Tips for Being an Ideal Spectator

1. Be Prepared - Carry a bag with water and snacks for yourself, remember aid stations are just for the runners. Make sure you have a watch, a map of the race course, and all your cheering supplies with you. Dress appropriately, and don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes and go to the bathroom before you leave!

2. Plan Your Route - Pre-plan with your runner where you’ll be cheering so they know to look for you (see our suggested spectator viewing areas). In addition to planning where you’ll be located, estimate the time your runner will be running by and then plan your route to get to your spots. Stay on schedule by tracking your runner live through our app. 3. Make Signs - Whether it’s funny, inspirational, or personalized to your runner, participants love to read signs. The bigger and more colorful, the better!

4. Be LOUD!! - Rather than just clapping for the runners, ring a cow bell, bring a speaker and play music, or yell encouraging phrases. Help bring the energy up for all the runners.

5. Go the Extra Mile -Bringaspecialtreat.Ifyouknowyourrunnermightbeflaggingtowardthemiddleor end of a race, position yourself so you can provide a favorite snack that might help them power through. - Try dressing up. A funny themed costume or a custom t-shirt can help amuse and motivate a runner to keep going.

6. Have Fun & Celebrate - Most importantly, remember to have fun, take a lot of pictures, and celebrate the amazing accomplishement of your runner. Reward your runner with a yummy meal and drinks after theeventatoneofthemanyamazingestablishmentsMadisonhastooffer.
