Singing His Song,

JohnJohnJohnJohn

I hope your week is off to a great start! I want to encourage you this week to spend time together as a family having intentional conversations about how you see the Lord at work in and around you and your family. As I was studying this past week while away at school, that was one of the topics that came up over and over again. How busy life can be and how families don’t communicate and have intentional conversations about what they see the Lord doing in and around them during the week. It doesn’t have to be an every day conversation but at least twice during the week I want you to try and have a conversation together as a family. I realize life can be busy and everyone has a million things to do when they arrive home after a very busy day at school and work, but a few minutes together sharing in conversation is important as a family. These conversations allow you to learn what’s going on in each other’s lives and also allows you to have influence over your children as well. Let’s try this together this week and see how it goes. Parents really do have the greatest influence over their children no matter what stage of life they may be in! Let’s use this time to glorify the Lord together and grow together as a family!

Children’s Choirs are meeting each Wed. evening learning about Gratitude. Children’s Choirs will sing in BOTH morning services on Sunday Feb. 17th!

Two Buckets… Two Buckets were on their way to the well. “You look mighty sad,” said one bucket to the other.

“I was just thinking about the futility of what we do,” said the sad bucket. “Time after time we go down to the well and get full, but we always come back to the well empty.”

“You’ve got the wrong slant,” said the other bucket. “I enjoy what we’re doing. The way I look at it, no matter how many times we come to the well empty, we always come away full.”

2 Corinthians 4:16, “Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.” Giving of ourselves to people seems to drain us, and therefore can get very tiresome. The Bible teaches that even though we get physically tired, we are drawn and renewed by the Spirit God. This renewing can happen every day as we seek to know Christ and then again when we come together as the family of God and worship Him. Strength is found in the person of Christ. This week, may you not shine the light of Christ by trying to do more, but rather because you have been with Him.

We have several church members and extended family who are serving overseas in the military. If you have a family member you would like to add to the list, please

let Kendra know or give the church office their name and address. There will be a box located in the Welcome Center to collect items so we can send our military care packages.

Items needed are: Hand Warmers, individual packets of drink mix to go into water bottles, individually wrapped snacks, beef jerky, travel -size toiletry items, wet wipes, travel size lotion, chap stick, candy, gum of any type, pens, pencils, and small notepads.

If you would like to donate any of these items, please leave in the box located in the Welcome Center. We look forward to supporting our troops together. Thanks for your help in this effort.

Are you an Optimist?

In Martin Seligman’s twenty-two year study at the University of Pennsylvania, summarized in his book Learned Optimism, he determined that optimism is the most important quality you can develop for personal and professional success and happiness. Optimistic people are more effective in almost every area of life. Why? Because they approach the world with gratitude and hope rather than fear and regret. Optimists have four special behaviors, all learned through conscious practice and repetition. First, optimists look for the good in every situation. They always find blessings for which to be grateful. Second, optimists always seek the valuable lesson in every setback. They’re thankful even for hardships, interpreting difficulty as instruction rather than obstruction. Third, optimists always look for the solution to every problem. Instead of blaming or complaining when things go wrong, they take action in the hopes of improving their situation. They ask questions like, "What’s the solution? What can we do now? What’s the next step?" Fourth, optimists think and talk continually about their goals. Hopeful tomorrow will be better than today, they are future-oriented rather than backward-looking. ~ John Maxwell
