Portability

In the environmental response industry, location is chosen for us. Day Group provides remote location services that allow up to respond to spills as they occur. Whether on ice, water, rail or in the most remote location – our units will get there.

Hydro-Vac Service

A combination of high pressure water and powerful vacuum provides a safe alternative to conventional excavation.

Wet Lands Flushing

A wetland area contaminated with diesel fuel spill. Significant runoff combined with spring rains caused a wet land area to flood, pushing diesel fuel into the tree line and grass edges. An inspection of the area showed that the adjacent grasses and the duff layer were saturated with the product. As the water receded back to normal summer levels, pumps and hoses were installed and an extensive flushing program was started to mimic the spring runoff from the surrounding forest into the swamp. This process along with raking of the duff layer allowed for the diesel to flow back onto the water where it could be collected and removed. The wetland recovered with plants starting to re-establish within a few weeks.

Underflow Weir

An underflow weir was constructed across a pond using blasted rock and capped on to top edge with “A” gravel. The leading edge of the weir was then lined with a 15mil HDPE liner, with the liner being submerged one half the height of the weir. The weir allowed for water to pass freely through the structure while diesel became trapped against the liner and recovered at an adjacent collection point.

A History of Proven Commitment

Killarney Rock Truck in Channel Winter 2015

• Rock truck submerged in 5 m of water • Contained using marine and absorbent boom • Coordinated with federal agencies to ensure safe shipping through the

channel continued • Shoreline and private docking facilites were flushed of contaminants • Response efforts were led primarily from the water

Gogama Train Derailment Winter 2015

• Crude oil into river • Contained using marine booms along right • Vac trucks, mobile vac units on off-road equipment and absorbent pads

and booms were used to collect oil • Oil trapped in ice was located and removed • Boats were used to maintain and monitor the river on a daily basis in

warmer temperatures

Gogama Train Derailment Winter 2015

• Crude oil into swamp • Contained using marine and absorbent booms • Underflow weir built to allow flow of water and not product • Affected water was treated through mobile treatment units

Montreal River Train Derailment Fall 2014

• Diesel into swamp • Spill contained using marine and absorbent booms • Vac units and absorbents used to collect product • Cold temperatures trapped diesel in ice, clean up put on hold with weekly

visits to monitor conditions • Spring 2015 – clean up continued with soil excavation and vac units as the

ice thawed

A History of Proven Commitment

Nairn Centre Train Derailment Spring 2014

• Oil and diesel into water system • Contained using marine and absorbent boom • Rail system rebuilt, contaminated material excavated • Vac units and absorbent material used to pick up majority of

contaminants • Weekly inspections to maintain absorbents and monitor conditions

400 L Diesel Provincial Park Interpretive Centre Summer 2013

• Provincial park interpretive centre • Impacted walkways and parking area • Adjacent threatened hibernaculum snake protected • Spill contained, area excavated - material sent for treatment • Area rebuilt to park’s standard

300 L Diesel Summer 2013 Highway accident

• Contained using absorbent boom • Traffic Control set in place • Contaminated soil excavated and sent for treatment • Backfilled and restored to pre-accident state

40 tonnes Copper Concentrate Summer 2012

• Concentrate excavated and loaded for haulage • Vacuum unit used to remove concentrate from surrounding foliage

50 000 L Sewage Sludge Spring 2011

• Tanker truck rollover, main artery of the city shut down • Accumulating methane gas required the tanker to be hot tapped and emptied prior to uprighting • Sludge pumped from damaged unit to new tanker
