Materials and care

Down and FeathersDown is the soft ‘inner feather’ closest to the bird which keeps it warm. Down has a shorter, softer quill than a feather and is extremely effective at trapping air, making it an excellent insulator. Down also breathes, allowing moisture from your body to pass through the quilt.

Feathers provide resilience, but do not have the same insulating properties.

Down and feathers used in IKEA pillows and quilts are never taken from living birds.

Care tip: Air and shake out your quilts and pillows regularly to help them stay fresh. They can be machine washed at 60ºC and tumble dried once or twice a year. thought.

There’s a lot of talk about natural materials in mattress

advertisements these days – and at IKEA stores you can choose from

mattresses filled with horsehair, camel hair, silk or wool. But there

are also times when other materials are more suitable – such as

polyester, which is twice as strong as cotton.

Buying a mattress is very much an individual choice – it’s the most

personal item of furniture in your home.

So choose carefully – you might need one type of mattress, and

your bed partner another. And of course there’s nothing to say that

of the night. Things can get cramped, hot and disordered.

category called “four-seasons quilts”, which include one warm quilt

and one cool quilt. Take them apart or put them together to tailor

your warmth to the weather.
