Mechanical Power Train. The Catmechanical drive power train and powershift transmission provides unmatchedoperating efficiency and control onsteep grades, in poor underfootconditions, and on haul roads withhigh rolling resistance.Transmission. Pairing the Caterpillarseven-speed planetary power shifttransmission with the C27 diesel enginewith ACERT Technology deliversconstant power over a wide range ofoperating speeds.• Transmission Chassis Control (TCC).TCC uses electronically transferredengine rpm data to execute shifts atpreset points for optimum performance,efficiency and clutch life.Lock-Up Torque Converter. Combinesmaximum rimpull and cushioned shiftingof torque converter drive with theefficiency and performance of directdrive. The lock-up torque converterengages at approximately 8 km/h (5 mph),delivering more power to the wheels.• Lock-Up Clutch. Quickly releases andre-engages to reduce power train torqueloads for smoother shifting, long lifeand a more comfortable ride.• ECPC (Electronic Clutch PressureControl) System. ECPC modulatesclutch engagement individually, allowingfor smoother speed and directionalshifts. ECPC provides controls for boththe torque converter lock-up clutch andthe transmission clutches that are tailoredto each particular upshift or downshift.This provides the operator a superiorride and reduced fatigue.

• Battery Powered SupplementalSteering.A battery powered supplementalsteering system uses pressureaccumulators and allows up to three90 degree turns in case of engine failure.• Wheels and Rims. Cast rear wheelsand Cat center-mount rims are mountedusing studs and nuts to minimizemaintenance and maximize durability.

Power Train – TransmissionCat power train delivers more power to the ground for greater productivity and loweroperating costs.

Box-Section Design. The 775F frameuses a box-section design, incorporatingtwo forgings and 19 castings in high-stress areas with deep penetrating andcontinuous wrap-around welds to resistdamage from twisting loads withoutadding extra weight.• Steel Structures.Mild steel usedthroughout the frame provides flexibility,durability and resistance to impactloads, even in cold climates, and allowsfor easy field repairs.• Castings. Castings have large radii withinternal reinforcing ribs to dissipate stressin areas of high stress concentration.Castings move welds to lower stressareas for greater frame life.

Integral Four-Post ROPS Cab.Resiliently mounted to the main framewith all-new cab mounts that reducevibration and sound, the integral ROPSis designed as an extension of the truckframe. The ROPS/FOPS structureprovides “five-sided protection” for theoperator.Suspension System. Designed todissipate haul-road and loading impactsfor longer frame life and a morecomfortable ride.• Cylinders. Four independent self-contained, oil pneumatic, variable-rebound suspension cylinders aredesigned to absorb shocks in the mostsevere applications.• Durable Design. Rugged cylinders usea large diameter bore and low pressurenitrogen/oil design for long life withminimal maintenance.

– Front. Front cylinders with presetcaster and camber are mounted to theframe and serve as steering kingpins fora tight turning radius with excellentmaneuverability and low maintenance.– Rear. Rear cylinders allow axleoscillation and absorb bending andtwisting stresses caused by uneven andrough haul roads rather than transmittingthem to the frame.Technology Enhanced. Caterpillarstructures are tested using SystemStructural Analysis (SSA) to dynamicallysimulate operations in field environmentsand identify potential structuralimprovements in high stress areas.With analysis of machine structures andvariables, such as haul road and payload,structural improvements were made tothe frame to accommodate the new cab,platform, engine and radiator.Quality Control.A Coordinate MeasuringMachine (CMM) is used to inspecttruck frames for consistency in themanufacturing process. Easy rebuildability is thereby achieved by ensuringthe frames are within tolerance, removingthe need to alter down-stream parts.

Ergonomic Layout. The 775F operatorstation is ergonomically designed fortotal machine control in a comfortable,productive and safe environment.All controls, levers, switches andgauges are positioned to maximizeproductivity and minimizeoperator fatigue.New ISO Designed Cab Mounts.Integral, sound-suppressed cab isresiliently mounted to the frame toisolate the operator from sound andvibration for a quiet, secure andcomfortable ride.Viewing Area. Designed for excellentall-around visibility and clear sight linesto the haul road. The large viewing area,with 100 percent more glass, enables theoperator to maneuver with confidence forgreater productivity.Air Suspension Seat w/Three-PointOperator Restraint. Ergonomicallydesigned, fully adjustable air suspensionseat with adjustable armrests providesoptimal driving comfort. A wide,retractable 3-point seat/shoulder beltprovides a secure, comfortable restraint.Hoist Lever. Four-position, low effortelectronic hoist control system ispositioned next to the gear selectorin the right-hand console.Secondary Brake Pedal. Convenientlylocated on the floor for easy operatorcontrol.Steering Column. Comfortable steeringwheel with tilt and telescoping functionprovides a comfortable driving positionfor all operators.Transmission Console. Ergonomic gearshift lever with backlit gear indicatorsprovides easy operation. The parkingbrake function is integrated into thegear selector.Trainer Seat. The trainer seat is relocatedto the left of the operator, which allowstrainer to use same stairway.

When not in use, the fold-down trainerseat creates a working surface with cupholder. The seat also folds up, providingmore room for the operator. Under seatstorage is convenient for stowing alunch box.Operator Controls. Easy to reach turnsignal, high beam, intermittent windshieldwiper and windshield washer controlsare located on the left side of the steeringcolumn, and are designed for optimumefficiency and comfort.Heating/Air Conditioning. Electronicallycontrolled, four-speed fan and 13 ventsdeliver temperature-controlled aircirculation for a comfortable workingenvironment in any climate. Electroniccontrols reduce maintenance. More robustair compressor offers a 25 percentincrease in BTU’s, greater durabilityand longer life.

Radio Ready. Cab is prewired withpower converter, speakers, wiringharness, antenna and necessities foradd-on communication systems.Multiple Power Ports. Power ports areconveniently located in three locationsin the cab: one in the right-handconsole, two behind the trainer seat,and one in the dash.Truck Production Management System(TPMS) (optional). TPMS providesvaluable payload and cycle time data,which is viewed through Messenger orVIMS Advisor to improve productivity.

Cat Data Link. Electronically integratesmachine computer systems to optimizeoverall power train performance,increase reliability and component life,and reduce operating costs. All controlmodules communicate via the Cat DataLink and work together as an integratedsystem to maximize productionefficiency and extend component life.Transmission Chassis Control (TCC).TCC uses electronically transferredengine rpm data to execute shifts atpreset points for optimum performance,efficiency and clutch life.Electronic Technician (Cat ET). Cat ETservice tool provides service technicianswith easy access to stored diagnosticdata through the Cat Data Link to simplifyproblem diagnosis and increasemachine availability.

Controlled Throttle Shifting. Regulatesengine rpm during shifting to reducepower train stress and clutch wear bycontrolling engine speed, torque converterlock-up, and transmission clutchengagement for smoother shifts andlonger component life.Directional Shift Management.Regulates engine speed during directionalshifts to prevent damage caused byhigh-speed directional changes.Neutral Coast Inhibitor. Prevents thetransmission from shifting to neutralat speeds above 6.5 km/h (4 mph),protecting the transmission fromoperating with insufficient lubrication.

Body-up Shift Limiter. Prevents thetransmission from shifting above apre-programmed gear without the bodybeing fully lowered. This function isprogrammable via Cat ElectronicTechnician (Cat ET) and Messengeror Advisor.Body-up Reverse Neutralizer.Automatically shifts the transmissionto neutral if the hoist lever is activatedwhile the transmission is shiftedin reverse.Overspeed Protection. The transmissioncontrol electronically senses engineconditions and automatically up-shiftsone gear to prevent overspeeding.If overspeeding occurs in the top gear,the lock-up clutch is disengaged, andthe brakes are applied.

Programmable Top Gear. Transmissiontop gear maximum can be set usingCat Messenger, VIMS Advisor or theCat ET service tool to help the operatormaintain speed limits.Anti-Hunt Function. This functionminimizes shifting by not allowingthe transmission to up or down shiftimmediately after a shift has occurred.This prevents gear hunting whenoperating near a shift point and minimizestransmission shifting for increasedcomponent life.

Downshift Inhibitor. Prevents engineoverspeeding by keeping the transmissionfrom downshifting until engine speedreaches the downshift point.ECPC Control. Both the torque converterlock-up clutch and the transmissionclutches now have software-controlfor clutch fill and slip characteristicsto provide superior smooth shifting.Economy Shift Mode.Modifies enginemaps for greater fuel economy.Reverse Shift Inhibitor. Protects theengine from abrupt directional changesby slowing down the engine beforeshifting the transmission into reverse.

Cat Messenger. Critical data from theengine and transmission, includingtransmission shifting, engine speedand fuel consumption, provides servicetechnicians with enhanced diagnosticcapability, through Cat Messenger,to reduce downtime and operating costs.Traction Control System (TCS)(optional). TCS electronically monitorsand controls rear wheel slippage forgreater traction and enhanced truckperformance in poor underfoot conditions.

Integrated Braking System. The Catoil-cooled braking system deliversreliable performance and control inthe most extreme haul-road conditions.The integrated system combines theservice, secondary, parking brake andretarding functions in the same systemfor optimum braking efficiency.Oil-Cooled Multiple Disc Brakes.Cat dry front and rear oil-cooled,multiple disc brakes are nowhydraulically controlled, reducingmaintenance costs.The 775F brakes provide exceptional,fade-resistant braking and retarding formaximum performance and productivityin all haul-road conditions.

Extended Life Multiple Disc Brakes(optional). Extended life frictionmaterial has double the wear life ofstandard brakes and is twice as resistantto glazing for more consistent brakingpower with less noise.Brake Design. Cat rear oil-cooled discbrakes are designed with large discsand plates for reliable, adjustment-freeoperation and performance. Rear brakesare completely enclosed and sealed toprevent contamination and reducemaintenance.

Long Life. An oil film prevents directcontact between the discs. This designabsorbs the braking forces by shearingthe oil molecules and carrying heataway to extend brake life.Pistons. The Caterpillar two-piece pistondesign combines the service, secondary,parking brake and retarding functionsin the same system. The primary pistonhydraulically actuates both service andretarding functions. The secondarypiston is spring-applied and held inthe disengaged position by hydraulicpressure. If hydraulic system pressuredrops below a specified level, thespring-applied secondary pistonautomatically applies the brakes.Parking Brake. Oil-cooled, spring-applied, hydraulically released parkingbrake is applied to the rear wheels forsuperior parking capability on all gradesup to 15 percent.

Brake System

Automatic Retarder Control (ARC).Standard ARC electronically controlsbraking on grade to maintain engine atapproximately 1,900 rpm (adjustablefrom 1,850-1,950 rpm in incrementsof 10). ARC is deactivated when theoperator applies the brakes or throttle.

• Faster Speeds. ARC allows theoperator to maintain optimum enginespeeds for up to 15 percent fasterdownhill hauls and greater productivity.

• Superior Control. Automatic brakemodulation offers a smoother ride andbetter control in slippery conditions,allowing the operator to concentrateon driving.• Ease of Operation. ARC increasesoperating ease, resulting in greateroperator confidence with less fatigue.• Engine Overspeed Protection.Automatically activates ARC whenengine speed exceeds factory presetlevels, regardless of operator inputs,to avoid potentially damaging engineoverspeeds.

Traction Control System (TCS)(optional). Electronically monitorsand controls rear wheel slippage forgreater traction and enhanced truckperformance in poor underfootconditions. If slippage exceeds a setlimit, the oil-cooled disc brakes engageto slow the spinning wheel. Torque isthen automatically transferred to thewheel with better traction.Differential Action. Normal differentialaction provides superior maneuveringand control in slippery conditions.Compression Brake (optional). OptionalCompression Brake is integrated withAutomatic Retarder Control (ARC) toprovide up to 35 percent higher downhilltravel speed and reduce wear on brakecomponents.

Body Selection. Selection of the rightbody system depends on material andhaul road conditions. The better thematch of body to application, the greaterthe efficiency. Fast Hoist Cycle Times. Two-stage hoistcylinders provide fast dump cycle timesof 9.5 seconds for raise and 12.5 secondsfor lower.Body Liners. Two liner materials, steeland rubber, are available to help extendbody system life. All steel liner wearsurfaces are equipped with 400 BHNsteel to handle tough impact loads whileresisting abrasion. Optional rubber linersdeliver long life in high-wear and high-impact areas as well as increases operatorcomfort during loading.

Body Design. Caterpillar offers three dualslope and five flat floor body optionsto meet your needs. Dual slope and flatfloor body offerings are available inthree steel configurations and two rubberconfigurations. A quarry body optionis also available and is intended forlow-abrasion, limestone applications.Dual slope and flat floor body systemsuse fully fabricated, mild steel structures,offering a strong and weldable underbodystructure. All interior, steel body surfacesthat come in contact with material arefabricated from 400 BHN steel to providesuperior wear characteristics andresistance to impact. Wide box-sectionribs provide excellent durability andimpact support in the floor, front-wall,sidewall, and top rail areas. Full-lengthstringer rails enhance strength andrigidity throughout the body. Other newfeatures that further enhance durabilityof the understructure include:• The body sidewall ties directly in

with the floor, providing increasedstrength in the sidewalls.

• Thickness of ribs increased to10 mm and the number of floor ribshave been increased from 7 to a totalof 9 ribs.

• Front wall body rest supports areintegrated into the front wall structurefor enhanced durability.

• Front wall is 400 BHN and thethickness is increased from 10.2 mm(0.4 in) to 16.0 mm (0.63 in),eliminating the need for additionalliners for impact resistance in mostapplications.

Safety is an integral partof all machine and systems designs.Integral ROPS Cab. Resiliently mountedto the frame to reduce vibration andsound, the integral ROPS structure,which provides “five-sided protection”for the operator, is designed as anextension of the truck frame.Payload Guidelines. Safety is integralto maintaining the highest productivityin mining machine operation.The Caterpillar 10/10/20 PayloadGuidelines ensures that steering andbraking systems have sufficientcapacity to perform.WAVS Camera (optional). An optionalrear vision camera system providesvisibility to the rear of the machinethrough an LCD monitor in the cab.The monitor can be set to activate onlywhen the truck is in reverse, and thedisplay is equipped with a sensor todetect ambient light, which automaticallybrightens or dims the display.High Intensity Discharge (HID) Lights(optional).
