INS Manuel de Montsuar

ENGLISH 2n Batxillerat

The students of 2n batxillerat have written speeches about

different subjects. I think it’s well worth reading them. Here you

have a sample.

Page 2: Speeches

Good evening. I’m 18 years old and I’m studying second of batxillerat. In a

few months I will probably be studying archaeology in Barcelona. Why do I

say “probably”? Just because I will have to pay over 2000 € for my

university studies plus my apartment or residence that will cost me over

7000 € more.

The economic situation is so worrying and I’m also worried about my

future because universities are becoming more expensive each year and

their quality is at the same time becoming lower. Moreover, studying at

university doesn’t mean that your job opportunities wil be good, and more

in degrees like archaeology, on which nobody trusts during the crisis

periods.

As you see, we can’t avoid ending talking about politics and the fact is that

the government should give more economical opportunities to those

institutions which aret he base of society, such as hospitals and health

care, education, social services and cultural activities.

In conclusion, what I want to say is that we should at least realize that the

situation is also affecting us and our future, and if we don’t try to change

things, who will do it?

What’s the difference between a man and a slave? Money...? Power...?

No! A man chooses and a slave obeys. In these days we’re living, we’re

being told by our “truthful” government to make great sacrifices for the

good of the nation, and that those sacrifices are made, at the end, to

satisfy everyone... but I think that’s not true!

In most of the countries were the recession has made struggles, the banks

amounts of money come from the common funds to solve the problem

they created, but while they don’t reinvest the money on anything, they

keep receiving and receiving money, and the same happens with the high-

standing politicians who allow that, leaving the other citizens apart.

By saying this I’m willing to call for all those good workers (both rich and

poor) who keep doing their job, thinking that that’s enough, those good

men and women who are sacrifying their own interests and happiness to

satisfy the debts of the parasites of our society and receiving nothing in

exchange. I’m calling to their common sense! They need to think by

themselves, and to see, that they’re acting just like a bunch of slaves who

faithfully obey their masters, to serve them.

Nothing is impossible if we strive

Ladies and gentlemen, it is a pleasure to welcome you to this talk about

sport.

I used to think that in this world there are many things that are impossible

until one day i listened to a speech by Arnold Schwarzenegger, and that

day I kept a lot of time thinking about this subject. Arnold said in his

speech that if you hear that no one can do a thing, you have to strive to do

it.

I think that only the people who do things that other humans have never

been able to, can enter in the history of humanity. And for this reason I

will do things that have never been done. And I invite you to do things

which you are going to be the first to do them.

I have been asked to do something by which I will be remembered. This is

the reason I keep doing sport and when I do it, I do it with all my energy. If

you do a lot of sport there is a problem, you don’t care where the limit of

your body is.

Of couse I’d like to thank you all for coming and making this opening

speech a success.

My speech at “the Oscars”

And the Oscar for best director goes to.... Alba Salmerón!

It’s a pleasure for me to be here, thank you very much. I’ve been waiting

for this day since I was a child and my father showed me the best films I’ve

ever watched. In my life I had never shone for doing anything, but when I

met the cinema, my world became amazing. The best moments were

when my father and I were on the sofa watching a film. That was the time

of my life and for this I will never forget when my career started. At home,

with my best teacher, my father.

It is an honour for me to be here tonight and I need to say many things

and thank all the people who have supported me in my life. For believing

in me and in my passion for this art. I believe in the cinema, I believe in

this art because in the beginning it was magic and for this reason, now, I’m

making films with the same passion as the first directors had.

Please, do things with love, with the same passion you would love your

lover. Do things with the heart because this is the best tool you’ll ever

own.

I’d like to thank the academics for giving me this wonderful opportunity

and all the people who has made it possible, thanks with all my love.

Alba Salmerón

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, partners...It’s a pleasure to be here

to pick up this prize for my research work.

As you all know, I’ve not done a very large and complicated work, but yet

an interesting and original research. When I started doing my work, I was

a bit worried because I couldn’t see the end of the research and I had a lot

of obstacles to continue the investigation. All of these problems were

solved with the help of my tutor, who I want to thank for all her patience.

It was an honour to have all her help throughout the process of working in

the summer.

I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the finalists of the

contest and to encourage all the students that have to do the research

work this year, to you just saying that it’s better than it seems, but you

have to be constant because all the work has a recompense. Finally, I’d

like to thank you all for coming to hear me.

Dídac’s speech at the Grammy’s 2013

It is an honour to receive this Grammy. First of all I wanna thank my

discoverer Simon Cowell because without him I wouldn’t be here.

It all started with a phone call. My discoverer called to tell me that he had

seen my videos singing in youtube and that he was interested in me and

my voice. A few days after that, I flew to Los Angeles and I met him. When

I arrived I did a test in a recording studio and from that moment my life

changed. We started writing, recording, making music videos, performing

live concerts, going to TV shows...

I remember it was like a dream come true. In fact, I’m still living that

dream. If you have a dream, fight hard to get it.

Thanks Simon, thanks parents, thank you fans. I love you all.

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s a pleasure to welcome you to my new

restaurant.

As you all know, since I was a child I’ve wanted to be a famous chef, I’ve

always beeb helping in the kitchen and I think this is the biggest

opportunity to make my dream come true.

It is an honour to have you here today. All of you have helped me a lot this

last year, which has been difficult for me, but finally I’ve done it and now,

as you can see I havem y own business.

I would like to thank you all for the support you have given me and I know

it will be wonderful to work by your side. Thank you so much.

It’s a pleasure to welcome you to explain my research about photo-

journalism during the Spanish Civil War. Someone told me that history

always comes back and repeats itself. I think it’s true, therefore my

research talks about it.

Photojournalism is a particular form of journalism that creates images in

order to tell a news story. But this modern photojournalism began in

Catalonia, specifically in Barcelona, thanks to Agustí Centelles and his

particular camera, Leica. Other names found in my research are Robert

Capa and Gerda Tono. In contrast to the normal vision we have of the Civil

War, and the wars in general, I wanted to talk about the women’s war,

how they lived that moment and how they were hit by society. And I

found this information in many books, one of them is Rojas:Las Mujeres

Republicanas en la Guerra Civil, and also Mujeres libres: España 1936-39,

both written by Mary Nash.

My research is divided into three main points. Women fighting in the war

(called “milicianes”), women behind the war, and women and politics.

These three points show the importance of women during the war, and

their influence on society.

Therefore, the world “war” is not only linked to men, but also to women.

And it is important to remember this, because as someone said, the

people who forget their history are doomed to repeat it.

Thanks for your attention and read many books in order to find the real

truth.

Good morning, I’m Javier González and I’m going to talk about Bankia and

the economic crisis and I’ll give you some advice to avoid being fooled.

From 1996 to 2007 in Aznar’s government, thanks to economic

development, the land was liberalised. Consequently, a lot of houses were

built until 2007 to especulate with them.

In 2007, the property crisis started. For this reason, the economy slowed

down. The government looked for hard solutions. Bankia was one of them.

Bankia was formed by a lot of broke banks. They persuaded people to

invest in them to solve their debt. That caused people to lose their money,

and a social crisis.

What could we do to prevent a similar situation? You should get informed

by professional people who are neutral in politics, without economic

interests. For example, it’s better a university professor than an economic

consultant. And finally, a soft answer turneth away wrath, but grievous

words stir up anger. Don`t spend money without verifying where it goes.

In conclusion, never lose your hope in spite of the bad situation. The

people who are responsible for this situation, will pay for it.

Javier González

Ladies and gentlemen, it is a pleasure to welcome you to the new primary

school. It is an honour to inaugurate this new school in Rosselló, especially

for one reason: we are undergoing a difficult moment for the education in

our country, and all of these events are an important victory for our

country and for us.

When I started to study in primary school, I was very shy and I tried to

make friends all the time. The primary school is an important step for all

children to develop the social life for the future. Nowadays, we are living a

bad economic and political situation. The Spanish state is cutting all the

public services to the people, and this is not correct. There are a lot of

families that have nothing or are all unemployed, people who had a fixed

employment, but in these days they have nothing.

As you all know, this is an inauguration of a state primary school, so we

have to remember all the children that cannot enjoy their childhood, all

the children who will be studying next year in these classroos, remember

that your family is fighting for you, for your future; remember all the

children that can’t study for their problems, remember that you will be

defining your future! Enjoy, play football, play with toys, make friends,

find your love! But, do not forget that these years will pass, your youngest

years will disappear and your memories will remain in your lives forever.

Don’t allow that some incompetent people affect your best years.

I’d like to wish you all luck for the future and health, and that your dreams

and promises come true. Thank you!
