VDA 6.3 Competence Training for Certified Process Auditors (ID341) - VDA Licensed This training offers the opportunity for participants to strengthen their process auditing competence, to exchange experiences from daily auditing practice with other auditors and to further develop their practical knowledge. All the contents of the upgrade training are integrated into this course, so that previous experience can be reflected based on the current red volume (2016). After successful VDA 6.3 process auditor qualification, continual further de-velopment of auditing competence should not be neglected. Again and again, situations arise during audits that lead to uncertainties in the appropriate as-sessment of requirements. In this course, participants have the opportunity to discuss such situations from auditing practice with the other participants and an expert, to determine the appropriateness and application of requirements and assessments. This will provide increased confidence in applying process audits, as well as motivation for further personal development.

In the automotive and supplier industry, product safety and product liability have always been high-priority issues. Nations throughout the world have set this down in national and international laws that have been transferred into contractually agreed, specific automotive requirements. These are valid not only for the OEMs themselves but also for the whole supply chain (e.g., as described for VW in the ‘Formula Q’). The supplier organisations are required to nominate and install a so-called product safety representative. Thus, throughout the whole product creation process, liability risks can be determined by relevant expert knowledge, identified, avoided or minimised in product development, and controlled by process development. Suppliers delivering their products to German and North American manufacturers (OEM) are obliged to assess their FMEA based on the differing charts for severity, probability and detection according to the FMEA manuals of VDA and AIAG. This leads to confusion and increases the complexity and activities of product development and improvement by suppliers.

The common requirements and expectations for FMEA enable suppliers to determine an FMEA process and the requisite methods and tools that deliver a robust and complete FMEA fulfilling the needs and expectations of their customers. Beginning with the criteria severity, probability and detection in the assessment charts, the VDA and AIAG manuals were adapted and standardised. OEM representatives were involved (BMW, Daimler AG, Daimler Trucks, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Opel, Volkswagen) as well as suppliers (Bendix, Continental, GKN, Knorr Bremse, Lear, Nexteer, ON Semiconductor, Robert Bosch, Schaeffler AG, ZF Friedrichshafen).

Together, a process for FMEA has been described that enables suppliers to fulfil their customers’ requirements and expectations for FMEA. OEM represen-tatives were involved (BMW, Daimler AG, Daimler Trucks, Fiat Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Opel, Volkswagen) as well as suppliers (Bendix, Con-tinental, GKN, Knorr Bremse, Lear, Nexteer, ON Semiconductor, Robert Bosch, Schaeffler AG, ZF Friedrichshafen). Thus, FMEA is an important management instrument that supports interdisciplinary cooperation. FMEA also demonstrates a risk has already been reduced or can be reduced in future by experience, calculation, testing and inspection.
