SPECIALTY SHOW CRITIQUE 10TH AUSTRALIAN SAMOYED NATIONAL SHOW | SYDNEY 2016


Judging at the Na�onal Samoyed 2016 was the biggest honour for me and I would like to express my thanks to the Commi!ee

of the NSW Samoyed Club Inc. for the invita�on to judge and also for their hospitality, to the steward for his help and to the

exhibitors for bringing their dogs for me to judge.

It's been a great honour to be a part of such a well-organized show and to evaluate dogs to the exhibitors and some breeders

who have more years in breeding of our beau�ful breed than my age. I tried to make that each exhibitor is treated equally

regardless of the perceived quality of the dog showing and I hope that I succeeded and that the majority of exhibitors le" the

ring sa�sfied.

I have truly enjoyed the company of the polite and friendly exhibitors, regardless of whether it were young exhibitors or more

experienced ones, they all know how to show the quality of their dogs, which led to the excellent assessment.

Once again, thanks to everyone who gave me the opportunity and honour to evaluate their dogs.

Thank you for your hospitality and for the excellent organiza�on of the show, everything passed in a beau�ful atmosphere,

without any stressful situa�on, and it was really a pleasure to be a part of such an event.

The quality of presented dogs was at the highest level. I’ve visited many big shows in Europe, but I can say that I’ve been

impressed with quality of the line-up at Na�onal Samoyed 2016. There were some top quality dogs and every one of them easy

could be a winner at any show in Europe.

I was impressed with quality of classes 10 & 10a- Australian bred dogs and bitches. So many high quality specimens were

entered in these classes.

As a conclusion I can say that the Samoyeds in Australia are beau�ful and well preserved breed, full of power, endurance,

charm, suppleness, dignity and fit for their legi�mate work and I congratulate to Australian breeders for that.

I realised that many of entered dogs/bitches have imported dogs in their pedigrees and impact of these dogs is discernible,

especially on size of their offspring – I guess that very soon ANKC should take in considera�on change in standard (18-22

inches) and allow tolerance in plus.

Class – Baby-Puppy Picnic Dog

Beau�ful class with 5 babies entered. Despite of their first steps in the show ring, some of them presented themselves with

confidence. The difference in age and their development was clearly no�ceable.

1st Best Baby Puppy in Show - No. 3 - ANAKY WITH A WHY

Five months old baby of very good type, very nice head, correct bite, very good pigmenta�on, well set pricked ears. Well-

developed body, good croup, well tail set, excellent angula�ons in forequarters and hindquarters, straight legs, strong bones,

good paws, excellent mover in all direc�ons, excellent temperament, tes�cles are on place.

2nd No. 1 - LUNASEA HEAR ME ROAR

Three and half months old baby, good type, wedge-shaped head, dark eyes, good stop, well placed ears, good body shape,

excellent angula�ons, long straight legs, strong bones, moves very well for his age, excellent temperament.

3rd No. 4 - KALASKA DEARLY BELOVED

Almost six months old baby, nice propor�onal head, good stop, well placed ears, very nice expression, strong neck, well

developed body, level back, good tail set, very good angula�ons in front and rear, straight legs, good bones, very good in

movement in all direc�ons.



Class 2 – Minor Puppy Dog

Only four entered, one absent minor puppy. Nice class of different types.

1st Best Minor Puppy in Show - No. 6 – AIREBIS CANUFEELTHELOVETONIGHT

Almost eight months old puppy, beau�ful head, good propor�on of muzzle and skull, correct bite, well set eyes and ears,

almond shaped dark eyes, ears well furred, nice expression. Good reach of neck, level back, well tail set. Deep, well developed

ribcage and well developed chest, excellent angula�ons, straight well boned legs, nice paws, excellent feathering, excellent

puppy coat, moves very well for his age, s�ll a li�le bit over reaching what is normally for such young dog.

2nd No. 8 – ARCTICLIGHT PLAY ON WORDS

Six months old puppy, nice masculine head with lovely alert expression at all �mes, good reach of neck, nice compact body

shape, good propor�ons, he needs to develop in chest, excellent angula�ons in forequarters and hindquarters, very good side

movement, in coming a li�le bit closer movement of front legs, very good coat.

3rd No. 9 – APOLAR MAGIC MILLIONS

Lovely puppy, good type, nice wedge-shaped head, well set ears, strong neck, level back, well tail set, good ribcage, very good

angula�ons, very good bones, well developed paws, moves well, very good temperament.

Class 3 – Puppy Dog

1st Best Puppy in Show, RCC, RUBIS – No. 13 – KALASKA THANK GOD ITS FRIDAY

Lovely nine month old well balanced puppy of correct type, lovely head, strong jaws with correct bite, well set eyes and ears

well furred, excellent pigmenta�on, strong neck, well set shoulder, deep ribcage, excellent angula�ons, level top line, nicely

tail set, correct rear angula�ons, very good bones, very nice outline and all in propor�on giving a well-balanced boy, very good

puppy coat, moves very well in all direc�ons, very good contact with handler and lovely temperament.

2nd No. 12 – AHZU NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Lovely eight month old boy in his puppy coat, lovely head, ears set nicely, correct shape and well furred, dark almond eyes,

correct bite, good reach of neck, good depth of chest and correct angula�ons, nice level top line, tail well plumed and carried

correctly all �me, very nice shape, straight legs, strong bones, correct shape of paws, excellent movement, presented and

shown nicely.

3rd No. 14 – YEREVAN DESIGNED WITH AMOUR

Masculine head and muzzle of favourable length, good scissors bite, I would like to see be!er “smile” and a li!le bit longer

neck and be!er set of shoulders, strong level back, good loins, good croup, well tail set. A li!le bit open angula"ons in rear but

correspond with forequarters. Good coat, nice ruff, moves well.

Class 4 – Junior Dog

Small class of only 5 dogs entered, but 2 were absent.

1st Best Junior in Show – No. 19 – CH ALDONZA STAND EASY

Very handsome well balanced and strong boy, nice masculine head, correct bite, ears correctly set and well furred with lovely

biscuit on the �ps, correct shape of eyes, nicely arched neck, correct shoulder lay over, good spring of rib, level top line, lovely

well plumed tail correctly carried over the back, well defined tuck-up, a li�le bit open rear angula�ons, correct feet, I’d like to

see more power in drive of hind legs, coat of excellent structure and texture, well presented and shown.



Class 4 – Junior Dog Cont.

2nd No. 16 – ANAKY I WANT IT ALL

Nice typical boy, nice masculine head, good reach of neck and correct lay of shoulders, correct angula�ons, well sprung ribs,

needs to develop in front, level top line, correct tail set, strong bones, correct feet, very good structure and texture of the coat,

moved and presented well.

3rd No. 20 – BELTAMO CALICO JACK

One year old boy, very nice head, nice set of ears and eyes, correct bite, good neck, level back, a li�le bit lower tail set, deep

well developed ribcage, straight legs, strong bones, correct angula�on, he needs a li�le bit more prac�ce in the ring and will be

be�er in movement.

Class 5 – Intermediate Dog

Nice class with 11 dogs entered, but 4 of them were absent.

1st No. 22 – CH BENTARA ROYAL AFFAIR AT BELAIA

Very nice, young, almost square male. Beau�ful wedge-shaped head, small well placed ears, almond dark eyes, beau�ful

“smile”, scissors bite. Strong neck, good slope of shoulders, strong short back, good loins, well sloped croup, nice well plumed

tail. Good ribcage but he needs to develop in chest. Defined tuck-up. Lovely length of legs and strong bones. I would like to see

a li"le bit be"er angula�ons in hindquarters. Excellent in movement in all direc�ons. Very good coat.

2nd No. 21 – CH ANAKY SUPERBRAT

Masculine head, good type, very good propor�on of muzzle and skull, dark eyes, well placed very ac�ve ears, excellent

pigmenta�on. Enough strong long neck, strong back, good croup, well placed plumed tail. Deep, well developed ribcage, very

good angula�ons in forequarters, prefer to see a li�le bit be�er angula�ons in rear. Good coat. Moves well but a li�le bit wider

in rear.

3rd No. 24 – CH AIREBIS THE WAY YOUMAKE MESMILE

Nice boy of correct type, nice head with nicely shaped, well furred and well set ears and dark eyes, correct bite, very nice

expression, well arched neck, well placed shoulders giving good front, well sprung ribs, nice top line, very well plumed and tail

set, very good rear angula�ons, lovely length of legs and good bones, beau�ful feathering, excellent coat, moves well in all

direc�ons.

Class 8 – Limit Dog

1st No. 34 – ARCTICLIGHT STAND AND DELIVER

Strong typical male, beau�ful head, well placed ears, dark eyes, correct bite, excellent pigmenta�on, lovely neck, level back,

good loins, excellent set of well furred tail, very good ribcage, excellent angula�ons on both ends, lovely legs, nice feet, good

feathering, good bones, excellent coat, excellent mover in all direc�ons.

2nd No. 33 – SNOWISPA HERO OF THE EMPIRE

Lovely nicely balanced boy with nice head, good propor�on of muzzle and skull, ac�ve ears, well arched neck, well set of

shoulders and excellent front, well sprung ribs, lovely top line, a li�le bit longer in loins, well plumed and set tail, correct

hindquarters angula�ons, moved well, well presented and handled, could easily swap places on another day with the first one



Class 8 – Limit Dog Cont.

3rd No. 32 – ANAKY THE MOST COURIOUS THING

Typical medium size male, masculine well-propor�oned head, correct bite, ac�ve ears, nice “smile”, strong neck, level top

line, good chest, correct front, enough strong bones, well angulated, moves well, nice temperament, good coat condi�ons

Class 10 – Australian Bred Dog

The quality of the exhibits was very high and many dogs could easily swap places on another day. Almost all shown dogs were

in excellent condi�ons, with very well developed muscles and very good bones. Unfortunately, I couldn't put on higher

placement some beau�ful dogs despite of their excellent movement and structure, but they are taller than allowed in ANKC

standard.

1st Best Aust Bred in Show, Best Veteran in Show 7-10 – No. 38 – MULTI CH. INT.CH. SUP. CH. KALASKA AUSSIE IDOL

Nine and half years old typical male in excellent condi�ons, masculine head, strong jaws, well set eyes and set of ears, very

strong neck, level back, short coupling, good slope of croup, well set plumed tail, excellent angula�ons on both ends, straight

legs, a li�le bit weaker pasterns, excellent bones, excellent coat shaded with biscuit and very well groomed, moves very agile

for his age, excellent temper.

2nd No. 41 – CH ANAKY IM AN IDOL

Medium sized dog, lovely masculine head, muzzle in very good propor�on with skull, well developed stop, correct bite, good

reach of neck, short level back, deep ribcage well developed, very good angula�ons in forequarters and hindquarters, excellent

coat and very nice ruff, movement could be be�er in rear, especially in going and coming, moves a li�le bit wider in rear.

3rd No. 44 – ARCTICLIGHT JINGLE BELLS ROCK

Very nice young dog, excellent expression, very nice masculine head, excellent pigmenta�on, lovely “smile”, good reach of

neck, level back, strong loin, well tail set, deep ribcage and well developed chest, very good angula!ons, strong bones, could

move be"er and he needs a li"le bit more experience in the ring, very good coat, excellent feathering.

Class 11 – Open Dog

The excellent class full of high quality dogs. Entered 16 dogs three were absent. Just nuances in way and quality of movement

made differences in placement. I have been genuinely surprised by size, their power and well developed bodies.

1st Best Open in Show, CC, BIS – No. 53 – ITL.CH. AUST SUP CH. LUNASEA LOVE ME LIKE MONEY

Impressive male full of breed type and character, correct masculine head with good propor�on of muzzle and skull, wedge-

shaped head, well defined stop, excellent expression, very ac�ve well furred ears, lovely arched strong neck well placed into

shoulders, excellent front, deep ribcage giving enough room for lungs and heart for such ac�ve dog, strong back, correct loins,

excellent tail set, excellent hindquarters, excellent developed muscles, strong bones, straight legs, correct feet, well defined

tuck-up, moves well with excellent reach and drive, very well presented and handled.

2nd No. 62 – CH. KALASKA LOVER BOY

Beau�ful strong male of excellent temper, typical masculine head, well set eyes and ears, excellent expression, good reach of

neck, strong level back, well set well furred tail, deep ribcage, well developed chest, excellent angula�ons in forequarters and

hindquarters, nice shape, strong and well developed muscles, straight legs, strong bones, nice paws, very nice feathering, coat

in excellent condi�on, he moved briskly and with very good drive of hind legs, excellent presenta�on and contact with handler,

excellent temperament.



Class 11 – Open Dog Cont.

3rd No. 57 – CH. ANAKY TAKE CHANCE ON ME

Almost seven years old male, typical, in very good condi�on, nice head, strong jaws, good propor�ons of muzzle and skull, very

good pigmenta�on, ac�ve ears, very nice ruff, strong well carried neck, strong back, a li�le bit longer in couplings, good croup,

well set and carried tail, very well developed ribcage, excellent front, straight well boned legs, strong paws, moves freely.

Class – Baby-Puppy Picnic Bitch

1st No. 67 - LUNASEA FORGOT ME NOT

Very nice baby bitch. Lovely head of correct propor�ons, ac�ve well furred ears, nice alert expression, well balanced all

through, moderate long legs with super bone, excellent feet and good angula�on, excellent coat and nice placed and carried

tail. Happy girl who moved out confidently and very nice for her age.

2nd No. 72 - KALASKA PURPLE RAIN

Typical female, excellent conforma�on, correct bite, nice eyes, correct ears, excellent pigmenta�on, strong enough long neck

in good propor�on with the rest of the body, level back, nice tail, lovely shaped ribcage, well developed chest for the age,

lovely length of legs, well developed bones, correct paws, excellent angula�ons in both ends, good coat, moves freely

3rd No. 70 - AIREBIS ONCE UPON A TIME

Lovely baby, excellent type, feminine head and very nice expression, small ears, excellent pigmenta�on, medium reach of neck,

well developed body for her age, good length of the legs, good bones, nice feet, excellent feathering, very good angula�ons in

forequarters and hindquarter, excellent move for her age, reach and long baby coat, sweet temperament

Class 2a – Minor Puppy Bitch

1st No. 78 – ARCTICLIGHT ROCK A BYE BABY

Typical feminine head, correct bite, nice eyes, correct ears, excellent pigmenta�on, good reach of neck, lovely body shape,

correct tail, lovely shaped ribcage, well developed chest for the age, lovely length of legs, well developed bones, correct paws,

excellent angula�ons in both ends, good coat, moves freely.

2nd No. 76 – AHZU YOU BETTER WATCH OUT

Lovely eight months old puppy, typical wedge-shaped head, excellent pigmenta�on, dark almond eyes, ac�ve medium size ears

are well set, I’d prefer to see a li�le bit longer neck, she has level back and well tail set, good length of legs, strong pasterns,

enough strong bones, excellent angula�ons in fore and hindquarters, coat in excellent condi�ons, moves well but she needs

more experience in the ring and she will show be�er movement, sure she can do it.

3rd No. 75 – APOLAR ULTIMATE JAWEL

Well developed eight months female, dark eyes should be be�er shaped and I prefer to see a li�le bit smaller ears,

pigmenta�on should be be�er, good reach of neck, level back, very nice tail, deep ribcage, enough wide chest, straight legs,

strong bones, excellent coat structure and texture, moves well



Class 3a – Puppy Bitch

1st No. 85 – CH YEREVAN DESIGNED WITH LOVE

Feminine young bitch, very nice type, beau�ful head and expression, scissors bite, dark eyes, nice ear set, good reach of neck,

nice top-line, nice tail, well developed chest, straight legs, nice paws, excellent angula�ons, very good puppy coat, she needs a

li!le bit more experience in the ring and could show be!er movement, she could.

2nd No. 80 – LUNASEA MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY

Beau�ful bitch, compact, very nice shape, feminine wedge-shaped head, would like to see be!er “smile”, nice propor!on of

In the class entered 7 bitches, one was absent. Generally, good structure, bitches are s�ll developing and some of them need a

Good type, lovely head, nice set eyes and ears with biscuit on the �ps, good neck, level back, a li�le bit longer in loin, well

angulated in front and rear, enough strong bones for female, coat of good structure and texture with nice biscuit spots, moves

well, excellent side movement and a li�le bit wider in rear.

Class 5a – Intermediate Bitch

Lovely class full of quality but with be�er movement and handling placement of some bitches could be be�er. No�ceable tall

bitch, the best mover in the class have been placed out of three because of her height.

Another excellent class with many high class bitches. Good size, excellent structure and substance, many of them have been

perfectly groomed and shown.
