Table 16: Single/Multiple Phase Left Turn Arrow – 2 Aspect (Green and Yellow)
Operational Description This table applies to a vehicle signal group which is either:
a shared left turn lane; or
an exclusive left turn lane with opposing right turn filter movement; and
is green in the left turn phase(s), and
allows left turn filtering in one ore more other phases; and
has no conflicting pedestrian movement.
The signal group overlaps green to the left turn filter phase(s).
There is a late start requirement in the left turn phase when it follows the phase of the adjacent green roundel.
Note:
The use of a 2 aspect lantern is permitted only when adjacent to a normal 3 aspect lantern.
Typical Application Example In this example:
there are 3 phases; and
the vehicle signal group is green in C phase; and
there is a late start in C when C follows A.

The signal group cannot overlap from a phase when the opposing right turn filter movement is enabled.
There is a late start requirement in the overlap phase which follows the right turn filter phase.
Typical Application Example In this example:
there are 3 phases; and
the opposing right turn filter phase is A; and
the vehicle signal group is green in A and B phases; and
there is a late start in B when B follows A.

controls a left turn filter movement; and
provides protection for a conflicting pedestrian movement.
There is red arrow protection for the pedestrian movement:
if the buttons are not split, for Walk and timed during clearance; OR
if the buttons are split:

allows right turn filtering in one or more other phases when the Z- signal is present; and
has an opposing full or part time right turn filter movement; and
the adjacent roundel does not overlap against an opposing right turn filter movement; and
provides protection for a conflicting pedestrian movement.
The Z- signal is applied under Masterlink or Flexilink operation.
There is red arrow protection for the pedestrian movement:
if the buttons are not split, for Walk and timed during clearance; OR
if the buttons are split:
• for Walk if the near side button is pressed; or
• for Walk and timed during clearance if the far side button is pressed.
The signal group minimum applies to the OFF display.
There is a late start requirement in the filtering phase(s) when it follows the right turn phase.
Typical Application Example In this example:
there are 3 phases; and
the vehicle signal group is green in B phase; and
there is a late start in A when A follows B and the right turn filtering is enabled; and
late start in B when B follows A conditional on adjacent roundel not overlapping.

Table 70: Multiple Phase Right Turn Arrow – with Filter Option
Operational Description This table applies to a vehicle signal group which:
is a right turn; and
is for a shared right turn lane; and
is green in multiple phases; and
allows right turn filtering in one or more other phases when the Z- signal is present; and
has an opposing full or part time right turn filter movement, and
the adjacent roundel does not overlap against an opposing right turn filter movement; and
provides protection for a conflicting pedestrian movement.
The Z- signal is applied under Masterlink or Flexilink operation.
There is red arrow protection during Walk & Clearance for the conflicting pedestrian movement.
The introduction of the OFF display late in the phase is subject to the:
Z5 special facility flag being present under SCATS operation; and
A signal group minimum applies to the OFF display.
left turn red arrow for opposing traffic is OFF.
There is a late start requirement in the filtering phase(s) when it follows a right turn phase.
Typical Application Example In this example:
there are 4 phases; and
the vehicle signal group is green in B and D phases; and
there is a late start in A when A follows B or D and the right turn filtering is enabled; and
late start in B when B follows A conditional on adjacent roundel not overlapping; and
late start in D when D follows A conditional on adjacent roundel not overlapping.

Operational Description This table applies to a vehicle signal group which:
controls a right turn filter movement; and
provides protection for a conflicting pedestrian movement.
There is red arrow protection for the pedestrian movement:
if the buttons are not split, for Walk and timed during clearance; OR
if the buttons are split:
• for Walk if the near side button is pressed; or
• for Walk and timed during clearance if the far side button is pressed.
The signal group minimum applies to the OFF display.
Note:
The use of a 1 aspect lantern is permitted only when adjacent to a normal 3 aspect lantern.
Typical Application Example In this example there are 2 phases.

Table 84: Multiple Phase Left Turn Arrow – Conditional
Operational Description This table applies to a vehicle signal group which:
is an exclusive left turn lane; and
is green in the left turn phase(s); and
allows left turn filtering in one or more other phase(s); and
has an opposing right turn filter movement which is optional (controlled by Z- signal); and
provides protection for a conflicting pedestrian movement in the left turn filter phase(s).
There is red arrow protection timed during Walk for the conflicting pedestrian movement.
The signal group overlaps green:
between left turn phases, where multiple left turn phases are defined; and
when there is no conflicting pedestrian movement in the next phase.
The signal group overlaps green when there is no conflicting pedestrian movement in the next left turn filtering phase.
Opposing Filter Enabled
The signal group cannot overlap from a left turn filter phase.
There is a late start requirement in the left turn phase when it follows the phase of the adjacent green roundel.
Opposing Filter Disabled
The signal group overlaps green from the left turn filter phase to the left turn phase.
The signal group conditionally displays green during a pedestrian phase(s).
The signal group minimum applies to the GREEN display.
The introduction of the GREEN display late in the left turn phase will be inhibited when the Z5 special facility flag is present under SCATS operation.
Typical Application Example In this example:
there are 3 phases; and
the vehicle signal group is green in C phase.
there is a late start in C when C follows A and the opposing filter is enabled
the vehicle signal group is conditionally:
green in A phase when the opposing filter is disabled; and
off in A phase when the opposing filter is enabled.
