intended useThe plate heat exchanger may be used only for the intended purpose.

This means:

- for passive cooling with groundwater heat source in conjunction with brine/water heat pumps.

Operating principle of plate heat exchangers

profiled plates strung together with flow openings form a stack of flow gaps (flow passages) in the plate heat exchanger. These are flowed through from both sides by the flow media involved in the heat exchange.

requirements on the heat source side

Water temperature / Water quantity

The water in the extraction well of the heat source sys-tem must have a minimum temperature of 7 °c all year round and may not exceed a temperature of 25°c. de-pending on the heat output required or its cooling ca-pacity as a relevant variable for dimensioning the heat source, a minimum water rate is required, which must be provided by the heat source as a continuous output. before installing the water/water heat pump, a pump test should/must be carried out for at least 12 hours with verification of a quasi-constantly lowered water table (persistence) to provide information about the quanti-ty of water available. for efficient operation of the wells, during the initial start-up the nominal volume flow must be adjusted on the heat source side. Any appropriate components, which enable balancing, are to be installed in the pipe network here. The material of the compo-nents used must be chosen according to the water qual-ity. The necessary volume flow (heat source water rate) must satisfy the heat pump’s requirements.

“Technical data/scope of delivery” overview in the operating manual of your heat pump.

Water quality

In germany the well must be designed and built to dIN 4021 and vdI 4640 (in other countries according to the corresponding regulations). Wells may only be drilled and built by drilling companies with a permit in ac-cordance with dvgW W120. The water quality of the heat source is defined as normal groundwater. Ensure that the suction and return pipe always extends below the water level by sufficient depth, to ensure that oxy-gen is not added to the water (risk of iron oxide depo-sits). please discuss the problem of iron oxide deposits with your well builder. during the planning the quality of the groundwater should be checked in advance as well as possible (e.g. by asking the competent water autho-rity or searching for data on existing adjacent wells) and subsequently verified by water analysis in the built pro-duction well. The following table helps to assess the wa-ter quality.

Important A water analysis and pump test must be carried

out before installing the water/water heat pump. please send the results of the analysis and test

directly to the manufacturer for checking and coordination.

notICe: Water analyses are prepared by wa-

ter test laboratories. Initial informa-tion about possible use of groundwater is available from your local water management authority. A pump test provides information as to whether a sufficient quantity / rate of water is available to cover the requirements for the hea-ting output of your unit. The minimum ground-water volume flow must at least be available as a continuous output.

“Technical data/Scope of delivery” overview, “heat source volume flow” section in the operating manual of your heat pump

evaluation of the Water analysis

Water constituents - minimum requirement. The water should be analysed in advance for the test values listed below (table). An important criterion for taking water samples is the dvgW Standard, Technical Notices, leaf-let W 112 and use of the Technical Regulations listed in it (dIN, EN and ISo standards).

Water constituents minimum requirementpH value > 6,8Iron content < 0,2 mg / lManganese content < 0,1 mg / lChloride content < 300 mg / lFree chlorine content < 3 mg / lTurbidity none

Technical freedom from sand < 0.1 mg / l sand per 10 l pumped water

Important If a value does not conform to the limit value li-

sted in the table, heat exchangers may not be used. Use of the unit with surface water, waste-water, industrial wastewater or mixtures of wa-ter and alkali solutions, acids or chlorine is not allowed.

A vertical installed position of the heat exchanger is the most effective for heating systems. All other installation positions can cause output losses.

vertical installed position

CautIon. Never install the heat exchanger with the con-

nections facing downwards.

fix the heat exchanger onto a wall-mounting bracket. A holder on the connections is not sufficiently strong.

Wt 4 – Wt 11

To avoid damage during transport, you should transport the plate heat exchanger (secured on the wooden pallet) to its final installation location using a lifting truck.

CautIon! Wear safety gloves.

CautIon! only transport the plate heat exchanger with

the lift truck if it is on the wooden pallet and is securely anchored onto the pallet. Never po-sition the lift truck directly under the stack of plates to lift the plate heat exchanger.

WarnIng! Several people are required to transport

the unit. Do not underestimate the weight of the plate heat exchanger.

“Technical data, weight” overview

Important Never lift the plate heat exchanger by the clam-

ping bolts or at the connections.

WarnIng! ensure that the lifting tools are

adequately dimensioned and are designed for the weight of the plate heat exchanger. ensure that the lifting tools cannot become detached or slip off. ensure that no swinging movements develop during lifting.

proceed as follows:

Remove the transport straps from the plate heat exchanger and from the wooden pallet…

place a sling around the bottom and top clamping nuts on each side of the plate heat exchanger…

Important only use slings. Never use chains or steel ropes

or cables.

If the bottom clamping nuts are not accessible for positioning the round slings, use an additional sling to slightly tilt the plate heat exchanger first. Always position this additional sling between the two clamping nuts…

Then lift the plate heat exchanger slightly and place a sling around the now accessible bottom clamping nuts. Then around the top clamping nuts too…

CautIon! ensure that the slings are securely in

place.

ensure that the connection sockets are not exposed to any tensile loads and do not support any loads.

Slowly lift the plate heat exchanger from the pallet above its centre of gravity. At the same time, check that the slings are correctly positioned and ensure that the sling remains tightly slung around the top and bottom clamping nuts during lifting and cannot slip…

Remove the slings and other transport equipment from the plate heat exchanger…

WarnIng! plate heat exchangers can tilt over with

relatively little effort.

Securely anchor the plate heat exchanger into the ground where it is installed.

dispose of the transport and packaging materials properly and under ecological aspects.

connection to the pipe system

dirt and deposits which get into the heat exchanger from the pipe network can cause corrosion in the heat exchanger (and in some applications can cause the heat exchanger to freeze up).

Therefore, thoroughly rinse the pipes before connecting the heat exchanger to the pipe system.

Install dirt filters at the connections of the heat exchanger to prevent dirt from getting into the heat exchanger.

lay the pipes so that vibrations, stresses and impacts or pulsations do not impinge on the heat exchanger.

connect the pipes to the heat exchanger at the threaded connections on the heat exchanger.

notICe connect the heat exchanger to the pipe system

so that the primary and secondary medium flow through the heat exchanger in opposite direc-tions.

cleaningIf, due to the water quality (for example, high hardness or heavy soiling) a deposit is expected to form, clean the exchanger at regular intervals by rinsing it.

Use a suitable cleaning solution and rinse the heat exchanger in the direction opposite to the normal direction of flow.

Important If you use chemicals to clean the heat exchanger,

ensure that it is not incompatible with stainless steel, copper or nickel, as incompatible chemi-cals irreparably damage the heat exchanger.
