Relief, development and peacein the name of Christ.
Business community celebrates excellenceAbbotsford’s business community turned out in full force to honour their own on Nov. 20 at the 18th annual Business Excellence Awards.
More than 500 guests came out for the event that saw 91 nominees vie for awards in 11 categories.
The celebration was held at Tradex and sponsored by The Abbotsford News and the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce.
Rick Rake, chair of the Business Excellence committee, served as master of ceremonies.
“When we started the Business Excellence Awards 18 years ago, we wanted to recognize the businesses, organizations and individuals in our community that lead the way and stood out from the rest,” he told the crowd.
The opening reception featured networking opportunities followed by a buffet dinner.
Before the awards were handed out, guests enjoyed a performance by the Business Excellence Performance Troupe, which did a re-creation of the 1947 protest in which kids rallied against an increase in the cost of chocolate bars from fi ve cents to eight cents.
Also providing entertainment, during a break in the awards ceremony, was the Drum Cafe with its interactive experience.
Mike Welte, president of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, said the awards are a “showcase of Abbotsford’s diverse business community.”
“Every year, I learn about new businesses in our community
as a direct result of attending this outstanding evening. I am delighted to see so many recipients and nominees proudly displaying their Business Excellence certifi cates in their businesses around Abbotsford. Everyone is a winner in my books,” he added.
Allan Asaph, executive director of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, said this year’s judges were particularly impressed with the quality of nominees.
He said the Chamber works hard to ensure that the Business Excellence Awards are meaningful for all the nominees and that they are properly recognized.
“The feedback we receive from both nominees and guests each year helps us to keep improving and growing the awards as Abbotsford’s premier business event.”
