Workshop A Workshop B Workshop C Workshop D Impressive Parenting - Pastor Roger and Joanne ThompsonThis will be a deep look at using the normal momentum of life to convey life’s deepest truths to our children, guided by Deuteronomy 6:6-7. Do you grow weary of always trying to come up with special activities and age-appropriate outings for your kids? Though these are good in some measure, “Impressive Parenting” is about inviting your kids into your life and into the real world and teaching them from the events and challenges that simply happen. The world and lifestyle of adults is a universe of fascination and training for our children.
Spiritual Goals for Your Children - Pastor Paul EmanuelsonWhile many families strive for spiritual growth in the lives of their children, rarely do they talk specifically about spiritual goals they have for them. This workshop pulls together helpful topics for parents in discussing and selecting spiritual goals for their kids. Items discussed will include: the importance of goals, individualized goals, and hindrances to setting these goals.
Practical Skills for Raising Resilient Teens in a Secular World - John BricknerThis will be a fast-paced seminar with a smorgasbord of essential skills necessary for building a resilient family. We are all imperfect families with a difficult job. In this seminar, we will concentrate on skills that promote encouragement, communication, responsibilty, and forgiveness. John has been a middle school counselor and parent educator for 26 years, and has raised two young adults of his own.
Spiritually Impacting Your Preschooler - Martha ZappeThe health of our preschoolers is of the utmost importance - physical, intellectual, and emotional. What can parents do to plant seeds for preschoolers’ eternal spiritual health? Learn practical ways to spiritually impact your child for their eternal good. Taught by local speaker, Martha Zappe, who has been assisting families in the spiritual training of their preschoolers for 9 years with Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) International.
Raising Digital Natives: A Few Lessons for Digital immigrants - Dr. Ripley SmithNew technologies like texting, Facebook, and online-gaming are impacting every aspect of our lives. What effects are they having on our kids and our faith? This will be an interactive seminar to help explain the benefits and challenges of raising children in a technology-saturated culture. Dr. Smith is a Professor of Media Communication at Bethel University.
Goals of Misbehavior - Brian HoutsDid you know your feelings that surface during conflict (irritation, anger, hurt) can help you to make better parenting decisions when your child misbehaves? Explore everyday challenges you face with your kids, learn to identify the goals of your child’s misbehavior, and develop a strategy to work through the conflict which affirms both you and your child.
Preparing for Adolescence - Heather Flies Is adolescence something to be feared or celebrated?
What are the changes my child and I will go through as they
become a teenager? This workshop is designed to help
parents of adolescents and pre-adolescents grow in their
understanding of becoming a teen in today’s world, and
help them adjust their parenting as their children develop.
Research shows that parents do not regularly talk with
their teens about issues of faith. Come and learn about the
five conversations that every Christian parent must have
with their teen. You will never guess what they are!
Growing Connected Families
(Part 1 & 2) - James and Lynne JacksonThe powerful Connected Family principles bring the
love of Christ alive in the nitty gritty of everyday life!
You can become a proactive, insightful parent,
despite today’s frantic pace and confusing culture.
In Part One, explore how your “Foundation” (What’s
going on inside of me?) and your “Connection”
(Communicating love no matter what) impact
everything you do as a parent.
In Part Two, you’ll focus on proactively taking action
to mentor faith, character, and skills and also learn to
correct with grace and a long term view.
