Morene Barker-Morris is currently writing a book on current and important issues from a spiritual perspective. She became an ordained minister at OneSpirit Interfaith Seminary in 2011. She was licensed a Religious Science practitioner in 2005 at Creative Life, where she serves as a practitioner frequently on Sundays, and also teaches the QuickStart Course. She served as an enthusiastic and devoted spiritual leader at the Center for Spiritual Living in Houston and also func- tioned as a practitioner at that center for six years. All the work involved was simply dedicated service to God and the community. Any time an opportunity arises to share her love for God with anyone, she is always ea- ger and willingly to do so. Morene’s love of God started as a little girl while attending the Church of the Nazarene with her paternal grandmother in Barbados, where she spent 21 years of her life participating in every aspect and level of her ministry. Over those years she developed a very close relation with God. Morene always yearned to know what and where God really was. Due to this determination she believes God took her to three countries, and revealed the various aspects of Its nature to her. In Barbados God revealed the Omnipres- ent/physical aspect of Self, man and the world. Then was revealed the Omniscient/ Scientific part of God, man and the universe, while she studied nursing in Winchester, England. The Omnipotent/spiritual aspect of God, man and the universe’s nature, was revealed while studying at the Center for Spiritual Living in Houston. Rev.Rev.Rev. MoreneMoreneMorene to speakto speakto speak Rev. Morene Barker-Morris is currently writing a book on current and important issues from a spiritual perspective. She became an ordained minister at OneSpirit Interfaith Seminary in 2011. She was licensed a Religious Science

miniminimini---workshopworkshopworkshop Here’s a short, free workshop with founding minister Jesse Jennings that’s especially for those new to CLC and/or

to what we teach, and a prerequisite for anyone wishing to become a member who has not yet completed Heartfelt Living. We’ll discuss the basics of our phi-losophy and way of life, but also how the Center came to be, and how it’s cared for and supported; our classes and programs; and what member-ship means. There will be plenty of time for questions plus you’ll get printed materials to take home. SUNDAY, JUNE 7, 1:00-2:30PM. Please sign up in advance in Builders’ Hall or by e-mail to [email protected]@[email protected].

Sunday morning

MediMediMeditatatationstionstions

“...Sit and rest and refresh your soul. Eat of the fruit and drink the wine.

All, all is yours, and you are welcome.” —The Science of Mind text

The Sunday morning meditation is actually an awesome extra to Sun-day celebrations. Led by practitioner Malené Njeri or others (see below), it’s 35 minutes, ending in time to com-fortably get into the

11am celebration. There is music to enhance as you are guided into a restful state, and inspirational read-ings to tap into your spiritual center. Don’t be concerned about being late. Stand a moment outside the door and bring yourself to complete silence. Maintain that silence as you enter. You’ll find yourself suddenly present in the meditation and all is well. SUNDAYS 10:15-10:50AM, upstairs in the Learning Center. Leaders:

Cross two famous guys named Brooks — Garth and Mel — and you get Austin folksinger Steve Brooks. His Garth side co-wrote the Slaid Cleaves classic “One Good Year,” as well as songs recorded by more than a dozen Americana artists, like Albert & Gage, The Flyin’ As, Danny Santos and Oscar™-winning actor Russell Crowe. His Mel side wrote a satirical song-a-week for Jim

Hightower’s nationally-syndicated radio show. “All writing is storytelling,” says Steve, and he tells stories with words as well as music. He’s a freelance journalist whose work has appeared in dozens of newspapers and magazines. He’s a lay speaker at Unitarian Universalist churches, whose sermons explore the spiritual sides of every-thing from songwriting to his dog. When he’s not working with words, he plays with them. He appeared in 2001 on TV’s “I’ve Got a Secret” as six-time World Pun Champion, and he still emcees Austin’s O.Henry Pun-Off. His own story is full of twists, turns and O.Henry endings. Born in Chicago and raised in York, Pennsylvania, he picked up guitar at age 16 by playing along with a Pete Seeger record. A week before high school graduation, he spent his life’s savings on a Martin D-35 that’s still his musical sidekick. A week after, he packed himself off to California to study philosophy and punch cows at Deep Springs College, two valleys west of Death Valley. The high desert, together with thousands of miles of exploring America by thumb, awakened his love for the West. After college, he headed back East, just in time for a nearby nuclear power plant to go haywire at Three Mile Island. On the first anniversary of the acci-dent, he found himself onstage with Seeger, singing some original verses to “This Land is Your Land.” After blockading the plant, and being convicted as one of the “TMI Nine,” he made his way from activism into journalism, as a reporter for the New Orleans Times-Picayune. But the twin sirens of songwriting and open spaces called him to Texas. He quit his day job in 1990 and headed for Austin, where he honed his craft performing at legendary clubs like Chicago House and the Austin Outhouse. Since then, his musical output has included seven CDs. He’s had music in two films and appeared in two more, including the 2004 release Barbecue: A Texas Love Story. More than 70 Americana stations have spun his latest album, Chasing Grace, produced by Chris Gage. If there’s a common thread to Steve’s writing, it’s that we can change the world when we look at it from a different angle — or from several angles at once. As Steve puts it — a bit more poetically — “A single new star rearranges a whole constellation.” Steve brings his musical chops and clever wit to the Center during both services SUNDAY, JUNE 14!

Guest speaker

Ahmard VitalAhmard VitalAhmard Vital Ahmard Vital is a sports media analyst who evolved into a keynote motivational speaker and author. After nearly a decade of studying the success habits of high-achieving athletes, he

developed principles that are shared in his keynotes for athletic organizations and companies across the country. With his core concept of “Awaken to Your Dreams,” Ahmard highlights the strategies used when he researched blue-chip level athletes’ mental attitudes, which is documented in his book Awaken the Baller Within. Dream building, goal setting and a relentless belief are the tools by which Ahmard equips individuals to become great in their chosen professions. He is making his way back to Creative Life for his third appearance. You don’t want to miss this as he will be releasing his latest keynote, “Wake Up, Winner.” Join in the experience from one of the country’s up-and-coming minds in the world of personal development, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24, at 7PM.

“Things which seem miraculous to you have a perfectly natural cause; if they seem

extraordinary, it is only because the cause escapes you.”

“When the will and the imagination are in conflict, it is always the imagination

which wins.” —Emile Coué

French pharmacist Emile Coué made a giant step in personal change when he discovered positive affirmations in the 1870s. Dr. Coué taught

each of his patients to say: “Every day, in every way, I’m feeling better and better.” This ground-breaking method helped his patients recover five times faster than others; and he went on to write Self-Mastery through Conscious Autosuggestion. You too can experience self-mastery and success by discovering and applying his transformational techniques of auto-suggestion and positive self-talk. Minister Arthur Johnson presents a four-week Mind Power Session, MONDAYS, 7:00-8:30PM, starting JUNE 1. All are welcome; cost is $60. Please sign up in Builders’ Hall. For more information:

Your Life Your Life Your Life “[The Bible] outlines diagrams for living so that you can take the necessary steps to make your life worthwhile and interesting. This biography of you is called the Bible, and, whether you realize it or not, you are on every page from Genesis to Revelation.” —Emmet Fox

These writings by Emmet Fox unveil hidden meanings that mystics have known for centuries. If you are not familiar with this teaching then you might be pleasantly surprised. We will explore some well-known Bible stories and learn their symbolic meanings and how these truths can help you in your everyday life. Join us as we contemplate the idea that the Seven Days of Creation and the treatment process used in Science of Mind are basically the same. Discover the hidden symbols behind people and places that open up new levels of awareness within you. Become aware of the spiritual meaning of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden. Learn the symbolic meaning of “our daily bread.” We will find that the esoteric knowledge contained within the Bible confirms our Science of Mind teaching. This book study, created and led by CLCer John Hickman, runs SATURDAYS through JUNE 27 (no class on JUNE 20), 10AM-12PM, in the Quimby Room, on the first floor of the Learn-ing Center. Cost is $15 per week, and you’ll need the books Alter Your Life and Diagrams For Living, by Emmet Fox, available here. A free workbook will be provided. For more informa-tion:

The CLC Children’s and Youth Services Department is devoted to celebrating the spiritual development of each child we teach. All age groups are involved in various activities, workshops, and special projects incorporating the teachings of Science of Mind. We strive to create an atmosphere of love and kindness in our words and actions toward each other and to recognize and honor the diversity of every person.

On Sunday, May 17, our beloved Spencer Cole Mitas grew his angel wings and made his transition. He was born in Berkeley, Calif., on January 31, 2001. He

was fourteen. In his short time with us his sparkle and zest for life was contagious — a pinnacle of hope and optimism. He was the “trendsetter” — whatever his latest obsession, he wanted to be the best at it. Paintball was his passion, and making movies and flying copters gave him joy of late. Spencer leaves his heartbroken parents, Tom and Julia Mitas, younger brother Parker, best friend Lucas, as well as his uncles Eric Ward and Andy Mitas; aunts Lisa W. Schoeffler and Marsha Dood; grandpa Eric Ward; grandma Helen Mitas; and lots of cousins, friends, relatives, teachers, and Instagram followers. His celebration of life will take place on FRIDAY, JUNE 5 at 5PM, at Legends Paintball, 11099 Ponderosa Timbers Drive, Conroe, Texas 77385.

Exciting access to the Creative Life teaching has launched online at creativelife.org/sundaytalks.htmlcreativelife.org/sundaytalks.htmlcreativelife.org/sundaytalks.html, where you can find archived Sunday messages from 2012 forward. A CLC Sunday encouragement is now as close as your computer, smartphone, or tablet, anytime you like. You can also easily share these talk links via social media or email. The archived sound files contain the Sunday talks only, more or less 40 minutes’ worth. They’re sorted by month and year and accompanied by thumbnails of each month’s series graphic. New talks will added quarterly. And just like at a CLC Sunday in the Great Hall, the talks are free and donations are encouraged to support our presence and our outreach.
