Email Scam Impersonates US Government Agencies: In August 2012 the US Army Cyber Command, based at Ft. Belvoir, VA reported an online scam that im-

properly uses official Department of Defense (DOD) and other US Government seals, to include those of US

Cyber Command and the Defense Cyber Crime Center, to scam innocent persons. The Command stated

that DOD is in no way affiliated with online messages designed to appear as official correspondence request-

ing payment of a “fine” to unlock a personal electronic device, and users should not follow the email’s pay-

ment instructions. If you receive an email that looks suspicious, do not open it, and delete it immediately.

To report email scams, please forward to the Internet Crime Complaint Center and file a report

(www.ic3gov/complaint/default.aspx). If you receive unsolicited e-mail or spam, you can also forward the

messages to the Federal Trade Commission at ([email protected]).

News about the Library and Learning Center in Nam Dong,

Vietnam.

Chuck Theusch and Ross Worley have attended several update meetings in Chicago and Milwaukee over the

last several weeks. They both will been traveling into the Nam Dong region over the first part of 2013 to

see the progress of the area and obtain information first hand on the Learning Center progress. As you are

already aware maintence and upkeep on the center is an ongoing issue. We did not just build the Library and

walk away from it. Over the next five years after completion, on a sliding scale, we will be helping them main-

tain the property. The goal is at the end of five years they should be able to take care of its needs them-

selves. With that said, we have no plans of just walking away in 2016. Plans are in the making to stay with

this project for as long as we can. The 2020 English language project was founded from this location. This

project, supported by the Vietnam government, is to have all the Vietnam people speaking basic English by

2020. This library was picked to be the spearhead of the project because of the up to date technology we

have installed in this location. There are two more project for the Nam Dong peoples that are in the making

and will be in place before the end of 2013. The first is Special Forces Association Chapter 34 in Chicago has

stepped forward and sponsored Doctors and medical personal to visit the region last December. They pro-

vided medical care and Heart screening on the Nam Dong people. It appears the Nam Dong people have an

issue with Heart Problems. This was such a great event for the Nam Dong peoples and the medical personal

that were there had such a heartfelt experience that Chapter 34 is planning on having Medical Staff and Doc-

tors return to Nam Dong for an annual health care and heart screening day, starting in December 2013.

Lastly Chapter 34 has also started a Christmas Toy drive for the children of Nam Dong. Last year they col-

lected toys for Children in the Delta region and a leper see colony. So this year they want Chapter 29 to

join them in collecting toys for Nam Dong. One of the wives of a Chapter 34 member has connections to an overseas shipping company that will ship the toys directly to our contacts in Saigon. They used this shipping

method ,with Chapter 34 picking up the tab, last December with great success. So Chapter 29 lets step it up

and show our support for the Nam Dong Library and Learning Center in Vietnam that was started from the

heart and soles of 12th Group members and SFA chapter 29 members. Don’t let Chapter 34 take that away

from you.

Side Note: Plans are in the making for another trip to Vietnam, Loas and Cambodia in November and De-

cember of 2013. If you are interest please contact Chuck Thuesh at [email protected] or Ross Worley

at [email protected]. This is a wonderful trip of a lifetime. Don’t miss out.

TRICARE and Walgreens: Not Yet!

TRICARE beneficiaries continue to have freedom to choose among plenty of pharmacy options including

military pharmacies, TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery and 57,000 network pharmacies. However, those

who use non-network pharmacies, including Walgreens, will pay the full cost of the prescription up front and

then have to submit their own claims to get reimbursed. Last year, when Walgreens left the Express Scripts,

Inc. “National Network,” it meant Walgreens was no longer a TRICARE pharmacy network provider. The

recent agreement between Express Scripts and Walgreens makes the pharmacy part of the “National Plus

Network,” but TRICARE does not participate in this network. To find a nearby network pharmacy, use the

“find a pharmacy” feature on www.express-scripts.com/tricare.

Return Service Requested

Veteran Twice as Likely to Develop Lou Gehrig’s (ALS) Disease

In a recent issue of the retirement magazine “ECHOES” it was written that every day 15 Americans—more than 5,600 per year—receive the grim news from their doctors that they have Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS is an incurable and fatal disorder of the motor neurons, the highly specialized cells in the brain and spinal cord responsible for all voluntary muscle movement. Patients can expect to live two to five years after diagnosis. ALS occurs throughout the world without regard to racial, ethnic or socioeconomic status. Every single American is threatened, but studies show United States Veteran develop ALS twice as often as Americans with no military service and no one knows why. The statistical evidence is so solid that in 2008 the Depart-ment of Veterans Affairs designated ALS a “presumptively compensable illness.” If you’re a Veteran and you doctor says you have ALS, the VA presumes your military service caused it. Most newly diagnosed ALS pa-tients are between 55 and 75 years of age, but some are younger than 40. Reports suggest 20,000 to 30,000 Americans have ALS, but because no records have been kept throughout the country, it is hard to know for sure. For more information go to wwwn.cdc/gov/als or www.alsa.org Each year a Walk to Defeat ALS is held you can call 1-888-walk-als or email [email protected] to find a Walk in your area.

Kansas City Walk to Defeat ALS is September 29th, 2013
