What is a spine label?
Spine labels are the white stickers on spine of every library item. They indicate the location of the item—where it lives when it is not checked out.
These labels serve as physical location markers and are used in shelving, checking in, and locating library materials.

The use of spine labels
Each spine label corresponds to an area of the library (see Tobin Library Floorplan).
Within these areas, items are placed in alphabetical or numerical order based on the spine label.
Tobin Library houses over 70,000 items, so it is vital that each item is put in the correct location.
