    ecause of Israels

    The subject of leadership is

of time immemorial. It is as

    old as the worlds civilization

itself. In fact, the rise and fall

    of civilization throughout

    history reflect and are

    influenced by the availability

    of enlightened, effective

    leadership. One of the

    biblical examples is

    Nehemiah. Let us learn from

his life; a life of prayer and

    worship that rebuilt the walls

    of Jerusalem

    Watching Nehemiah build

walls and lead men, we have

    all learned many valuable

    lesson on leadership. Among

    the most important are the

    following:

    Nehemiah

    cried/weep for

    days and weeks

    upon learning

    the status of his

    land and people.

    And so with that

    the rebuilding

    vision had

    began.

    Vision

    Jerusalem, restored

    and flourishing, was an

    outward, visible result.

    The vision God gave

    Nehemiah was the

    inward, invisible reason.

Just as there can be no

    blossom without first a

    seed, so there can be

    no-life changing

    leadership without first

    a vision. Vision is the

    ability to see what God

    wants to accomplish

    through our lives. Vision

    changes the future.

    Mission / Vision

    His Vision is to unite

    his people and bring

    everybody back to

    the center of

    worship which is

    Jerusalem

    His Mission is to

    rebuild the walls of

    Jerusalem to bring

    back the confidence

    and trust of his

    people.

    Spirituality

The word of God andprayer defined andempowered Nehemiahslife. Thus, he knew whatGod wanted and hecommitted his life to doit. Like Jesus, he couldsay, Not my will butthine be done.

    Obedience to Godswill

    Courage

Courage comes fromthe security ofknowing thatconvictions are valid. No opponent couldblock what God wasputting in your mindto do. Many tried tostop Nehemiah, including political

rivals, enemy armiesand traitors. Localinfighting Nonesucceeded.

    Integrity

Nehemiah used hisoffice to give ratherthan to get. Hehonoured hissubordinates,

promoted his equalsand gave credit wherecredit was due. Not ahint of scandalclouded his

    accomplishments. Transparency

    Proper stewardship

    Discernment

    Discernment is a spiritual

    sixth sense that comes

    from walking close to

    God and keeping your

eyes open. Nehemiahwas an astute observer

    of men and events. He

was generous but not asoft touch, loving but

    never gullible.

    PerseveranceThe estimated time

    between Nehemiahs call

to the final reforms isabout twenty-five years.

    He endured all opposition

    to build the walls and

patiently awaited thespiritual renewal to come

    before dedicating them. A

    quarter century later he

was called upon to re-correct the same old

    problems. He did it with

    the same passion.

    Nehemiah never quit.Restie C. Diomangay

    Conclusion

Nehemiah was a man who waited

upon God until he knew what

God wanted. Then he did itwith all his heart. And in doing

it, he ran from no enemy and

    turned from no problem. He

    knew that the ultimate purpose

for restored walls was torebuild people. His heart bled

for the poor; he scorned the

    hypocrite; he feared not the

    rich and powerful. He abused

    none of the privileges of

    leadership. His first concern

was the glory of God. His

    second, the good of the

    people. And what he started,

    he finished.

There is a crisis in the quantity

    of leaders.

    There are simply not enough

    of them. Todays leadership

also suffers from a crisis of

    quality. Some leadership

    failures are moral. Other

    mental and motivational. You

dont have to be a big person to

use of God. But just be fullyavailable.

    Nehemiah was a man who

refused to play it safe. He

    faced colossal challenges. His

country was is bondage, itscapital city, Jerusalem, lay in

    ruins. Nehemiah rebuilt in 52

days walls that had been down

    for 140 years.
