This program is for enthusiastic, committed youth who have completed Grade 10 or above by September, who like working with children and are able to make a minimum commitment of 100 volunteer hours with our following summer programs:

This program includes a 3 day leadership training workshop, manual and Youth Leadership Team t-shirt .This is a great opportunity to complete you volunteer requirements for graduation, and/or receive credits towards work experience, build valuable experience and acquire references for the future. SUMMER ADVENTURE PLAYGROUNDMake it a summer to remember by attending our free, drop-in, playground program. Children ages 5 – 11 are invited to join us for exciting playground activities at Gyro/Recreation Park. Parks and Recreation leaders are experts in creating fun-fi lled summer days involving craft s, games, songs, sports and other great activities.

Tuesday July 3 to Th ursday August 16(note: Playground leaders will not be at the Park on August 6 for BC Day)

Monday to Friday Gyro/Recreation Park 10 am – 4 pm

Parents: Our playground leaders are trained to off er play leadership and general supervision. However, by the nature of the program there are oft en many children and all are free to come and go. Children who require special supervision must be accompanied by a responsible babysitter, guardian or parent.

Discovery Preschool Ages 3 – 5 years (Children must be 3 years by Dec 31, 2012)Come play, learn and grow with us! Equine ...Equine Camp – Level 1Ages 7 – 14Do you love horses? Th en take part in this Horseback Riding program at Secret Creek Stables and learn how to ride a horse. As part of their day on the farm, participants will learn care and safety around horses; touch base on stable duties including feed-ing, brushing and cleaning stalls. Th en it’s on to the main focus of riding lessons with a fun obstacle course at the end for new riders. Participants will also have time to horse around with a craft and other horse activities. A certifi ed bike helmet, long pants and boots or shoes with a heel are mandatory. Bring water, sunscreen and a bagged lunch or snacks. Family Petting Farm Tuesday, July 3 at Blair Park6:30 – 8:30 pm (Margaret St. off Kitsuksis Dyke Walkway)Kick off the summer Our Town program with this ever popular family petting farm event with animals to pet, horses to ride and a hay ride. Also check out the animal craft s, games, giant bubbles, lasso the pony game, barn yard obstacle course, and the sing-along circle with the Folk Song Circle. Enjoy some “cool” Dairy Queen Dilly Bar treats compliments of Dairy Queen and summer drinks compliments of Canada Safeway.

Fiesta Fun Tuesday, July 17 at Williamson Park6:30 – 8:30 pm (Corner of Craig and Bishop) Enjoy some summer fi esta fun at the sombrero relay race, search for the hidden piñatas, bouncy tents, fi esta craft s table, balloon animals, and face painting. Check out the African Safari animal hunt, parachute games, giant bubbles, 5 pin bowling, face painting, obstacle course and have fun in the giant sand pile compliments of Dolan’s. Quality Foods is providing the prizes for the fi sh pond, helium balloons are compliments of Alberni Engineering and enjoy a “summer freeze” snow cone treat by the Kiwanis Club.

Centennial CelebrationTuesday, August 14 at the Harbour Quay6:30 – 8:30 pm(bottom of Argyle Street) In celebration of Port Alberni’s Centennial Celebration for 2012, the fi nal Our Town event this summer will be a Port Alberni celebration – cake and all! We always have high fl ying fun with the kites and a magic shoe by Ronald McDonald. You’ll also get to enjoy an evening of great entertainment provided by Marim Bam Buzz, West Coast Highlander Pipes and Drums, and the Valley Cloggers. Th ere will be refreshments and a Celebration Cake to enjoy, compliments of Fairway Market. Hope to see you there for this gala wind up of our 27th year of “Our Town” fun for families.
