    5 - x-ray doors:

    We use it in:

    1. X-ray room:When the targeted X-ray beam hits the human

body, a small amount of the beam is deflectedby the body and scatters outwards, hitting thewalls, floor, ceiling and door of the X-ray room.

It is this small amount of X-ray that we help tocontain using our X-ray doors.

    2. CT scan room:The 3-D computer image of the body is built up by taking multiple X-rays at incremental steps. The image is

then viewed on a computer screen.

Like the simple X-ray machine, the X-ray beams direction are known and easily absorbed. Some scatter stilloccurs and has to be contained.

    3. Radio-therapy room; The radio therapy room is used for the treatment of patients. Radio therapy is the use of X-rays and similar

rays to treat disease. The X-rays are targeted at the treated area in short bursts over a number of days.

We would recommend one of two makes of operators that are suitable to fittingto side hinged garage doors with the addition of swing arm conversion kit.

The swing arms attach to the door leaves around 1 inches below the top ofthe leaf so the arms sit just below the door stays. They are attached to the trolleythat runs along the boom, pushing and pull ing the door leaves open. The boombracket is fitted flush with the bottom of the head frame, just above the doorstop. Each door leaf can open to around 115% assuming that opening could beachieved manually

The security that the electric operator offers is excellent. The spring arrangementin the leading arm combines with the force of the secondary arm to create avery strong closing.

If your side hinged doors are either timber or steel there should be not be aproblem attaching the swing arm plate to the door leaf.

The electric motor, hydraulic pump and internal rack-and-pinion transmissionsystem are compactly housed in a single block in anodized aluminum. The motorunit is mounted to the inside face of the lintel just above the top of the door usinga specially fabricated mounting bracket. As the pinion rotates the door leaf isopened and closed by means of a telescopic arm which ensures an even andperfectly linear movement.

Up and over one piece garage doors come in two forms known either as retractable or canopy, and the type ofmotorization kit required will be dependent on which of these two options your door is.

A retractable up and over garage door has l ifting springs at the side and horizontal guides in which rollers are guidedand the door is supported at its four corners during the entire opening and closing motion. This leads to a very smoothand resistance free operation and this in turn means that these retractable doors only require a motor and a belt orchain mechanism to open and close them.

The complete retractable motorized system can be fitted in a couple of hours with a simple tool kit,

and manual adjustments are kept to a minimum by electronics that recognize the doors openingcharacteristic and accommodate to them.

A canopy garage door uses a torsion spring above the door paneland vertical guides at the sides for the door rollers and it does nothave four constant points of transition contact like a retractable door. This results in canopy doors having a less sophisticated movement thana retractable door and in turn means that they require a much morecomplex and potentially expensive conversion kit.

They are called sectional garage doors as they open and close inseparated individual panel sections, Operating vertically without anyswing out from the structural opening and tracking mechanism at all.Because of this operation almost any shape of garageopening can be installed to, i.e. arched, angled corners, etc.Unusual shaped openings do not cause a problem with a sectionalgarage door.

Sectional garage doors will make full use of the space in front of or behindyour garage opening as they all open vertically. This mechanism is ideal for

shorter driveways, garages next to pathways and internal space problemswith higher 4 x 4 and taller vehicles.

The spring system will provide better and smoother assistance

during operation and will be particularly useful on larger sized doors. Allsectional garage doors can be either manual or remote controloperated and in either case are very smooth and quiet because ofexcellent construction and design elements.

There are 3 main materials for the sectional door panelconstruction:

    1. Galvanized Steel2. Timber - hardwood or softwood3. GRP (fiberglass)

All insulated sectional garagedoors are foam filled, doubleskinned galvanized steel panelconstruction NOT single skin panels with polystyrene stuck to the

    inside face.

Sectional garage doors have a varied choice of either torsion or

tension spring mechanisms. The spring position can be either sidemounted tension, front mounted torsion, rear mounted torsion orhorizontal inside track mounted tension.

Each different option requires a slightly different headroomrequirement and the important structural fixing points vary forinstalling the springs and tracks.

Silvelox garage doors are all built entirely intimber and characterized by a particular buildingtechnique that ensures solidity, non-deformabilityand elegance. Stringent quality control standards, outstanding traditionalcraftsmanship, and timber of the highest grade combine to produce possibly one ofthe worlds finest garage doors.

The 80mm thick modular main door panel provides effectiveinsulation and acoustic properties. The range of styles, timber typesand factory finishes set the doors apart from all others.

The unique pedestrian door option allowing access withoutopening the entire garage door is a highly desirable and practicalsolution that does not compromise the visual appearance of anyof the door designs available. Simply turn the garage door handlein the opposite direction and you have a pedestrian door with athreshold as low as technically possible.

    Applications:

It is used in all types of industrial and commercial fields that needsa cold storage

    Components:

It is composed of two metal sheets plated with electrostatic(to avoid rust) , between them a layer of polystyrene (2-5cm

Definition:Fire-resisting doors are vital to ensure occupants are able to evacuate to a safe place.Specified and installed doors will hold back fire and smoke, preventing escape routesbecoming unusable as well as preventing the spread of fire, These will give some limitedprotection against fire spread, but only a purpose-built fire-resisting door that has beentested to an approved standard will provide the necessary protection. The level ofprotection provided by the door is measured, primarily by determining the time taken for afire to breach the integrity of the door assembly, some standard ratings include 20-90minute doors, together with its resistance to the passage of hot gases and flame. It may be

possible to upgrade the fire resistance of existing doors

    Components

Fire doors may be made of a combination of materials, such as

    timbersteelgypsum (as an endothermic fill)

    vermiculite-boardsglass sections

Edges of a fire door usually need to have fire

rated seals which can be composed of:

An intumescent strip, which expands when exposed to heat

    Neoprene weather-stripping

Gaskets to prevent the passage of smoke

  • 8/9/2019 Special Doors

    111/130

Some fire doors are equipped with internal windows which must remain intact under fire conditionsand hose stream impact resistance, and can include:

    Wire mesh glass

Liquid sodium silicate fills between two window panes

    Ceramic glasses

    Borosilicate glass

Wired glass typically withstands the fire, whereas the sodium silicate liquid

also acts to insulate heat transfer, due to the endothermic action of this chemical.

    Door handles:

They should be chosen so that they give security but do not allow tenants to be locked out of their lettings

by the action of the self closers. For this reason, the best design is a simple mortice lock and door handleswhich require a key to lock the door, but the inside has a thumb turn instead of a key. This means that theoccupant can escape from the room in an emergency without relying on a key. A Rim lock with a rollerball

    is also acceptable.

  • 8/9/2019 Special Doors

    112/130

Installation:As well as ensuring the door is hung properly and squarely, it is also veryimportant that where a fire door is installed, any gaps left in the openingbetween the wall and the door frame must be properly filled with fire resistingmaterial. Fire doors are normally installed by a carpenter.

Most fire doors are designed to be kept closed at all times. Some doors aredesigned to stay open under normal circumstances, and close automaticallyin the event of a fire. Whichever method is used, the door's movement shouldnever be impaired by a doorstop or other obstacle. Some fire doors are heldopen with an electromagnet, which may be wired to a fire alarm system. If thepower fails or the fire alarm is activated, the coil is de-energized and the doorcloses on its own.

    Definition:

A revolving door typically consists of three or four doors that hang on a

center shaft and rotate around a vertical axis within a round enclosure.Revolving doors are energy efficient in as much as they prevent drafts, thuspreventing increases in the heating or cooling required for the building. Atthe same time, revolving doors allow large numbers of people to pass inand out.

Specifications:Around the center shaft of the revolving door there are usually three orfour doors called "wings" or "leaves." Large diameter revolving doorscan accommodate strollers and luggage racks. The tallest revolvingdoor currently is approximately 16 feet (4.9 m) high with 4 wings. Theglass doors allow people to see and anticipate each other whilepassing through the door.

Classification: Manual revolving doors rotate with push bars causing all wings to rotate.

Revolving doors typically have a "speed control" (governor) to preventpeople from spinning the doors too fast.

Automatic revolving doors are powered above/below the central shaft, oralong the perimeter. Automatic revolving doors have safety sensors; butthere has been at least one fatality.[3]

Polymer dispersed liquid crystal devices :

In polymer dispersed liquid crystal devices (PDLCs), liquidcrystals are dissolved or dispersed into a liquid polymerfollowed by solidification or curing of the polymer. Duringthe change of the polymer from a liquid to solid, the liquidcrystals become incompatible with the solid polymer andform droplets throughout the solid polymer. The curingconditions affect the size of the droplets that in turn affectthe final operating properties of the "smart window".Typically, the liquid mix of polymer and liquid crystals isplaced between two layers of glass or plastic that include a

thin layer of a transparent, conductive material followed bycuring of the polymer, thereby forming the basic sandwichstructure of the smart window. This structure is in effect acapacitor.
