetsEU stage 2 emissions whiledelivering good fuel economy.

Emissions. ACERT Technology is adifferentiated technology that reducesemissions at the point of combustion.Caterpillar technology capitalized on theproven leadership in three core enginesystems: fuel, air and electronics.

Low Sound and Vibration Levels.The engine mounts are rubber-isolatingmounts matched with the engine packageto provide optimum sound and vibrationreduction. Further noise reduction hasbeen achieved through design changesto the isolated top cover, oil pan,multiple injection strategy, insulatedtiming cover, sculpted crankcase.

Fuel System. The Cat C13 featureselectronic controls that govern themechanically actuated unit fuel injection(MEUI) system. MEUI provides thehigh-pressure required to help reduceparticulate emissions and deliver betterfuel economy through finer fuelatomization and more completecombustion.

Cooling System. The 345C L layoutseparates the cooling system from theengine compartment. The cooling fanis hydraulically driven with a variablespeed control that manages fan speedto provide optimized cooling.

Air Cleaner. The radial seal air filterfeatures a double-layered filter core formore efficient filtration and is located ina compartment behind the cab. A warningis displayed on the monitor when dustaccumulates above a preset level.

Turbocharger. The Cat C13 uses awastegate turbocharger for improvedperformance.

• The wastegate valve controlsexcessive engine boost pressureby allowing exhaust to bypass theexhaust-side turbine.

• The wastegate all reduces turbinewear in high RPM, low loadconditions and optimizes air andfuel delivery for peak performance.

• The turbocharger increases thedensity of the air, enabling theengine to produce more powerwith few effects from altitude.

Cold Weather Starting Kit. The kitconsists of four batteries, heavy-dutyharness, large capacity starting motorand the ether starting aid. With this kit,the 345C L has the capability to startat 32° C (–25.6° F).

Pilot System. The hydraulic pilotsystem controls the front linkage,swing and travel operations.

Component Layout. The 345C Lhydraulic system and componentlocations have has been designedto provide a high level of overallsystem efficiency.

Hydraulic Cross-Sensing System.The two main hydraulic pumps use100 percent of available horsepowerresulting in faster implement speedsand increased productivity.

Boom and Stick Regeneration Circuit.Saves energy during boom-down andstick-in operation, providing shortercycle times and lower operating costs.

Boom and Swing Priority. The hydraulicsystem on the 345C L provides automaticpriority function for boom-up and swingoperations eliminating the need forwork mode buttons. When the boomor swing lever is activated, the systemautomatically assigns priority basedon operator demand.

Auxiliary Hydraulic Valve. The auxiliaryvalve is standard on the 345C L.Control circuits are available asattachments, allowing operationof high and medium pressure toolssuch as shears, grapples, hammers,pulverizers, multi-processors andvibratory plate compactors.

Hydraulic Cylinder Snubbers.Snubbers are located at the rod-endof the boom cylinders and both endsof the stick cylinders to cushion shockswhile reducing sound levels andextending component life.

Designed for simple, easy operation, the 345C L allows the operator to focus on production.

Operator Station

Cab Design. The workstation isspacious, quiet and comfortable,assuring high productivity during along work day. The air conditioner andattachment switches are convenientlylocated on the right-hand wall, and thekey switch and throttle dial are on theright-hand console. The monitor is easyto see and maximizes visibility.

Seat. A new optional air suspension seatis available in the 345C L. The standardand optional seats provide a variety ofadjustments to suit the operator’s sizeand weight including fore/aft, height andweight. Wide adjustable armrests and aretractable seat belt are also included.

Hydraulic Activation Control Lever.For added safety, this lever must bein the operate position to activatethe machine control functions.

Climate Control. Positive filteredventilation with a pressurized cab comesstandard on the 345C L. Fresh air orre-circulated air can be selected witha switch on the left console.

Windows. To maximize visibility,all glass is affixed directly to the cab,eliminating window frames. The upperfront windshield opens, closes and storeson the roof above the operator with aone-touch action release system.

Wipers. Pillar-mounted wipers increasethe operator’s viewing area and offercontinuous and intermittent modes.

Skylight. An enlarged skylight withsunshade provides excellent visibilityand good ventilation.

Console. Redesigned consoles featurea simple, functional design to reduceoperator fatigue, ease of switchoperation and excellent visibility.Both consoles have attached armrestswith height adjustments.

Monitor. The compact, full-color,graphical display monitor, newwith the 345C L, displays machine,maintenance, diagnostic and prognosticinformation, in twenty differentlanguages. Monitor angle can beadjusted to minimize sun glare.

Cab Exterior. The exterior design usesthick steel tubing along the bottomperimeter of the cab, improving theresistance of fatigue and vibration.This design allows the FOGS to bebolted directly to the cab, at the factoryor as an attachment later, enabling themachine to meet specifications and jobsite requirements.

Cab Mounts. The cab shell is attachedto the frame with viscous rubber cabmounts, which dampen vibrationsand sound levels while enhancingoperator comfort.

Standard Cab Equipment. To enhanceoperator comfort and productivity,the cab includes a lighter, drink holder,coat hook, service meter, literatureholder, magazine rack and storagecompartment.

Machine Security. An optional MachineSecurity System is available from thefactory on the 345C L. This systemcontrols when the machine can beoperated and utilizes specific keysto prevent unauthorized machine use,a significant theft deterrent.

Product Link. Product Link is now anattachment available from the factoryon the 345C L.

Travel Controls. The 345C L uses pilotoperated control levers, positionedso the operator can operate with armson the armrests. The vertical strokeis longer than the horizontal stroke,reducing operator fatigue. The controllever grips are shaped to fit into theoperator’s hands. The horn switch andone-touch low idle switch are positionedon the left and right grip.

Controllers. The mechanically actuatedunit injection system features a high-pressure fuel injection system,provento significantly reduce fuel consumptionand particulate emission. Electronic UnitInjection (EUI) produces high-pressureand affords the integration of electronicswith fewer components. The modulardesign of the electronic control systemallows greater update, flexibility,improves serviceability and lowersrepair costs.

Keypad. The keypad allows operatorto select machine operation conditionsand to set view preferences.

ADEM™ A4 Engine Controller.The ADEM A4 electronic controlmodule manages fuel delivery to getthe best performance per liter or gallonof fuel used. The engine managementsystem provides flexible fuel mapping,allowing the engine to respond quicklyto varying application needs. It tracksengine and machine conditions whilekeeping the engine operating atpeak efficiency.

Monitor Display Screen. The monitoris a full color 400x234 pixels LiquidCrystal Display (LCD) graphic display.

The Master Caution Lamp blinks ONand OFF when one of these criticalconditions occur:

• Engine oil pressure low

• Coolant temperature high

• Hydraulic oil temperature high

Under the normal condition or thedefault condition, the monitor displayscreen is divided into four areas:clock and throttle dial area, gauge area,event display area and multi-informationdisplay area.

Clock and Throttle Dial Area. The clockand the throttle dial position are in thisarea and the gas-station icon with greencolor is also displayed.

Gauge Area. Three analog gauges,fuel level, hydraulic oil temperatureand coolant temperature, are displayedin this area.

Event Display Area. Machine informationis displayed in this area with graphicicons plus written messages in twentydifferent languages including Czech,Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish,French, German, Greek, Icelandic,Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian,Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese,Spanish, Swedish, Thai and Turkish.

Multi-information Display Area.This area is reserved for displayinginformation that is convenient for theoperator. The “CAT” logo mark isdisplayed when information to displaydoes not exist.

Electronic Control SystemManages the engine and hydraulics for maximum performance.

Travel Motors. Two-speed axial pistonhydraulic motors provide the 345C Ldrive power and speed selection which isautomatic when the high-speed positionis selected. This enables the machineto automatically change betweencomputer-controlled high and lowspeeds depending on drawbar-pullrequirements.

Straight-line Travel Circuit. The straight-line travel circuit is incorporated intothe hydraulic system, which maintainslow-speed, straight-line travel, evenwhen operating the front linkage.

Track. The 345C L comes standard withthe new grease lubricated track calledGLT4. The track links are assembledand sealed with grease to decreaseinternal bushing wear, reduce travelnoise and extend service life loweringoperating costs.

Final Drive. The final drives are anew compact design with three-stageplanetary reduction. This design resultsin a complete drive/brake unit that iscompact and delivers excellentperformance and reliability.

Track Guards. The idler guard andbolt-on center guard are standardequipment. They help maintain trackalignment while traveling or workingon slopes. For applications that requireadditional track protection or alignment,optional guards are available.

UndercarriageDurable undercarriage absorbs stresses and provides excellent stability.

Carbody. The 345C L has threeundercarriage options to meet regionaltransportation requirements andapplication needs.

• Standard (STD) undercarriage is wellsuited for applications that requirefrequent repositioning of the machine,have restricted working space, orhave uneven or rocky terrain.

• Fixed gauge for narrow transportand weight sensitive areas.

• Variable gauge for increasedtrack and ground clearance andover-side lift.

Track Roller Frame. Fixed GaugeUndercarriage

• Uses a press-formed, pentagonalsection for the track frame that isrobot-welded for weld consistencyand quality. The track frame has beendesigned so that the top of the trackframe has a steep angle to help preventaccumulation of mud and debris.

Variable Gauge Undercarriage

• The track roller frame is made ofthick steel plate that is bent into aU-shape and welded to the bottomplate to create a box structure.The box structure design for increasedrigidity and impact resistance.

Upper Frame. The rugged main framehas been narrowed to improvetransportability and is designed formaximum durability. Robot weldingis used for consistent, high-qualitywelds. The main channels are boxsections connected by a large diametertube in the boom foot area to improverigidity and strength. The outer frameutilizes curved side rails for rigidityagainst bending and torsional loads.

StructuresThe 345C L structural components are the backbone of the machine’s durability.

Front Linkage Attachments.Three length of booms and six typesof sticks are available, offering a rangeof configurations suitable for a widevariety of application conditions.

Boom Construction. The 345C L boomshave large cross-sections and internalbaffle plates to provide long lifedurability. Forged steel is used incritical high-load areas such as theboom-foot and boom cylinder connection.

Long Reach Boom – 7.4 m (23 ft 3 in)long. The Long Reach boom is newwith the introduction of the 345C L.This boom combined with the new4.3 m (14 ft 1 in) stick provides a similardigging envelope to the previous 345B.This new boom/stick combination hasa significantly reduced transport height,eliminating the need to remove thestick cylinder pin.

Reach Boom – 6.9 m (22 ft 8 in) long.The Reach boom is designed to balancereach, digging force bucket capacity,offering a wide range of applicationsas digging, loading and trenching.

Mass Excavation Boom – 6.55 m(21 ft 6 in) long. The mass boom isdesigned to provide maximum diggingforces, bucket capacity and truck loadingproductivity. The mass boom comeswith two stick options for further jobsite versatility.

Stick Construction. The 345C L sticksare made of high-tensile strength steel,using a large box section design,interior baffle plates and an additionalbottom guard.

Linkage Pins. The bucket linkage pinshave been enlarged and have a thickchrome plating improving reliability,durability, giving them high wear andcorrosion resistance. An adapter kit isavailable for using 345B II buckets.

Power Link. The new 345C L powerlink improves durability, increasesmachine-lifting capability in key liftingpositions, and is easier to use comparedto the previous lift bar design.

Boom, Sticks and AttachmentsDesigned for maximum flexibility to keep productivity and efficiency high on all jobs.

Excavation Buckets. Excavation bucketsare designed for general purposeexcavation, ranging from low ormedium friction soft earth to hard earth.The bucket is designed with a largebucket capacity and tip radius.

Extreme Service Excavation Buckets.These buckets are designed foraggressive bucket loading and diggingin abrasive materials. Features include:

• Provides the same wear life asnon-extreme service buckets thatare used in less abrasive, easy todig materials.

• Has the same profile as the normalexcavation bucket.

• Reinforced with thicker materialsfor greater wear protection.

V-Type Excavation Buckets. The V-typeexcavation buckets have a V or spadetype cutting edge. This greatly improvespenetration in materials that are hard ordifficult to load.

Mass Excavation Buckets.Large capacity for production truckloading in low-impact, moderatelyabrasive materials such as dirt, loam,gravel and clay.

Service Life. Caterpillar buckets increaseservice life and reduce repair costs.

• Dual radius design for increased lifeand reduced wear.

• Robot welding of hinge assemblyfor increased weld penetration andlonger life.

• Incorporates the new aggressiveand easier to install, K GET system.

• High strength and heat-treated steelthat exceeds T-1 in high wear areas.

Caterpillar Ground Engaging Tools (GET).The new Caterpillar K-series GET isfeatured on the new 345C L buckets.This new GET system uses a hammerlessvertical retainer, which is easier to removeand install than the old Cat J-series pin.The new tooth shapes are moreaggressive and offer excellent penetration.There are a variety of side cutters andsidebar protectors to match operatingconditions.

• A new sidecutter design is moreaggressive in trenching applications,improving efficiency and bucketpayload.

Tool Control System. The optional toolcontrol system maximizes work toolproductivity by configuring hydraulicflow, pressure, and operator controlsto match a specific work tool.System versatility enables a widerange of tools to be used.
