Welcome to The Sixth Edition of The SAUDI HEALTHCARE EXHIBITIONThe Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has become a center of medical advancements in recent years and Saudi Healthcare 2020 Exhibition pays homage to the ever-growing Medical and Healthcare industry of the Kingdom. The exhibition will be a major platform for medical professionals, government officials and healthcare providers to discuss, engage and network in order to serve and advance the Kingdom’s healthcare industry.

e-Health has increasingly become one of the most effective healthcare solutions in the Kingdom, by providing quality services at lower costs. A budget of US$ 1.1 billion was allocated by the Ministry of Health for the development of e-Health services as of 2015. This scheme has been adopted by numerous agencies and has impacted millions of lives.

e-Health

With a total of 36 medical schools in the Kingdom, the government in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, have revolutionized the medical education sector, aiming to increase the number of practicing physicians in Saudi Arabia to over 30,000. This will open a wide door on medical education in Saudi Arabia for several years to come. The event will also pose as an opportunity for graduating MD’s to connect with hospitals, clinics and medical centers.

Education

The Kingdom prides itself on having a world-class pharmaceuticals sector, mass producing medicines and drugs, with an array of faculties. This sector is rapidly evolving, with new research bringing better, more effective drugs to the market.

Pharmaceuticals

Medical devices are essential for effective and efficient prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of illnesses and diseases. The Kingdom’s medical services sector is rapidly growing – with nearly 500,000 operations annually. This is a huge opportunity for the medical supplies industry, especially those producing world-class medical equipment, hospital supplies and disposables for carrying out operations in hospitals and clinics. It also poses opportunities for emergency products, ambulance equipment and e-Health services

Medical Supplies

Saudi Arabia’s population is expected to grow to nearly 34 million by 2019. As a result, the country is inherently striving to improve and expand all healthcare services across the Kingdom. Enhancing the Quality of Life as Per the Saudi VisionThe Quality of Life program by the Saudi Council of Economic and Development Affairs is aimed towards the creation of a healthy and vibrant society, which will support the realization of Saudi Vision 2030.

The program aims at developing the 4 main aspects in the healthcare sector:

1. Reducing two major dietary diseases related to lifestyle such as obesity and diabetes 2. Facilitating easy and quick access to healthcare3. Educating and raising awareness on primary and home care4. Improving and developing an efficient workforce in the healthcare sector

In addition, the program aims to update urban development standards to encourage citizen-centric building. This will need to include guidelines on minimum green space in developments; parking restrictions to improve walkability; accessible and well-placed stairs to build in physical fitness to daily life. Building codes must also support accessibility for People with Disabilities and elderly citizens, keeping all population segments active. One of the desired impacts of physical activities is reducing smoking rates among students.

SHCE 2020 contributes to the Saudi Vision 2030, by hosting an unparalleled exhibition to serve as a networking platform for National and International healthcare experts. The purpose is to improve the life expectancy of Saudi citizens from the average of 74 years to 80 years, while instilling medical education in the youth and increasing the Kingdom’s position in the social capital index from 26 to 10.

AWARENESS RAISING PROGRAMS by Saudi Ministry of HealthIn continuation of its efforts to combat smoking, the Saudi Ministry of Health (MOH) is working on opening a number of anti-smoking clinics across the Kingdom, issuing the Saudi Guide for Tobacco-Cessation Services as a guide for service providers, holding many theoretical and practical courses for workers in the field and to provide anti-smoking drugs for citizens free of charge.

According to a study by MOH, the rate of obesity in Saudi Arabia has reached an alarming 28.7%, while the rate of weight gain recorded is 30.7% in the age group of 15 years and above. MOH has issued several dietary guidelines for Saudis, aimed at raising awareness of what to eat. These guidelines discuss both the quality and the quantity of food to help diminish the risk of nutrition-associated diseases and complications that include obesity and overweight diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, anaemia, vitamin deficiency, etc.

The Saudi Food and Drug AuthorityA comprehensive strategic plan has been launched by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority in order to determine the rate of sugar, salted and saturated fats that is permissible, particularly in processed food items. The plan will involve setting standards and regulations, awareness campaigns and nutrition counseling on safe and healthy food.

diabetes, metabolic syndrome, colon and breast cancer, and depression

• Are likely to have less risk of a hip or vertebral fracture

• Exhibit a higher level of cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness

NONSMOKING Society

Everybody Needs TO SLEEP WELL

Medical COMMUNICATION

WHO has estimated that tobacco use (smoking and smokeless) is currently responsible for the death of about six million people across the world each year, with many of these deaths occurring prematurely. This total includes approximately 600,000 people who are also estimated to die from the effects of second-hand smoke. Although often associated with ill-health, disability and death from noncommunicable chronic diseases, tobacco smoking is also associated with an increased risk of death from communicable diseases.

Health communication has much to acclaim and contribute. The field is gaining recognition, in part because of its emphasis on combining theory and practice in understanding communication processes and changing human behavior. This approach is pertinent at a time when many of the threats to Global public health (through diseases and environmental calamities) are rooted in human behavior. By bringing together researchers and practitioners from diverse disciplines and adopting multilevel theoretical approaches, health communicators have a unique opportunity to provide meaningful input in improving and saving lives.

Sleep plays a key role in one’s health and is as important as eating, drinking and breathing. The main effects of sleep deprivation include physical effects (tiredness, fatigue, hypertension), cognitive impairment (deterioration of performance, attention and motivation; diminishment of mental concentration and intellectual capacity and increase of the likelihood of accidents at work and during driving) and mental health complications. Inadequate rest impairs the ability to think, to handle stress, to maintain a healthy immune system and to moderate emotions.
