Spelling Homework
Ms. Smith’s Explorers
Monday: Alphabetical Definitions
• The spelling words will be assigned on Mondays. You will write the words in your planners.
• On one piece of paper, you will write down the spelling words in alphabetical order and include the part of speech (noun, verb, adverb, pronoun, adjective) and definition.
• You MUST look up the definition! DO NOT make up your own definitions. Use a kid friendly reference such as a Children’s Dictionary.
Tuesday: Meaningful Sentences
• Sentences must make sense and you must use the word in its correct part of speech.
• Be sure to include enough context clues in your sentence so that the reader can determine the word meaning. • Example of a poor sentence: The boy was scared.
• Example of a meaningful sentence: The boy was scared of entering the old house because it was very spooky and dark.
Wednesday: Spelling Story
• This is a creative way to further demonstrate that you understand all of your words.
• The story must use all words in the correct context AND it must make sense. It can be fiction or non-fiction.
• You CANNOT use words explicitly (along with definition).
