Classic Australian Movie ‘The Castle’ at The Chris Gahan Centre Monday 22 January Movie starts 1.30pm

“How’s the serenity?”….

The Castle is a 1997 Australian movie focusing on an ordinary family of "Aussie battlers" who live next door to an international airport. Their life is turned upside-down when the government tries to force them out of their house, but the family stands their ground and fights both in and out of the courts. An iconic movie regarded by many to be the greatest Australian comedy film ever made, thanks to its endlessly quotable catch phrases and heartwarming story. The dialogue is heavy on Australian expressions, colloquialisms and cultural references.

Join us for lunch before the film at 12pm and stay for afternoon tea after the movie

Cost: free. If you stay for lunch it costs $8.90 Bookings: Essential. Call 8290 1333 from 9.30am on Tuesday 19 December Transport: Please enquire at time of booking. (Referenced from website tv tropes)

You may even discover homes and nesting sites of many native mammals and birds. We’ll meet back at the picnic area for lunch under one of the old-style shingle roof rotundas, surrounded by the spectacular forest.

Summertime Easy Walkers Brighton Beach Wednesday 24 January Departing: 9am - Prahran Town Hall (Greville St outside Prahran Library)

9.20am - Malvern Town Hall (High St side)

9.50am - Phoenix Park (Rob Roy Rd, at lower car park)

Since the Victorian era, Brighton was one of Melbourne's favourite seaside destinations.

Today we will make our way from Stonnington to Brighton beach, which stretches along the coast of Port Phillip Bay. And it’s here where you’ll see an Australian icon and cultural asset – the unique Brighton bathing boxes and boatsheds. The 82 bathing boxes are unique structures, all retaining classic Victorian architecture, made of weatherboard and with corrugated iron rooves. They remain as licensed bathing boxes, as they did over one hundred years ago.

This is a perfect outing for those aspiring photographers and artists who want to capture the colourful icons—bring along your camera and take photos or maybe draw or paint the surroundings. Weather permitting, you may like to take a swim. Or make a long leisurely walk along the shore at your own pace, sit and read a book or simply enjoy the location. We’ll provide you with a picnic lunch and refreshments. Remember to Slip, Slop, Slap and your swimmers and towel if you plan to swim. Bring along your own sun parasol, rugs and cushions for a relaxing time by the water. We’ll return to Stonnington by 4.30pm. On this trip you will be travelling on a 10 seater minibus. Mobility: This is an Easy Walkers outing and is suitable for those who are confident on their feet and have a level of fitness for walking without assistance. Our staff will facilitate this outing and assist in making this a comfortable and pleasant day but there will be no carers on hand to provide individual support.
