Stories probably include legends .Once upon a time, long, long ago, before even your teachers were born, there lived some really great storytellers. Their stories have been passed down, retold, translated, adapted and, more recently, written down, because everyone loves a good story! Do some of your favourites include haunting , myths and folktales.

Q1 What are legends? A legend is usually based on a true event in the past. However, the story may have changed over time to take on some special 'mythical' features. Legends usually have a real hero at the centre of the story and they are often set in fantastic places.

What are myths?A myth is not quite the same as a legend. Sometimes a myth is loosely based on a real event but, more often than not, it is a story that has been created to teach people about something very important and meaningful.

Q2- What is the Great Sphinx? The Great Sphinx is a large human-headed lion that was carved from a mound of natural rock. It is located in Giza where it guards the front of Khafra's pyramid. The Great Sphinx is located at Giza, Egypt.Legends have been told for many years about the Great Sphinx. These stories tell about the powers and mysteries of this sphinx. Some people even believe that there are hidden passageways or rooms underneath the Great Sphinx, but nothing has been found yet.

Q3-HOW ARE THEY DIFFERENT FROM WRITTEN STORIES WITH AN ORAL TRADITION ?

The beginning of one story about the Great Sphinx is written on a stele between the sphinx's paws. The story reads that one day, a young prince fell asleep next to the Great Sphinx. He had been hunting all day, and was very tired. He dreamt that the Great Sphinx promised that he would become the ruler of Upper and Lower Egypt if he cleared away the sand covering its body (the Great Sphinx was covered up to its neck).

In the oral tradition of the Sphinx ,The Sphinx is about fifty thousand years old.

Q4- How do the traits of a legendary hero exemplify the values of the culture from which the legend originated?

The Sphinx wore a nemes as worn by the pharaohs.It was sculpted from a limestone monolith.The body of the Sphinx is in good condition but the head has bullet wounds and a missing nose.

Q5-In what ways do myths illustrate the belief system of the people at that time?

Some people believe that the Sphinx stands watch near his valley temple.If anybody does not answer its riddle it cuts the head of the person or strangulates it to death.It can also talk.

The Sphinx ‘s symbolism is to struggle and abundance ,power,wisdom,mysteries,,riddle,truth,unity and secrets.

Q7-MythologyEgyptian mythology is the collection of myths from ancient Egypt, which describe the actions of the Egyptian gods as a means of understanding the world. The beliefs that these myths are an important part of ancient Egyptian religion.

The mythology of Sphinx- The Great Sphinx faces due east ,in salutation

of the rising sun. The Great Sphinx was covered up in sand up to

its neck ,a millenium after it was built.

I have never seen mythology or any mythical thing.
